@ColleenV right, that is understandable. But we often find examples like this - "what he was doing all day was watching tv". etc. Here tge matching occurred without any problem. In our case I know that"kill" is much more common. But my question whether "killing" there is plain wrong.

Moreover if we reverse the order we get:

"Killing sb is the first thing I am going to do."

Now that is fine.

We can say - "what he was doing all day was watching tv"

But here we can't say "the first thing I am going to do is killing somebody".

Here matching of verb is no applicable.

Moreover it is correct to say - "killing somebody is the first thing I am going to do".

Reversal of order is fine.

So it is a bit confusing.

I found this paper in (the?) Lancet:

So "quality control" might be acceptable.

Is the use of "for long" to mean "for a long time " restricted to only negative sentences and questions ? Example He couldn't tolerate it for long. Did he tolerate it for long ? Can I say he tolerated it for long?
