hi
I came across a user whose username was grey and I could't click on their name, why? Does it mean I didn't have enough privilege to view their profile?

Q: Will this question put "on hold" as proof-reading?

user33250I am going to post this question here: My Question: What is the proper way to describe this sentence? King ordered Mary to work in Court, but she doesn't like it because she thinks by this way king will meet her always & she also thinks king will seperate her & husband. Mary think...

hi
@kitty Don't take this at face value, but I think it means their user account or network account isn't associated with the ELL community, which can mean two things: either it's been dissociated (a person doesn't want to be recognized as the author of their posts, comments, etc., so they request that their account be unlinked from that community entirely), or it still hasn't been associated, meaning the question (together with everything else) has been migrated from EL&U.

While I feel extremely bad for the woman and her family for her death, I hope, unlike what would happen most other places, the authorities point to the LARGE signs warning of the danger, including the possibility of death, and get on with getting on. — CGCampbell yesterday

> Results of the Repeatability study for the reference solution, obtained by Analyst 1.
Can I use the comma thus in order to make it clear that the results were obtained by Analyst 1 and not the solution?

Cytopathic effect or cytopathogenic effect (abbreviated CPE) refers to structural changes in host cells that are caused by viral invasion. The infecting virus causes lysis of the host cell or when the cell dies without lysis due to an inability to reproduce. Both of these effects occur due to CPEs. If a virus causes these morphological changes in the host cell, it is said to be cytopathogenic. Common examples of CPE include rounding of the infected cell, fusion with adjacent cells to form syncytia, and the appearance of nuclear or cytoplasmic inclusion bodies. CPEs and other changes in cell...
Let's say I have a test in which the CPE score is determined with discontinous values: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
How do I call them? Units?
> The CPE score of the reference solution should not exceed 1 point (unit?).

ell.stackexchange.com/questions/136446/… "the size of it is so big that" – is this sentence fragment idiomatic? Do you normally say that the size of something is big/small? I'd just say that something is big, or big in size.
Anonymous
@userr2684291 It sounds okay-ish, but I think most people would say that it's big rather than saying its size is big.
Anonymous
Also, when I read the original sentence, the size of it sounds a bit more awkward. I expect its size.
Anonymous
With just the string you quoted here, the size of it didn't sound as bad.
@snailplane Yeah, I think they picked up the phrase "the size of it" from somewhere and then violently shoved it into that sentence.
But thank you, I wasn't sure if I was imagining things.
ell.stackexchange.com/q/136443/3395 @snailplane Can Had you done that,... be used for non-counterfactual past conditions? I don't think I've heard it used that way, but still.

A: Should I close a question because the answer is "typo"?

M.A.R.I have seen previous questions based on typos getting closed. Here's the proof. I'm personally for closing them, since they won't benefit anyone else. the answer would shift from being based on expertise in linguistics/terminology/whatever to being based on . . . whatever. they're not about E...

This is our current meta discussion on typo questions.

I think that since there doesn't seem to be much dissent on the meta discussion, I'm going to go ahead and close this outright.
