9:00 PM
Speaking of which, I have to shuffle off this coil ... 3 PM! Day is done! I'm going home!

("Take 100 grams of walnuts, mix them with 3 teaspoons of honey and 2 teaspoons of vodka. ")
@StoneyB Bye, Stoney!

@StoneyB Bye!

@CopperKettle The heck is that a cake?

@Ϻ.Λ.Ʀ. It's a Russian cake, have you forgotten this? (0:

Sounds like expectorant to me.
Oh right.

9:01 PM
@CopperKettle There's more honey added than vodka?

@modulusshift The cake's name is Man's Whim. I've no idea why there's the need for vodka. (0:
Just a tradition, probably.

A whim, perhaps.

@Ϻ.Λ.Ʀ. Chemist at heart...

To honor the memory of Mendeleyev (who came up with the 40% vodka recipe)

Still sounds like an expectorant.
@Stephie Yeah sure, lemme tell that to the next 100 people and see how many will believe.

9:04 PM
However, one of the inscriptions on a stand in the "Museum of vodka" in St. Petersburg says that Mendeleev regarded the ideal strength of vodka to be 38 degrees, but this number was rounded to 40 to simplify the calculation of the tax on alcohol.
So Mendeleyev's vodka is 38%.

I have no idea how seriously this should be taken. :)
"However, Mendeleev's dissertation was about alcohol concentrations over 70% and he never wrote anything about vodka." - Wikipedia
I'm somehow more impressed.

Yes. There are myths about Mendeleyev. (0:

9:20 PM
"Men are not free when they are doing just what they like. The moment you can do just what you like, there is nothing you care about doing. Men are only free when they are doing what the deepest self likes. [...] And there is getting down to the deepest self! It takes some diving."
(D. H. Lawrence)

@CopperKettle Deepest self? Lemme ask my electrons.

I was just leafing through stashed quotations.. (0:
"The pessimists are aristocrats like Byron; the men who curse God are aristocrats like Swinburne. But when those who starve and suffer speak for a moment, they do not profess merely an optimism, they profess a cheap optimism; they are too poor to afford a dear one. They cannot indulge in any detailed or merely logical defence of life; that would be to delay the enjoyment of it." (Chesterton)
