How do you pronounce your name @DamkerngT.
Hmm... maybe I need special IPA letters!
/dæmkerŋ ti/
Is it?
More like /dɑmkɤŋ/.
T. is the initial letter of my last name.
What is that sound after /k/
It's a Thai vowel.
13:05
No English equivalent?
A bit like a schwa. If you pronounce a schwa, but make it a very bright sound, you'll get something very close.
@Avicenna Not quite. "er" or "uh" is close enough, generally.
I see.
دامکرنگ تی = DamkerngT.
This is your screen name in Persian.
Thank you!
@Avicenna The problem with Persian is that there's no way to indicate /ɑ/.
You're welcome. :-)

Hehe!
We have the election. It's the best time. I can give you some @DamkerngT.. You helped me to find out about my talent after all.
Glad to hear that!
@Avi here's how good at foretelling I am. ELL's mod election will end in 13 days.
Vote for DEAD! Vote for DEAD!
(I wonder if your name will confuse people. :-)
13:16
@DEAD Oh, accually I should admit you're one of my best students!
@DamkerngT. I keep thinking that to myself in a rate of once per second.
Nice chatting guys! Gotta go! See you!
Have a nice evening!

@DamkerngT. My exam is yet to take place. But it will be around soon. In a month probably. It's preparation time for me. But time is very very short :(
Oh, I see. I thought it was today!
Ganbattene! がんばってね! (Do your best!)
Thank you. My problem is I forgot most of my electronic lessons in college. They all are needed.
Interesting!
BTW, we have a Sam problem, too! ell.stackexchange.com/questions/96717/…
Evening!

> On the last cultivation day, batch 815 demonstrated the worst viability, while for the rest of the batches viability was in the range 99-100%. (Do I need "OF" after "range"?)
Probably not. Hmm...
I guess it's correct either way.
14:27
Nice! Thanks!
Sure! Don't forget to get another opinion!
@DEAD Make chemicals dead again!

I regret one of my upvotes today. -- sad

> Over the period under report, no changes were made in the specification Z023-KK-12 Anticancermab, solution for injection. (Should there be "the" there?)
On the one hand, the specification has a code, so no "the"
On the other, it has a name.
DEAD has left the building.
I guess it should be there.
@CowperKettle Probably not absolutely mandatory, but I think if it's in a rather serious piece of writing, I'll keep the.
Ba-bye, DEAD!

Q: Why is there an apostrophe after years

Ivanka TodorovaI'm reading an wikipedia article: (...) was sentenced to five years' probation and one year in the House of Correction (...) Why five years' has an apostrophe? What does that sentence mean?

The first answerer clearly is taking "possessive" too literally

A: Why is there an apostrophe after years

EllieKOne assumes the apostrophe incorrectly identifies "years" as plural possessive. The phrase "five years probation" is short for "five years [of] probation". The author could have avoided the mistake by including the omitted word "of". This is a tricky situation where you may have to consider th...

possessive = a specialized genitive
I don't quite understand his logic, either. He's fine with the week's rain, but not five years' probation.
In any case, this is actually logically worse: five years probation. It's akin to writing a ten years old boy.
I would say ten-year-old boy
nods
I guess five-year probation would be possible, but I haven't checked.

"Can a year possess probation? Do years get more or less probationary as time goes by? What is the most probationary year in recent memory? How much probation does the average year possess? These questions are all nonsensical because years cannot possess probation. I can say, "In a year's time," or "The years' slow progression." But "years' probation" makes no sense."

Ironically this makes no sense.
reductio ad absurdum
