Q: Answer deleted?

RonJohnI posted a short -- but not too short -- answer to Narrow streets behind houses but it almost instantly disappeared. Can you tell me why?

Can anyone tell me (or give me a relevant link to a meta post) if I should politely ask a member that they "accept" an answer to their question? This user has accepted only 1 answer to his last 40 questions. These questions have at least one answer each. Around 40 people have made an effort to help this person by answering their question, but they don't seem to appreciate it.

@AIQ This discussion is a good starting point - it has a number of linked discussions : ell.meta.stackexchange.com/q/3088/9161
@AIQ The linked discussions might be more helpful than that actual discussion

@user9161 Thanks for the links, it appears that "encouraging to accept answers" is discouraged. I will abide by the rule. But the issue still remains. A user has asked 40 questions, and accepted only 1 answer. There are a few others like that in ELL. This is sad.

@AIQ If you see a problem, it’s OK to help a user learn how the site works. You might link to a section of the help center, or maybe the “how can a learner pick the right answer” post on meta. What’s discouraged is encouraging them to accept your answer. You could always raise a flag for the mod team. We can contact users privately.
Often when users get a reputation for not accepting answers, people are less enthusiastic about answering their questions
