Q: C# puzzle - execute impossible code

Ariel BereslavskyThis is a small challenge which was given in my workplace, private static bool Test(bool a, bool b) { if ( a == b) { return false; } if (a) { if(b) { return true; } } return false; } The goal is to make it somehow output t...

Q: Permutation Encoding

EPICIPermutation Encoding Write a program which can encode text to avoid reusing characters, and convert back. Both normal and encoded forms are restricted to a particular character set: the space character with code point 32, the tilde character ~ with code point 126, and all characters between. T...

someone needs to go back in time and explan to past self that you can only have a maximum two typos or deep-fried punctuation in a post, if you want anyone reading to have any idea what the hell is going on
of course i would never have figured this out via mere conditioning, because this Skinner Planet im trapped in simply decides randomly whether a post is Good or Not Good
i might as well be paid based on atmospheric noise

spatterjay?
@Zacharý wait what
@Downgoat but can't you browserify. or webpack or wtahever

@ASCII-only no becuse it use nodejs-only module

@Downgoat oh :|

whale technically you can emscripten V8

rip the repo is gone

6:28 AM
@ASCII-only this is still vulnrable to CSRF
well same-site request forgery?
still XSS

@Downgoat ???

@ASCII-only the one you linked to IIRC does

@Downgoat with no site. probably. not sure if that makes it any better though

Q: CAN ANYBODY SOLVE THIS

subin sajuYou will be given 3 integers as input. The inputs may or may not be different from each other. You have to output 1 if all three inputs are different from each other, and 0 if any input is repeated more than once

0/10 no option Did not participate :P

@Mr.Xcoder While that's technically a "No" — don't participate in the vote. Why didn't you?

@Adám Two major problems: 1) I didn't know it was a thing 2) I don't know APL and never had enough time to join the sessions when they took place so I gave up :P
Dunno, learning how to program in golf in esolangs just feels much easier for me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@Mr.Xcoder 1) I guess I should have advertised it more. (PPCG did have a community ad.) Anyway, now you know for next time. 2) We're in the process of converting my lessons to Jupyter notebook and they will be runnable on TryAPL.org too.

Q: Multi-dimensional reversal

AdámGiven an N-dimensional orthogonal (non-ragged) array, and an indication of which dimensions to reverse, return the array but reversed along those dimensions. Quick question, is there some kind of shortcut to check for an array emptiness in javascript? something like [].length...

@LuisfelipeDejesusMunoz []===myarray?

@Adám I did not :c but it's nice to see a Brazillian win something sometimes :p

@J.Sallé A Brazilian in exile, you mean?

@Adám Well the person who got third place has a Brazilian name through and through

2:00 PM
@LuisfelipeDejesusMunoz Would l[0] or l>[] work?
@Adám nice

@Mr.Xcoder l[0] wont because it can contain a falsey value, but l>[] seems to work. Thanks

Great, np.
BTW one does not simply outgolf Arnauld in JS, my Padawan. :P

@Mr.Xcoder hahahaha I will, some day....

Good luck I wish you, but easy will it not be. :P
subtly turns into Yoda

@NewMainPosts @Adám why does rank behave differently between j and apl? J and apl

@Adám (and all other APL gurus) We have a new APL contributor here. I'm not the right guy to provide APL tricks. :)

3:37 PM
@ASCII-only it's like a skinner box, but a planet
i shouldnt have to explain this

3:50 PM
Well, TNB/PPCG continues to be in the Student Competition, unless that's a different Lynn
@Adám If I'm correct, two people did: Lynn (2nd place and Phase I), and <name-censored>

4:07 PM
Hey everyone. I haven't been on chat in a little while cause my last month was crazy. But I'm back now and I have a really big announcement...
I just got married last week! :D

(don't worry, I'm not changing my username or anything :P)

@DJMcMayhem Congrats!

Thanks

@DJMcMayhem Congratulations DJMcSeptem!

4:22 PM
@LuisfelipeDejesusMunoz [[[] is false...
I wish async functions could synchronously return or throw exceptions before the first use of await...

@Zacharý That was the 27000th message to be starred in TNB

Q: Find the hash in the text

@DJMcMayhem Yo, congrats!

@Zacharý It took 2 months, but I figured out why Verbosity is so slow:
> text = sys.stdin.read()

Oh shit since when do I have a close hammer O_o

@DJMcMayhem Congratulations. May your life together be wonderful.
Apparently being a PPCG mod is conducive to getting married…
@Cowsquack They behave the same. But the equivalent of J's |. is APL's , not (despite the apparent visual similarity). Yeah, J's symbol is a bit misleading for arrays of rank≥2.

@Adám thank you :)

6:06 PM
How do people feel about challenges that have 2 tasks combined, which could be asked as separate challenges?

@trichoplax Split.

Are there often golfing opportunities in such cases that wouldn't be possible in either task separately?

I think the amount of complaining about such challenges is too high.

@trichoplax Right, that's why I'm, split about it.

Oh I see - you feel split. That was the answer to my literal question, but my overeager brain went ahead and mistranslated it to "you should split such challenges"

6:10 PM
I also read it as "split the challenge"

I always suspect there are some positives, but I'm not a golfer so I don't know how much that's my optimism
I sandboxed an idea and got a comment "feels like 2 challenges" and it made me wonder how often that's a bad thing in general

Sometimes a challenge openly combines two tasks, like a transformation and its inverse. But there may well be code that can be shared between these, so combining them has merits.

@trichoplax I'm pretty confident that your challenge is better as one

Thanks :)
Mine aren't related but I suspect the code for the combination could be shorter than the sum of its components
It's so rare IRL to get an answer to the literal question asked that I forget it can happen in places like this...

Do any APL people know what I am doing wrong executing this program: tio.run/##SyzI0U2pTMzJT9dNzkksLs5M/v@/…

6:23 PM
Put a ⎕← before it

@Downgoat you're not printing the result
the EOF INTERRUPT isn't your fault
it's just the way the TIO setup behaves

@Zacharý oooh

6:53 PM
@H.PWiz thanks for your sandbox comment. I've added an alternative version which might address that problem

@Downgoat Also, please use Unicode instead of classic. You can still count 1 byte/char using my SBCS.

ngn
@Adám is there any way a link to that can be put in tio's answer template?

@Adám what's the difference?

@ngn Not yet. Dennis is considering such.
@Downgoat Unicode won't output garbage and echo input to stderr and won't have that EOF error. Plus it lets you use the newest primitives and Unicode text beyond Latin-1.

7:08 PM
@Adám oh ok

7:20 PM
@H.PWiz Dinner is served!

3 hours later…
10:18 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing why would that be slow though

10:42 PM
@Zacharý yep that's lynn

@ASCII-only :D PPCG/TNB places again!

11:10 PM
@DJMcMayhem Heh, I just noticed that all of our mods are in TNB right now.

Dwindling numbers probably helps with that

Speaking of dwindling numbers, how is Axtell coming along?
