maybe we can breed a juicier avocado?
I mean, 73% water content is a lot of water, we just need a way to extract it
That'd remove water-soluble flavor and aromatic compounds that would make it a juice tho
Distilled mushed apple pulp is just water, not apple juice
You could go with the nut milk approach
Blend the flesh, then squeeze out the juice
Yeah, maybe
Then possibly distill out some water to concentrate it
I'm predicting avocado juice will be unexpectedly slightly sweet
Without the 15% fat, the 8.5% carbohydrate, a lot of which is probably sugar, will be more noticeable
Tomorrow I'm sneaking some cookies home from work anyway, so maybe I'll throw in a few jumbo hass avocados while I'm at it
Not in the cookies but like
in the same transaction
Avocado cookies. A christmas tradition.
01:05
why are we talking about juicy avocados?
the words "juicier" and "avocado" were never meant to be together
cuz of that one deleted post where someone asked how to juice an avocado
now its a meme lol
02:03
I think it was a TNB meme before the post
Nope
IIRC, the meme originated from the post
Oh, that's a mod ability I really love: the deleted:1 search keyword shows all deleted posts, not just my own :P
@RadvylfPrograms My bad, yep, it appears to have originated from this chat message:

@PhiNotPi hello i have quetions how does juice an avocado i have try for thirtee minut and no juic
03:02

 Operation: Juic

How to juic advacado? Science time.
If anyone's interested
@RadvylfPrograms what is this
Where I will record my research on my quest to juice an avocado
The research is promising
ye..... but like, its a meme, right?
Yes, but I genuinely want to know what avocado juice would be like
Whether it's possible, for one
And what it would taste/look like, for two
(and avocados have a dedicated following like no other produce item. if I could reveal that avocados have a dark secret nobody had dared unearth, I could probably make a ton of money. I'm predicting avocado juice will taste good, have a low sugar content, a high vitamin content, and look very appealing and marketable on a store shelf)
huh ok, gl

SUN
@mousetail Lots/Little (depending on where you live) of that tomorrow.
Very little unfortunatly
10:57
speaking of the sun, is it normal for it to have 75% of it missing?
Also, why is it white all of a sudden
I thought it was yellow
I have 50% of it missing
Wait what?
It's also doing a pretty bad job of illuminating the sky
The sky is mostly black
I think you might be confusing it with the moon
Though I haven't seen the sun for a while either, sky is mostly grey
There's also all these little white dots in the sky too
I think the sun had a little accident and made a bit of a mess
Possibly stars? I'm jealous
There's too much light polution around me to see stars
even if there was ever a hole in the clouds

Somehow, despite being in suburbia, there are still some stars visible
@mousetail that may or may not have been the joke :p

When you change your hat it takes a bit to update
You can only wear one at a time
I'm not wearing any in the first place
how do I wear one?
Ok not wearing a hat would explain no visible hats

yeah people are leaving at a high rate
-22 in total

apparently a controversial post of mine got +8

only -10 here
This hypothetical person didn't like lyxal
whoever it is, they've made a great impact on most of us
@mousetail or their votes on my answers are old enough that they were kept :p
12:24
@UndoneStudios I've seen a message on TNB relating to it

@lyxal that will keep your lost rep?
it does
@mousetail I'm on holiday, so yeah
oh

Shog9I'm not gonna call this completed; as you and everyone else reading this know, we do still throw away some votes for some user-deletions... and probably always will for the reasons you noted in your proposal. But we have a system in place to prevent the most disruptive forms of vote deletion, a...

no time limit, just number of votes
That matches the meta page I linked
Don't know why caird thought 60 days
12:39
perhaps an old rule that got removed
@mousetail it was also in reference to post deletion
not user deletion
Oh makes sense
got my transcript context searching mixed up :p
So this person did genuinely not up-vote you very much
quick side-topic: y'all ever work on your own code and think "gah this is so stupid who wrote this logic that is so restrictive" only to realise that it's your own frameworks/structures/whatever that you are forgetting how to use?
@mousetail well works for me - less red = more better :p
12:41
@lyxal never happens to me
if I realised that, I'd immediately rectify it instead of starting a blame game
I do get confused sometimes trying to build a way too generic framework that's basically turns out the same as the framework I'm building on top of and solves nothing
would you blame yourself or something?
It's not about blaming, it's just about recognizing a pattern
and trying to do something about it
another quick side topic: I checked graffe's account, but it turns out they created a new one, which is strange
@mousetail pattern of what?
Pattern of working on your code and thinking "gah this is so stupid who wrote this logic that is so restrictive" only to realise that it's your own frameworks/structures/whatever that you are forgetting how to use?
12:45
@mousetail does that happen to you repeatedly? It never happened to me
@lyxal turns out I forgot the return signature of a function. I was thinking it was just an ignorable Unit when it was actually a VAny (basically, a non-None value)
so no, I never realised it
@UndoneStudios You are a teenager though, not a profesional developer

@UndoneStudios You only really get these types of issues on much larger projects
like the tictactoe and... yeah pretty much that's it

Tictactoe is easy to keep track of, you need little to no abstraction
@mousetail like certain esolangs :p
I right now am making something about 3D raycasting, which I guess counts?
If it's done yes
You'll probably need enough abstraction that it gets a bit hard to keep track of

CMC: Let a "span" be a pair of integers x, y representing the range of integers [x, y). Given two ordered lists of non-overlapping spans, Output an ordered list of non-overlapping spans corresponding to the union of the input.
hmm this is possibly not mini enough for a CMC, I might sandbox it
I had to do that recently, for a regex-style language
If it's not an existing challenge it'd be a fun one

@pxeger I should also have specified that a valid span always has y > x
16:26
@pxeger Can we take the two lists of spans as one list of spans? e.g. [(1, 4), (6, 7), (0, 3), (7, 9)]?
Sure, but I don't see how that makes it easier
I can save 2 bytes in Jelly with it :P
Is it still linear in time and space?
I think so for time, no idea about space
as long as you aren't generating a table of all the integers from 0 to MAX_INT (which is an easy way to cheat and get "linear" time) or something like that, it probably will be linear space
16:30
I'm sure there's an easier way, but here's a 20 byte Jelly answer
Reminds me of a challenge I've done before tho, lemme see if I can find it
@pxeger Related.
It's 14 bytes in my Jelly fork, as it has the Œġ builtin (group consecutive elements). We love a specific builtin :P

Opinion: COPPA is a dumb law and people under 13 should be allowed on SE
SE's practically the safest way to design something on the internet for children IMO
All of the interactions between users are competently moderated, chat exists on-site and is moderated and public, etc.
@RadvylfPrograms Did you get OSP running again?
Oh, I didn't. I'll do that now.
@pxeger isnt that still linear time/space
17:24
well if you assume a finite upper bound on your integers like INT_MAX, it's O(1) space with an enormous constant term
but that's clearly cheating
18:15
No way! I just found out one user posted 235 answers to the same question.
That's got to be a record...
Dunno, maybe someone posted that many "answers" to the Sandbox?
Well uh...I copied OSP over to my droplet and now I can't SSH to it?
rsync didn't somehow overwrite my home directory with OSP did it
That's exactly the sorta thing I'd do
Uh oh
Even DigitalOcean can't connect to it
OSP is too powerful
We've got a rogue server
Remotely power cycling it, but I'm pretty sure it won't help since I think I just overwrote .ssh with everybody's favorite TNB chatbot 💀
Okay well the good news is I've managed to connect via the recovery console
And .ssh isn't overwritten
But the permissions were overwritten
On both the client and server side...
18:46
Sounds like you are having a fun evening
I seriously have no clue what happened
Everything seems like it should be working
@TheThonnu Yep, stasoid is a bit of a legend
@RadvylfPrograms Well, I can't remember if I added a status command to OSP, so I guess we'll just have to wait a few hours and see :P
Well, there's no cron thing set up to run it
rsync -ar osp/ rust_drop:~
This is the command that broke everything
I'm guessing that caused rsync to overwrite a ton of permissions in my droplet's ~, since that seems to be what happened to my home directory too (thanks -a), but I don't know what would matter other than .ssh
Why are you even using rsync manually instead of a CI pipeline?
18:52
I'm copying it over from my old server to my droplet
OHHHHH I see what happened!
It overwrote the perms on my home dir to make them the same as osp/
Which was 775
YES!
Fixed it
God I hate rsync's behavior change based on whether there's a trailing / or not
Without fail I either nest things in unnecessary directories, or I end up putting all the contents in the directory I was supposed to make a single directory in
This is why you make backups, kids
(and also why you don't run all your apps in screen sessions, since now I need to figure out what all I had running and start it up again)
Yay, OSP's working!
19:08
@cairdcoinheringaahing Looking at the code, nope, OSP just straight up ignores every message in the room, posts its thing, then leaves :P
It used to stick around using a websocket I think, but I made you change that since the library would busy-loop and eat up my CPU time :p
@pxeger I think this ungolfed Pip solution is correct, though it's not technically linear time because of Python's list implementation.
Do we have to handle negative numbers in the spans?
Okay I'm converting all of my screen sessions to systemd services
This is going surprisingly well
I already did it for NPSP, so I'm just copying that and changing some stuff

Literally anytime I do a challenge in Jelly, I hate it :/
My hobby: Forgetting my headphones are plugged in and wondering why my laptop's so muted
@RadvylfPrograms My hobby: Forgetting my headphones are plugged in and walking away from my laptop wearing them
21:29
Solution: Use wireless headphones
I avoid most wireless things for fear of bad connections and low battery.
In fact, the only wireless things I use regularly are my mobile phone (which has a has a battery that lasts for weeks) and my (dumb) wristwatch (which is solar powered).
For mice, headphones, keyboards, whatever, wired is so much better unless you specifically need wireless
Agreed. Although I liked my Microsoft mouse that could run both wired and wireless.
@Adám weeks?
Officially three weeks when it was new, yes, but I think it is a few years old now, and I think it is down to two by now. I rarely run it to the very bottom; tend to charge it once a week or so.
21:40
yikes
i recharge it every day
iphone or android?
@Seggan No.
Oh wait, the three weeks was for my previous phone. This one was only officially 16 days when new. Oh well ¯\_(⍨)_/¯
@cairdcoinheringaahing gah foiled again by a moderator!
@Steffan laughs and or cries in lack of headphone jack on phone
@Adám you're telling me every single other object you use regularly has wires connected to it? ;)
21:55
Yes, I'm very forgetful, so I use the wires to find my way back to each object ;-)
That could be the secret to getting avocad juic - wired avocodas
Some avocados have built-in wires.
22:12
@Adám flip phone?
No, candy-bar.
(yes, in that colour)
@Steffan I have a flip phone, but I have to recharge it maybe twice a week. It's... not the best phone ever made. I frequently wish, half jokingly, that I knew how to hack into it and fix all the bugs.
@DLosc Does it have a web browser?
@forest Technically, I think so, but it's got maybe a 2 1/2 inch screen, so it wouldn't be very useful.
I've used Nokia candy-bar phones since this beauty:
22:21
@forest Hmm, can't find a web browser actually. I might be thinking of my previous phone.
@DLosc Then you can very likely hack it with ease.
Most of those old browsers are based on one or two IPs that are really, really outdated and insecure.
Think Opera Mini, but worse.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's hackable, but I don't know how and I'm not quite motivated enough to learn ;)
It'd probably be easier than hacking anything else. I doubt it has NX or ASLR or stack canaries or really any security mitigation made after the early 90s. Even a linear buffer overflow would allow complete device compromise. Hell, it probably doesn't even have an MMU, so you could directly access kernel memory from some insecure JavaScript function!
It runs KaiOS, for what it's worth
Wow, that's bulky for a flip phone.
22:29
I tried a KaiOS phone. That was horrible. I ended up breaking it in half out of anger. (Yes, literally.)
I can understand why :P
@DLosc what a coincidence. i have a kaios flip phone
I feel your pain.
I think my only issue with my current phone is that I can't change T9 language to Danish.
23:17
Haven't been active for a long time
how's lyal and ldw running now?
not too well
23:30
@TheThonnu coincidentally I have earned 235 rep since I last checked my rep
@Adám nice, I also have a solar powered wristwatch, although it's not that dumb because it's also a radio-controlled clock
@DLosc, any chance I could get a hand inputting lists of strings for a test suite in pip? This is the function I want to map over the test cases, but I'm not having much luck with my inputs
@NumberBasher hey welcome back! Good to see you again :p
