You can view a suggestion with http://superuser.com/edit-suggestions/ID
3
Please only list suggestions that are handled or that you want to discuss, listing new suggestions is redundant.

Have fun...
Suggestions 1 to 7 have been handled.
good job @TomWij
room topic changed to Super User: Suggestion Watch : Reviewing edit suggestions on Super User...
nice name @TomWij
Hmm... @TomWij moving over to here now... that may present a prob.... how do we know if the question has been accepted or not?
@DMA57361 I guess we'll have to scrape for the pages and then post a link to the actual question.. and then decide if it's needed to be edited
You can't see if the edit has been accepted/rejected, but you can see the current version by clicking on the question title.

@TomWij's right, @KronoS, you can click the question to see the newest edition of the page
@studiohack right... but for @DMA57361's purposes we want a list of unaccepted edits....
ah, true. gotcha @KronoS
I wonder if there's a code bit in the page that shows that there's a pending edit and we could search for that...
@KronoS let me see if I can get some useful data first ;)
@DMA57361 sorry I'm jumping the gun already lol
19:38
@KronoS @DMA57361: Scraping could minimize our individual redundant requests to check the URL and automatize the process instead of keeping track of the IDs ourself, which makes this room redudant. But note that as this is fairly new their code might change which makes this unavailable, I would suggest to just keep track of the suggestions that have been handled but if you want to write a tracker, go ahead... :-)
@DMA57361: Do you have an online host?
@TomWij afraid not, my limited playing so far has been from my home "server"
@DMA57361: PHP?
yeah
scraping is really a bad way of doing this @TomWij, unless you'd do it every 15 mins one time perhaps
but even so
@IvoFlipse: A single site scraping would result in less requests than the users all checking individually.
19:41
and one wrong number in your iterator and you bring down SU :P
You don't have to do it every 15 minutes.
Let's say no users doesn't visit it for 2 hours, you can then do a request as the user visits.
But indeed, limit the request interval so we don't flood requests.
@TomWij once or twice a day is fine actually... @IvoFlipse
@IvoFlipse: You don't have to iterate it, just track a number, scrape it, increment the number.
@IvoFlipse: Or if you mean, to check the approval of each questions, maybe.
But still, then you have two numbers: One following the new edit suggestions and one following the approvals.
@KronoS I would just suggest to make it request based and limit it in the same way as the API limitations.
do you know what, I don't really know what I'm doing anyway :)
@DMA57361 lol
@TomWij that would be best
19:46
@KronoS well the other thing was using the API, which is quite easy, and it's not persistent
If user visits the scraping site:
1. Check if requests limit have been hit, if so, show cached situation. If not, proceed.
2. Check if edit suggestion `n + 1` exists, if so, scrape it and increment `n`.
3. Check if edit suggestion `k` has been approved/rejected, increment `k` and repeat step 3, perhaps limit the amount of requests made.
n gives amount of edit suggestions, k to n is the list that's pending our attention.
@DMA57361: I think I can provide hosting later if you need to, but not now, server needs a reinstall and I'm in my exam period.
@TomWij no rush; as just said I don't really know what I'm doing... I can maybe cobble something ugly together
but if anyone else wishes to try, feel free
@DMA57361: Yeah, just thinking about it, it takes away the effort of us having to track the IDs and decreases the amount of requests towards SE.
I could write such thing myself, not now, but in two weeks...
Hmm, my list here misses scraping more than n+1. Perhaps we can get it only to scrape new questions when everything has been handled. Or even better, only show the current unhandled edit suggestion to the visitor...
Which is 1 request if it hasn't been handled and 2 requests if it has been handled and thus the next one will be shown to the visitor.
But well, I recommend this channel for now... :-)
superuser.com/questions/239065/… is going to be edited, but only @KronoS is going to approve it to confirm that only one approve is necessary
Suggestions have been handled till 8.
19:58
having nosed at the API for the question that edit 1 was against it looks like they API shows these as normal revisions once complete
Suggestions have been handled till 9.

sorry @KronoS, but getting a scraper up is already giving me trouble, so getting one that's useful and not dangerous is unlikely - give me a yell if/when these things make it in to the API and I might be able to help again then
ok @DMA57361 we'll just keep track manually i guess...
it's not really an area I've got a lot of experience in, unfortunatly
That's ok... you know more than I do
as I say, if they turn up on the API I can be more useful, as the API is relatively easy to use
ok... I really don't know how to track if that info is available yet or not...
20:18
fair point; I've had a glance and didn't see anything obvious in there

2 hours later…
