01:00 - 19:0019:00 - 23:00

19:00
@PhiNotPi Yeah, locking repeaters would be the best
Input is buttons, buffered into an HID driver circuit. Then the linux kernel running on the computer...
what data bus width will we use?
we were thinking 32-bit words, but that might be too much
Anonymous
"that might be too much" said nobody fun ever
I think we can make 32-bit words 16-bit addresses work
We also need to figure out how to program the thing
19:02
@Mego I was also toying with the idea of book-based output. Too difficult though...
Anonymous
If we use <32-bit words, how are we supposed to get the full Minecraft/Java-1.7/GNU/Linux stack working?
book based?
@Calvin'sHobbies Yeah.
What's book based?
So we have some books named 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32...
@quartata that means 96 blocks wide for data + addr
Anonymous
Better idea
It wouldn't be as pretty though
Output by block count?
Anonymous
We have our output be 8-bit memory cells
19:04
Actually we could do block count now that you can dispense pumpkins, right?
Anonymous
Displayed in a 4x2 redstone lamp array
Might work
@TheDoctor Yeah.
Not that bad.
Anonymous
Then all the instructions we need are +-<>.,[]
We could probably write our on OS for it
We need 50 words for the prime number one
Anonymous
19:05
We can call it MineF**k
I had the same thought this morning.
@Mego We toyed with BF already but I think we decided not to
I personally like Phi's design better
not natively, at least
has anyone gotten the primes program to work in logisim?
@Mego 3 bits per instruction.
Anonymous
19:06
3 bits per instruction, acting in-place on 8-bit memory
Anonymous
Need more memory? <s>download it</s> make more 8-bit cells on the tape
Then we run into the problem of having tape and program memory
and the fact that it's literally BF
@Mego Use ---
yeah program storage...
...
@PhiNotPi I got the circuit open in logisim
How exactly should I input the instructions?
Anonymous
19:09
My suggestions should typically be viewed as 80% humor
Anonymous
Though I do want to eventually create a native BF computer in minecraft
@quartata The program is contained in RAM, although you must load the RAM image I included
Anonymous
Bye Doc
such salutations
19:11
I'm really stupid. How do I load the RAM image?
@PhiNotPi You mean very salutations
try right clicking on the RAM block
Ah I see
and then, after you do that, you must set the program counter (the counter block underneath the RAM block) to 0010
What is its default value?
0000
19:14
Lot of different blocks
OK
it's the only counter near there
everything else next to it is a register of some other kind
connected to an AND block
@quartata found it?
Anonymous
Anonymous
def picture(n):1000*word(n)
Anonymous
So, for theoretical Minecraft golfing
Anonymous
19:20
Score would be the number of blocks used, I suppose
Anonymous
So if a theoretical design used 5 redstone dust, 3 sticky pistons, 4 wool, and 2 redstone lamps, it would have a score of 21
Anonymous
Maybe not count the lamps since they're output, and input wouldn't count as well
@Mego have you gotten it to work?
Anonymous
I think?
Anonymous
It did stuff, I wasn't sure what it was doing
19:26
Should we make a meta question for this for crowdsourcing work?
the output of the primes program is in the binary output bar thing in the very top right
Or, another point, should we make a meta question to announce that we're doing this?
Yeah I found it. I'm not sure how to change the value of it though
Show Attributes doesn't have a value attribute
Just Max Value
use the finger-pointy tool, click it, and type
Alright, did that.
I'm not sure it really did anything though
I have never used this software so...
19:28
well, it's not running yet
so, RAM is loaded and counter is set?
Then go to simulate->ticks_enabled and simulate->simulation_enabled
make sure both of those are checked
I checked ticks enabled
is anything moving?
Yes
It's working
I see now
19:31
output is the binary number in the very top right, shown in the 3rd of 3 bars
Very cool
so that's it
there will be some important differences between that design and the MC one
Such as doing 16-bit addresses, so each instruction is a single word, not two
Although there are some advantages of having 2-word instructions, such as being able to overwrite 1/2 of the instruction with a new destination
which is how we would be able to retrieve stuff from arrays
we need to be able have the computer change its own instructions
20:01
order of pulses, repeating
1) RAM address (RegD) set to 0 (the instruction pointer address)
2) read RAM and store 32-bit word in 2 16-bit registers, regA and regB
3) RAM address set to RegA
4) read from RAM and store in RAM write input (RegC)
5) RAM address set to RegB
6) pulse RAM write-enable line
7) increment instruction pointer
so, there's 4 main registers involved

1 hour later…
21:05
Great the authentication servers are down
Wait a second..
That's strange.
It says the multiplayer session servers are down but not the authentication server
21:15
Which witch farm do we want? I'm leaning towards this one instead of this more popular one because that old one apparently uses glitches that will be fixed in 1.9.
I thought we were going to roll our own honestly
I was going to build it so it was just a spawning pad with water pushing them down into a drop that either has a lava blade or wolves on leashes with their owner holding a looting sword
Also can you connect to any servers right now?
Anonymous
Lava blade won't work because potions
@Mego The fall will bring them down to one health.
They won't have enough time to drink a potion of fire resistance
Anonymous
Or we just kill them with the fall
Anonymous
>=32 block drop = ded
21:21
The idea is that the lava blade is higher up than the bottom so that it can be turned on or off.
Without harming the wolves
Anonymous
Or we just kill them with the fall
Anonymous
They fall 32 or more blocks -> dead on impact
Anonymous
Hi Dogtor
But you can't change the fall to be a lethal one without harming the wolves
Anonymous
21:23
Why do we need wolves?
wolves
Because if their owner is holding a looting sword we'll get the additional loot drops
and XP if we want that
Anonymous
21:24
We don't need XP from witches, we have the ender farm
OK, but we still get additional drops which means more redstone
Anonymous
Or we just kill more of them
why don't you have the wolves at the bottom?
@TheDoctor They are.
@Mego ...
Anonymous
2 hours ago, by Mego
My suggestions should typically be viewed as 80% humor
Anonymous
21:26
But seriously, it would be way simpler to just kill them with fall damage
"failed to connect"
nvm
What would you rather have, 14 stacks of redstone an hour or 20 stacks?
Anonymous
With VTC's suggestion about keeping chunks loaded with hoppers, it can be pure AFK
Hey the authentication servers are back!
Anonymous
No need for anyone to stand near it
21:27
@Mego This is still pure AFK.
Yes there is
Mobs only spawn near players
Anonymous
Oh right
@Mego Also this was my idea lel
@quartata Are you sure looting counts for dog kills?
Anonymous
21:27
I can't keep track
@Calvin'sHobbies Pretty sure.
It should be no different from TNT
@quartata Have a source for that? It seems like a weird rule.
Trying it out right now.
Basically TNT kills from a flame bow and wolf kills count like player kills, and any kill gotten with a looting sword out applies the bonus
But either way we could probably have a level that extends with pistons at 32 blocks (or w/e the almost kill limit is) and have a wolf/sword area there
Anonymous
32 is the kill number, so we'd want it to be 31
21:33
@Mego This was not my idea. My idea was wrong. :D
Anonymous
Disregard me being dumb
Anonymous
As always
It appears to not work..
Why?
That is very strange.
It should.
The wolf shouldn't be different from splash potions or TNT.
Why? I know minecraft is quirky but it makes sense that you only get looting if the sword actually strikes.
It works for splash potions and TNT though.
Like I just tried it.
Switching to a looting sword gives you the bonus.
But a wolf performing the kill does not.
Anonymous
i.e. switch to sword just before the potion kills them?
Yes
That means that wolves are programmed completely differently from all other entities great
Thanks Dinnerbone
It just means that wolves have their own kills
But they drop XP...
Just like a player kill
You know what forget it we'll do it old school then.
Anonymous
Drop it like it's hot
21:38
We'll just gather a bunch of witches and use the splash potion looting sword trick. We'll get the bonus, it'll just be semi automatic
It can be switchable
Yeah like Etho's zombie pigman one
That's easy enough
My perspective. c:
Anonymous
oink
Indeed.
Nether is borked.
21:46
Nether sky was never meant to be seen
I know, but still. :D

Hello darkness my old friend
This witch farm is actually really simple. The amount of redstone used could be reduced though.
22:01
yo
22:16
@Calvin'sHobbies What are the coords for the witch hut again?
