My eye has been red for several days. Now I discovered that an eyelash grows too close to the cornea and now and then bends over and gets between the eyelid and the eye
Ouch.

This isn't exactly what snaiplane asked, and we'd talk about luck or lucky/attenuating circumstances.

We do have the opposite, more idiomatic saying: "k'o za vraga" ("as for the devil", "just like the devil would want it"), which is a remnant of a longer saying.
Which means that there were certain circumstances present which only made the situation worse.
