Actually the correct way to make a std::shared_ptr is auto obj_ptr = std::make_shared<MyObject>(whatever)

@Mego I'm back to calling copy constructors. What does a shared_ptr copy ctor do?

Anonymous
If you're using std::make_shared, only move constructors should be invoked

@NewSandboxedPosts that user's challenges need some work on i/o formats

5:20 PM
> Complains about challenge in chat
> Doesn't leave comment on sandboxed post explaining the problem
See this is why people say the sandbox is useless
@Riker I don't actually see any problems. He doesn't specify any IO format, and leaves open how you want to take input or produce output.

@Dennis For some reason the election Q&A isn't showing up in the sidebar even though it's
Any idea what could be up with that?

@DJMcMayhem Maybe it only supports 2 featured posts?

3
MM counts
If that's the case, we should close the best of PPCG 2017, since the election is more important

@DJMcMayhem Caching. I've seen the sidebar take over 24 hours to notice a change on meta.

._.

5:30 PM
Or not. I've just visited a tab I opened a while ago, and I see it there.

@Dennis Does it show 3 featured posts?
Or is a different one hidden

Anonymous
I see anywhere from 2-4 featured posts, depending on the alignment of the planets

I see 2, I don't have the Mother Meta post
@Dennis Huh, 4 features, but only one HMP when I have 2.

I wonder if the gradscript has an effect

@Mego Mine's exactly like this one.

So basically it's all over the place

pfgIntroduction Given a width, height, and title, generate an ascii-art window Challenge Using the title (length < 2-width), generate the titlebar title:The text goes centered in the middle width:42 [ The text goes centered in the middle ] The width is always the right size so that there ar...

6:17 PM
@Pavel couldn't at the moment, left right after posting chat msg
leaving again now anyways

6:41 PM
Oh bloody... I just realised I haven't posted challenges in a while

cmc: post a challenge with a score of >20

english, 2 bytes: no

@betseg I'll take you up on that later :P

@betseg That cannot be done. All challenges have score=0 when posted.

cmc: post a challenge with an eventual score of >20

6:45 PM
:42584085 Eh, off-by-one errors.

should've edited to pancakes, @Erik

waffles

no, waffles used to be a CM

oh

6:48 PM
I haven't posted a challenge in ages, but I've got one in the works
I just need enough free time to finish and post it

I've got two in the works

I haven't posted a challenge in 14 days

i havent posted a challenge in 3 days
but the one before it was 9 months ago

@DJMcMayhem You still don't have socratic? I thought you were about to get it last august.

I think I was about to get it August before last :P

I haven't posted a challenge in 120 days

I haven't posted a challenge in 49 days

Oh wow

I haven't posted a challenge in 50 days

In 2016 I regularly posted 2-3 challenges a week
And then the fountain ran dry :P

6:54 PM
@DJMcMayhem But you have exactly 100 questions :P

Yeah, but a couple of them don't count cause they were on the same day or closed

@J.Sallé Now you've revealed your first name.
I haven't posted a challenge in 4 days.

@Adám Kudos if you can pronounce it correctly (you can't :p)

the a there is actually a ã

7:00 PM
jo-A-o sal-LE

@DJMcMayhem no, not yet :p

@J.Sallé Show-Aue?

I haven't posted a challenge in NaN days

@NieDzejkob ∞ days?

13.8 billion years
give or take a few billions

7:04 PM
@Adám I've discovered recently that the ~ diacritic's sound in Portuguese is unique to it. People who don't speak Portuguese often can't pronounce it, and I actually don't have a clue on how to explain how it's pronounced >.>

@betseg On it...

@totallyhuman yeah, that's kind of it. The problem is the actual pronunciation of it for someone who doesn't speak it natively, a lot like the rl digraph in English.

It's a nasalized vowel, no?

Kudos to anyone who’s able to correctly pronounce my last name :P

7:14 PM
Doom-bra-vah?

@mudkip201 Yes, but not as the a in an, for example.

@J.Sallé I know

@Mr.Xcoder Ecks-code-er. Done. :p

Q: How would you pronoun my (full) username?

uh, of course that's not his last name

7:21 PM
@AdmBorkBork What?

@Mr.Xcoder I've also learned recently that Romanian is really really close to Portuguese. (linguistically speaking)

@J.Sallé well, Romanian is a Romance language

@cairdcoinheringaahing Ugh. Nope :)

@DJMcMayhem I need to beat you to Socratic ;-)

@J.Sallé Indeed it is.

7:24 PM
I don't think that's how you get badges in real life ;-)

@cairdcoinheringaahing cared coin-herring-ah-hing

@mudkip201 yeah, but so are Italian and Spanish, and those are not really close to each other or to Portuguese

no that's totally wrong it's ca-ird coin-herring-aah-ing

@cairdcoinheringaahing cáird coin-hering-áh-híng

@AdmBorkBork Huh, 'cared'? I agree with the second part, but I pronoun the first part as 'care-d'

7:26 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing Kerd Ko-in-hering-aa-hing

Q: "I pronoun or I pronounce"

@J.Sallé eh... not really

One of my friends pronouns it as 'card co-eyen-herring-arh-hing' :P
@Mr.Xcoder In normal english, "pronounce". In TNB english, "pronoun" :P

@Mr.Xcoder '+ce'

@J.Sallé Spanish is much closer to Portuguese than Romanian

7:27 PM
I disagree...

@mudkip201 no it's not.

Where are you from, mudkip? Or more relevantly, what is your main language?
(of course if you want to reveal it, if not just ignore me)

US, and English

That might explain it :P

7:29 PM
s/English/American ;-)
USian?
Statesian

@mudkip201 Mutual intelligibility doesn't mean languages are close to one another or not, linguistically speaking.

@AdmBorkBork Isn't it Usanian?

Historically speaking, Spanish and Portuguese are much closer than Portuguese and Romanian

CMP: Which one do you find harder: Romanian, Portuguese or Chinese?

@Mr.Xcoder Yes

7:31 PM
@Mr.Xcoder I bet I can pronounce your first name :P

@mudkip201 Historically, yes. Structurally, yes. Linguistically, erm.

@Mr.Xcoder what AdmBorkBork said

@Mr.Xcoder French

Ok, revised: Which one do you find less pleasant to hear?

Um...
I've never heard any of them :/

7:33 PM
You've never heard Chinese? I don't believe you!

@Mr.Xcoder What are you defining as linguistically? If spelling counts, then Spanish and Portuguese are very close

@cairdcoinheringaahing It's just like how it's pronounced English, but the i has a slightly different accent.

@Mr.Xcoder yes, definitely

@Mr.Xcoder Well, not enough to judge how it sounds.

@Mr.Xcoder I've read a study a couple years back that put Polish, Chinese and Portuguese at the top 3 most difficult languages to learn/master.

7:34 PM
gtg eat, brb

my name is officially pronounced with a hard g but everyone pronounces it with a soft g
wait thats gif

@Mr.Xcoder I was going to say Vik-Tor, but now I'm thinking Vike-Tor :P

@betseg if you pronounce jif you can burn in hell for all I care.

@betseg Really? I'm always though it was -seg as in segfault.

nah just a gif joke

7:35 PM
Don't you mean a gif goke? :P

uh, do you pronounce your name like bet-sage?

how's sage pronounced

with a soft g (like, dz)

then no

I don't think anybody can even think of pronouncing your name like betsedz, it's just totally awkward
does that really happen where you live?

7:38 PM
I think it's def pronounced "seg"
he was just making a joke about it
doesn't actualyl relate to how his name is pronounced
@betseg also ಠ_ಠ

Everyone knows that Riker's name is pronounced Ree-Kai-Er, right? :P

@EriktheOutgolfer German speakers might pronounce it betsek

thats how its supposed to be pronounced, except not k but hard g

@cairdcoinheringaahing i will come to your house and duct tape posters with the correct IPA on them
@betseg bet-seh-guh?

@cairdcoinheringaahing Actually just Víctor.

7:49 PM
@Riker Oooh, a way to meat another PPCGer in real life :P

nice accent

the b is actually cyrillic so vetseg /s

> meat

@AdmBorkBork One typo I don't want to correct :P

please don't mince others

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

I find it amusing that mincemeat is not the same as minced meat

@cairdcoinheringaahing Kinda like this
BTW why are we discussing pronunciations rn?

@Mr.Xcoder ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Why not?

hahaha you guys are doing great

Hi too :)

7:54 PM
Because we always inevitably do. I think it's because we're such a global community.

@betseg Lowercase b doesn't look like anything in Cyrillic.

shh

Uppercase B does look like Cyrillic V

@Mr.Xcoder Huh. That sounds exactly like one of my friends, who, weirdly is called Victor (he's Russian though)

try mine lol

7:55 PM
@totallyhuman Will do after you try my last name :P

@Mr.Xcoder my fault

@totallyhuman Soo-mant Bask-a-roo-nee?

OH I remember now It started from Joao...

clyp.it/nqicmp41 calvin's hobbies said he cant pronounce this letter in my lastname

^ never got people's problems with pronouncing things

7:56 PM
Totally unrelated: We have 42 people in the room (the most I've ever seen tbh)

the only problem I've had is a rolled R
@cairdcoinheringaahing we used to be like the 2nd most active on SE in general iirc, I don't think that's even close to the room record

@cairdcoinheringaahing so close :o

@totallyhuman I know a lot of Indians :P

@Mr.Xcoder what the heck is your last name tho :p

but do you pronounce your a's right though :P

7:58 PM

@totallyhuman Soo-maant? (Long a)

@cairdcoinheringaahing mine is mispronounced regularly though :/
