Olympiad is not perfect, but it's as close to real science as it gets.

Chemistry, like English, is taught very badly all over the world.

The students studies octet, then sees IF7 and thinks . . . doesn't think.

If the student wants to pass Konkur, they have to lack a curious mind.

They have to unthink things.

They have to stop being creative.

Look, @Card. I'm 'taught' octet at school. Am I allowed to ask further questions about it? Am I allowed to think further about it? Am I allowed to wonder why it doesn't work in XeF4's case? Am I allowed to even wonder why XeF4 exists when I'm taught that noble gases don't form compounds?

Well, of course I'm allowed, but then I'd just be a poor helpless frustrated learner that doesn't know what to do with what he's taught.
