Q: Get the Bible verse

SomebodyWrite a program that accesses Project Gutenberg's KJV Bible from a file called pg10.txt in the working directory, takes a Bible verse reference as input, and prints the corresponding verse, with no newlines except optionally one at the end, as output. The standard format for a reference is [book]...

Uiua has got a major redesign again
this time towards numpy :/
No more ocean
Water dried up
wee wuh
next thing you know, the stack will be removed
02:24
i was interested in uiua but at this point i'm not going to try it unless they really get their act together about what the language is
The language has only been publicly available since August give it some time :p
Gotta start somewhere
i mean yes but also my position stands
02:52
I think kai knows what uiua is about: it's about array manipulation with a stack to make managing data easier. The "instability" comes from changing built-ins.
03:24
My main gripe is that Uiua looked like "an APL/BQN descendant with a stack" but is progressively going away from it
03:36
wait did an entire class of "ocean functions" get added and removed since the last time i looked
wow
ocean notation
but basically, yeah
added on the 21st of October, removed on the 19th of November
that's the addition
that's the removal
the idea being it's been replaced with rerank
04:05
one of my cs professors just referenced intercal
i feel happy

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

alephalphaRudin-Shapiro sequence code-golf integer sequence The Rudin-Shapiro sequence is a sequence of \$1\$s and \$-1\$s defined as follows: \$r_n = (-1)^{u_n}\$, where \$u_n\$ is the number of occurrences of (possibly overlapping) \$11\$ in the binary representation of \$n\$. For example, \$r_{461} = -...

Anyone have good suggestions for IDEs for android mobile or tablet?
what level of corporate skepticism we talking?
ACode seems to be the highest rated one on the Google play store. For reference, I'm really familiar with vscode
@lyxal well, I think companies do exist, they aren't just conspiracy theory
I more meant in terms of "do you trust microsoft/github"
because codespaces for mobile seems to be good
@lyxal I've had to, so if I didn't that ship has well and truly sailed
on any github repo, you can open a full vs code instance in your web browser
10:40
@lyxal but do I want to...?
The code I'm writing will end up there regardless so 🫤🤷🏻‍♂️
no i mean like github literally has vs code that you can open in your browser
@lyxal I understood you before
just making sure
But if it's an awful mobile/tablet experience I'd rather use an app
now sure, it's a tiny bit cramped, but if vs code is what you're used to, it could be a viable option
10:42
@lyxal I appreciate it
@lyxal where I'm going doesn't have great signal
ahh
so you'll need an offline option
gotcha
Possibly? I'd like the option
it's been years since I last tried to code and run code on mobile in a dedicated app, and even then it was python
10:43
Rather than turn up, struggle for connection/mobile interface for an hour then leave
if you're using python, I'd reccomend pydroid 3.
I've not pythoned in almost 10 years
Although i've just downloaded ACode and it looks nice at first glance
I'm a js/TS/node Dev at heart now
you poor soul
10:44
(python will always have a special place in my heart though)
@lyxal feel sorry for my colleagues instead
how the hell do they have chatgpt for ACode mobile
ain't no way
How does that work.....‽
honestly no clue. It's an extension
I'm still exploring it for myself to see if it's reccomendable
makes the sign of the cross
Which is saying something given I'm Muslim 👀
well ACode seems like a good option given you're doing JS/TS
I'd have listed node but that doesn't seem to be supported through extensions yet
there's a TS compiler extension though
ads are a bit of a nuisance though
every 5-8 actions one pops up
10:49
I'm wondering if I can spin up a full react app on mobile or not 🤔
if you'd said svelete I would have said yes because there's an acode extension for that :p
imo ACode has my tick of approval

Q: Updates to the Acceptable Use Policy

SlateAs part of our ongoing efforts to review and update policies, we’ve updated our Acceptable Use Policy. There are several reasons for this, but the main ones are: to make the language more clear and to include things that we identified were missing as part of the CoC update. For the opening three ...

> Framing and Scraping. Frame or mirror any Stack Exchange Network website without Stack Exchange's express prior consent. Use any automated or non-automated data gathering means (including but not limited to robots, spiders, scrapers, crawlers, and the like) to gather any text, files, audio or visual media, profile information, or any other content from any Stack Exchange Network website without Stack Exchange's express prior consent.
thanks SE very cool
@lyxal lol what
that and there's also the fact that this was announced and pushed out without a 7 day feedback period
the 7 day feedback period being a key condition of the strike resolution
> Any proposed binding network-wide policy must undergo a mandatory feedback and review period, of a minimum of seven business days (as defined by standard Stack Exchange, Inc. corporate business days), where Stack Exchange network moderators can provide feedback and have the policy revised before it goes live.
to quote this answer it wasn't even made as an announcement
which is strange given it's on the featured bar
gotta love upstairs making changes and doing things without considering the community and the people moderating the community (CM team included in the people not being considered by upstairs)
Your point is a reasonable one. I looked into this when I was made aware of this policy change earlier today. We are treating this as a process miss - it was not a deliberate decision to skip the agreed-upon community review step, and I am immediately revising a portion of our release process to prevent future misses of the same root cause. Philippe has addressed the need for compliance with the concerned folks on our team, and we have reminded the Legal team of our obligations under the agreement as well. — Slate ♦ 14 hours ago
that's what I meant by upstairs bypassing community
not even the CM team had input on this
" I looked into this when I was made aware of this policy change earlier today. " Shouldn't y'all be in the loop, since it does touch heavily on the community side of things? There might be deeper process failures here if I'm not misinterpreting what you said. — Journeyman Geek 12 hours ago

Q: We're rolling back the changes to the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)

Cesar MI’m writing this post to let you know that we’re fully rolling back the changes made yesterday to the AUP and having them go through moderator review. I also want to briefly talk about how it happened: much earlier this year - in May 2023, I received a preview copy of this from our legal team for...

@ShadowWizardIsSadAndAngry Such an apology and immediate rollback – within 24 hours of our complaints, even – has not happened in the past several years, iirc. This is an example of us being listened to without a boycott or strike, and the first thing that's left me somewhat confident that things might be getting better. — wizzwizz4 2 hours ago

Q: Shortest Algorithm That Generates a Harlequin* Pattern

q-l-p What is the shortest possible length of an algorithm* that generates on each side of the cube a pattern that has: 6 colors at most 2 facelets of the same color no adjacent facelets of the same color What is the algorithm (or algorithms)? 1 I made up the name of the pattern. 2 In the Rubik ...

21:32
I hope this isn't a stupid question but ...
CMQ can you do integer arithmetic in C so you always keep the lowest 64 bits of the result?
@emanresuA a very good outcome
@lyxal I can't help hearing this in Ryan George's voice
"so, you have a acceptable use policy update for me?"
"Yes, sir, I do. I was thinking how about we just don't allow any."
"sounds like that'll be tough to get past moderator review"
21:42
"Actually, super easy, barely an inconvenience"
"Policy reviews are TIGHT!"
@DLosc "oh really?"
Is my question stupidly obvious?
@Simd Rather the reverse to me, I'm not sure what the answer is.
I guess if you used a 64-bit integer type and ignored overflow?
@lyxal "Yeah yeah yeah. We show it to the moderators and then make it public almost immediately without leaving much time for them to review it. It's practically perfect already, I don't see what could go wrong"
21:59
@DLosc *cut to screen rant article featuring apology post*
@lyxal "Oh, whoops!"
"whoopsie!"
22:54
@Simd integer arithmetic using unsigned long long (or to be more portable, uint64_t from <stdint.h>) is guaranteed to do that I think
"The First Book of the Kings
Commonly Called:
The Third Book of the Kings"
Ah yes, the fun of Bible naming/numbering schemes
23:50
in a weird twist, I noticed my golf to my original answer to q/266941 could be adapted to an old approach which I had previously abandoned for being too long, yet in adapting that approach to take advantage of my original golf it actually ended up being shorter still
