@snailplane Thank you!
I recalled that we do use a different vowel order in tactic
But that's a single word

What's the differences between "kindness" and "generosity"?
05:31
@yubraj I can be kind towards my nephew but refuse to buy him an ice-cream, because it's not healthy.
Thus, I would be not generous towards him.

Turns out it was not a false alarm. I was infected with tick-borne encephalitis, and the vaccinations that I underwent in 2014 and 2015 saved me.
I've just received the latest blood test results.

@CowperKettle Oh my goodness - I'm so glad you had the vaccinations. I hope you recover quickly.
@ColleenV I'm very glad too! I'm practically healthy now.
I asked today "what if I had not been vaccinated?" She answered: "let's not talk about such sad things". (0:
In my intensive care unit, the nurse told me that they had a 35 y.o. guy who was bitten by a tick. He spent 3 months in the unit. At the end of the 3 months he started talking, and they transferred him to Neurology.
So my 4 days in the unit was just a walk in the park. (0:

A: Gerund Phrases after adjectives

Man_From_India It's difficult being an architect. Here, being an architect is a Gerund-Participle clause. The subject of the sentence is it, and being an architect is an Extraposed Subject. being an architect is not a phrase, it's a clause. It has it's own verb, object and an implicit subject.

Is anything wrong with this answer?

@CowperKettle Why does that matter, though?

@userr2684291 What?
Hello everyone !!
Evening!
Is there any difference between check and check on
Most likely, yes
> to look at someone or something in order to make sure that they are safe, correct, etc.:
"You will need to check on your new employees' qualifications."
You can't write check in place of check on here
The meaning would not be the same
@CowperKettle: thanks a lot :-)

you're welcome!
easy peasy, lemon squeezy

A: adjective + conjunction + gerund

Man_From_India The story is neatly complex yet entertaining. The word - yet - as used in this sentence is an adverb, the function of it is Connective Adjunct. Like a coordinator, it can connect two Adjective Phrase (AdjP) - complex and entertaining. The meaning it bears is something like this though it's...

@CowperKettle Oh? How?
Since last November this was unanswered. Not any helpful comment either.
@Catija Ah. So it would be the same?
> "You will need to check your new employees' qualifications."
Maybe I was wrong
@CowperKettle : so if I have to say i have to check on the status on an order or i have to check on the status on an order
16:54
I'm confused.
Yes... I think. There may be some slight differences but I think, in general, they're the same. In that example... I'm trying to think of a case where there might be a difference.
@EngFan I have to check the status of an order or I have to check on the status of an order. Are largely the same.
> A naughty guy yet making people happy.
is it really correct.

Q: What is the difference between "check something" and "check on something"

DaveFor example if in answer to the question, "what time does the shop close?" a tourist information officer might say, "I'll check on that for you." Why wouldn't they say, "I'll check that for you."?

@Catija : thanks!

ell.meta.stackexchange.com/q/2468 Why does the inquirer first ask "Which sorts of math questions are on-topic?" and then "What sorts..."?
Anonymous
@Man_From_India Well, it's not a sentence.

It's kind of weird as a phrase, maybe because of coordination of unlikes. It's a coordination of two phrases which would presumably be complements of be, but they force you to construe be two different ways.
copular "is" and "is making"

What's the meaning of "being on the cut"? I saw this expression in the name of a song by Eric B. and Rakim which is "Eric B. is on the cut".

@userr2684291 The words 'what' and 'which' can be interchanged in that context without much difference at all in meaning. I didn't notice it until you pointed it out. English is hard...
