@PyGamer0 Done :P
is that the haskell like one?
yeah, i can a take a guess at why WW likes it
@JoKing It looks like Haskell, but no monads :(
"Monads aren't beginner friendly"
It's like Haskell but they removed all the fun stuff.
And then added row polymorphism because JS has it.
@JoKing I use obelisk at work, which is actually Haskell. I do not like it very much. (still better than react)
what even are monads? are they related to jelly's nilads monads dyads
They are not related to Jelly's monads.
@PyGamer0 They're monoids in the category of endofunctors
12:08
They are notoriously hard to explain. The conventional wisdom goes that in order to understand monads you must sacrifice your ability to explain them.
It's the kind of thing you learn from practical experience.
i should actually use haskell, (and c, rust)
no, not c
yes c
ugh, low-level languages are the worst
C is not really a low level language any more.
I think people should learn Haskell regardless of if they are going to use it. Learning can be difficult, but it opens your mind to new concepts and ways of thinking about programs.
It's also got it's own little circle of golfers here on PPCG!
12:11
@GrainGhost How did C get out of that horrifying sandpit?
The ways computers worked changed not C.
C is still pretty accurate to the execution of a PDP-11, but modern computer architecture doesn't work like a PDP-11.
good job c
@mathcat "web framework"?
@mathcat only ever used one, so STRUTS2
it was simultaneously fun and pain at the same time
I do not know of these "web frameworks" of which you speak
12:17
How come yall never use web frameworks?
Django, React, Express, ...
???
Honestly I do think they're overrated
@mathcat because I don't do web development, and flask isn't a "framework"
what are these mystery words magic man
flask is best and everyone should use it
I'd say "change my mind" but you can't so there's no point
@Ginger well a web framework is like flask but with even more stuff
12:19
For reference I've used elm, obelisk, flutter, vue and react. And I like them in that order (elm best; react worst).
@lyxal what stuff? all you need is flask and abache/nginx :b
I despise react too.
Too XML-y
I don't despise react, I'm sure there is worse. It's just worse than everything else I've used.
I found React better than Vue. What did you prefer about Vue?
Vue seemed equally ass backwards but at least it wasn't slow.
12:21
Since only I program in Python I prefer flask
there are 26 people in this room, counting that one <20 user
I don't care if you have an oppositely-faced opinion
> oppositely-faced opinion
@Ginger just some extra stuff like nicer session management, easier authentication management, data verification/validation
there's a new syntactic construct! d:
@lyxal sounds cool and like a way for me to add even more imports to my code, will investigate further
12:23
@lyxal basically invented Vyxal right?
not even basically
I did.
they did
totally unrelated but the names are pretty similar
no, they're related
lemme find the message rq
@py3programmer not an accident at all
12:24
@Ginger I meant wht im talking about is unrelated
Because i was also (Recently) making a lang
@py3programmer you may think it was an act of egoism, but in reality, it's a result of a lack of creativity in regards to naming things
also, having taken a look at the Babalang interpreter (which is written in Rust): holy cow rust is impossible
which basically renames functions to one-letter funcs
12:25
python: def main():
rust: fn main() -> std::io::Result<()> {
ಠ_ಠ
It's worth mentioning that while I've used all the other ones, I've not used Elm in enterprise code. I've just used it to make games and personal web pages. All the others I have, so that might skew the results a bit.
Anyone wants to make a language that reads Python answers to SE questions, every one of them, and execute the source code in Python using character names
Good way to trick SE
nyet
but requires Python answers
12:26
@Ginger don't you nyet me like that
that's a standard loophole iirc
which I think The Thonnu will supply anyway
@GrainGhost When I do games, I use p5js, not fancy framework magic
@Ginger shoot
and also I'm busy reimplementing babalang in python with added features
12:27
@mathcat What do you like about it?
Elm doesn't really get that fancy.
@mathcat I prefer good ol' built-in turtle
cause i dont make games much these days
any of yall happen to know of any good web-based SVG editors? (besides a text editor/browser console/etc because I know one of you smartasses will say it)
Everything is native, so it's not bolted onto an existing language.
Scratch
I mean, the sprite costume editing thing
@py3programmer ಠ_ಠ
12:28
Adobe Illustrator
:62183152 Ah I was talking about elm. :)
piracy time
But that answers the question.
lol just realised
I thought I saw a negation
what did you post?
and deleted
12:29
@Ginger find an svg-2-png site, edit the png in paint (or equivalent) and then png-2-svg ez
Adobe illustrator is not web based?
@lyxal screw you
how about I don't
@lyxal smart
Inkscape is very nice. But it's not web based.
12:30
ik, I wish I could just use it
I do pdf-word for editing pdfs, then word-pdf
@Ginger powerpoint
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
(also not web-based)
WHAT THE FUCK
12:32
Does anyone eat food still program in Scratch
how didn't you know there's office online?
@Ginger this is like basic stuff
I'm actually surprised you didn't know cloud office exists
nope
@Ginger I didn't know the F-word was allowed here
> the F-word
we try to use it with caution and restraint
12:34
@py3programmer 879 results say otherwise
lol
@south you can replace the #x with x
Uh oh time to quit dealing with stackexchange
Mar 30 at 18:51, by Ginger
> FUCK THE COSINE
12:35
coming straight from the underground
tell me Ginger. What caution went into that? :p
the cosine said my mother thought square roots were vegetables
878 results
more to go
But so far it seems only @Ginger likes posting the F-word
In uppercase
@lyxal it was a quote of the xkcd, which was written at 5:30 am, so im gonna say cumulatively 0 thought was put into it by any party :-)
@Ginger HA
12:37
@tybocopperkettle use t and s
@py3programmer Yeah, speaking of, can we try to keep swearing to a minimum please
@thejonymyster percisely
This is precisely examples of when people were swearing:
We're pretty lax with swearing and bad language, but there's no need to overuse it, or use it unnecessarily
@Ginger here
@cairdcoinheringaahing seriously?
12:38
@DLosc there are a lot of cases like that
@cairdcoinheringaahing yea, theres no need to overuse language
i only document one overload, but a lot of args are switchable
y'all it was only one instance of bad language - it's already being kept to a minimum
Well, I guess its time to leave SE
My profile won't load
Well Ig that keeps me here for some time
"Be Nice means being patient and welcoming, especially to new users. It means not being rude, and being polite instead. It means avoiding name-calling, bigotry, harassment and inappropriate language."
12:41
@lyxal A flag was raised on the message, that's why I stepped in
jeez
> inappropriate language
@cairdcoinheringaahing I saw, hell I dismissed it as invalid
that feels like a bit of an overreaction
\^
12:41
well, i raised the flag
my bad
@py3programmer No, it just says "inappropriate" and one instance of "fuck" doesn't qualify imo
@DLosc M@[ can be replaced with e[ fig.fly.dev/…
@lyxal how dare you not introduce e
> imo
well perhaps not everyones
@Seggan I can barely remember how to use my own languages and code, let alone yours :p
e is basically a short form of a map; it takes the ast given to it, and rearranges it so that it maps over its last argument
ei0x -> Mx'i0
12:44
"ast"? (not familiar with the term)
@py3programmer Yes, we ask that people moderate their language to be polite and appropriate to a public space such as the chat room. Swearing is not inherently rude, tho it is very often used in an inappropriate context. @Ginger you may be more comfortable with that kind of language, but at least one user has expressed discomfort with people using it. Please refrain from using that kinda language around people who express discomfort with it.
@thejonymyster yeah. abstract syntax tree. fig gets parsed ya know
Well thanks @cairdcoinheringaahing 😖
im one of those ppl too
@Seggan right, thanks :-)
i do know what an ast is, i just am terrible with acronyms
one time there was a thread about mario kart and someone said mk9 and i wasl ike. "Mortal kombat?"
12:45
@Seggan Ppl who support swearing, or those who don't?
dont
i will support swearing through all of his endeavours but i dare not speak his tongue
</shitpost>
oh wait
i forgot the s word is a swear genuinely
gg
to me s***post is its own word
sh*tpost is how I usually write it
12:47
Ok now for some reason the topic shifted from svg editors to swearing. TNB is so volatile
i need to get into svg editing
Today I won a basketball match, but just my bad luck, the opponents were so volatile they called us <redacted>
@thejonymyster I use Scratch
they called us [DATA EXPUNGED]
oh yeah i never thought about that but i guess scratch does let you make svgs
can you export them?
12:48
Yeah
thats why i use it
i had no idea.... this is a new era of svg editing for me :-)
Well ik it since 2019
:)
what's our policy on acronyms
the best thing i ever did was i took the :people_hugging: twemoji and switched the orders of the faces so that instead of the heads going over eachothers shoulders, they were face to face
so they were like, makin out lawl. :people_making_out:
12:51
I remember seeing someones SE profile with a gif on about me
that gif had a person falling to the ground
i think his hands were tied
whos was it?
mine
lmao i went and looked and thats not what i expected
yea
Waltuh
I didn't get it
12:52
its always funny when someone refers to someone you recognize but they dont
"someone here had a profile picture, a dude wearing a red hat, and i think he had overalls?"
@py3programmer it's a scene from S5 E14 of Breaking Bad which also happens to be a highly memeified gif
Why'd you select this?
Because Waltuh
because lyxal is a metalhead and i buried magnets in his yard
lyxal is a memelord
@thejonymyster yeah magnets, b*tch!
12:54
and again we go
with swearing
Sigh
I haven't seen a day other than this one where people swore more than ever
Something is wrong
@cairdcoinheringaahing soitenly, sorry @py3programmer
with us
> soitenly
what does soitenly mean
it's a corrupted form of "certainly"
12:57
Corrupted? Does that mean you aren't sorry?
no, its just a funny pronounciation
@py3programmer It’s Lyxal’s live reaction to not being elected
popularized by curly, of the three stooges, i believe
@Fatalize Ok that makes sense
Because the gif suggests violence
12:58
@Fatalize /srs I put the gif there on Saturday purely because I'm in the middle of binging Breaking Bad
towards <REDACTED>
ive always read the gif as despairing even in memes :-?
tfw you're mouth become qeustion mark
@thejonymyster well duh that's the context
CMM: Will we ever learn us a lang for great bad?
12:59
lmao
no
because then there wouldn't be any username jokes to make :p
