I wrote this thing;
"I woke up as any other usual day, but my spirit was high. After a
long period of non-stop, vigorous working, I finally could relax, as
it was a/the day of rest."
I strongly feel that "the" can be used in that sentence, as it is a reason, a very definite reason that ...
@DEAD I think we have this resposibility to intruduce telegram to our friends. What do you think? Ell Group, you would be the admin, that would be great. However, our true identities will be disclosed
@whitedevil I like "a day of test" more. "the day of rest" gives me a feeling like it has been a special day of rest not like all other days one has no work to do and is free to rest.
Because we have many day to rest, I think it's more proper to use "a". To imply it's one of thoes days.
I mean a day like all other days of rest.
But let me read your sentence again.
"I woke up as any other usual days, but my spirit was high. After a long period of non-stop, vigorous working, I finally could relax, as it was a/the day of rest."
@whitedevil I would say "as it was my day of rest" if I want to be specific.
Grammatically there is nothing wrong with using "the" here. It's just a stylistic preference, IMO.
Just watched a rerun of The Dark Knight. Lots of powerful lines in there.
> Because he's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian. A watchful protector. A Dark Knight.
I wonder how many times Nolan read Nietzsche's.
@Avicenna it was a day of rest makes me sense to me. (I haven't read the comments yet.)
Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster... for when you gaze long into the abyss. The abyss gazes also into you. -- Friedrich Nietzsche
I used to read Niche many long times ago. It is not very pleasant to recall those days, but they are a part of me. If you don't get Niche's intents the result would be devastating !
If you like to know more about him, I suggest that you read this book:
> American scientists pose for Life magazine on October 10, 1957, alongside satellite orbit equations drawn up by astronomer Samuel Herrick. The photo was taken just six days after the Soviet Union had launched Sputnik 1- the world’s first human-made satellite and a win in the earliest round of the space race. NASA was created the following October, and within months, the United States was also in orbit: On January 31, 1958, NASA launched the Explorer 1 satellite from Cape Canaveral, Florida.
