12:00 AM
whoa people still remember jolf? :o

yes

numeric input or string?

ooh, nice

original challenge didn't specify

12:02 AM
animation after a couple seconds is good

ok numeric
pretty
@Riker ?
oh lulz

see?

@Mego Not sure why I'm not using Rider. I started the project back when Rider was really unstable, I think I'll just switch to it now.

12:15 AM
@Riker ._.
u betrayed me

12:29 AM
@Maltysen im sorry frendo
I did what I did for my nation and country

12:44 AM
Why does the animation appear? I'm not sure what bit of the code does it

@Neil Oops >_> forgot Charcoal's docs are still terrible

~m_r09d~.yFyE/H9yS00*H~1~1
~Re"Ʀ"*3~2

@muddyfish its a jolf builtin

@ConorO'Brien :| What is this monstrosity

for trolling people

12:45 AM
@Maltysen Pyke has one of those. It's really useful

@ASCII-only what ? it looks nicer than jelly code imo

@ConorO'Brien what language though

Jolf

@ASCII-only Contact is too busy. If you want to check it out, I need to send you a key. Email? If you don't want to post it here, you can send me a note at my last name @ gmail

12:52 AM
@EricTressler ehern.lee@gmail.com

@LuisMendo lol

@ASCII-only oh, I forgot; do you have a windows machine?

that's pretty golfy

@EricTressler Yes :P my current laptop can't run Linux well
@ConorO'Brien :| such a waste, it's pretty much ASCII-only

@EricTressler we should start using public-key encryption to post PMs in chat

12:55 AM
@ASCII-only if I ever make a golfing language that has to rely on a 256-char codepage, please excommunicate me

@ASCII-only it was made in 2015 y'know
@ConorO'Brien LUL

@ConorO'Brien :| why

@ASCII-only ok, I sent it. Thanks for taking a look

it's disgusting and visually unpleasing imo, unusable for any semblance of thought-based programming without external tools like fancy keyboards (thus encouraging a style of "hey I can just copy-paste consecutive builtins" which no doubt increases the vast amount of great quality on this site), fringes on the border between legit code golf and metacodegolf-X by utilizing the whole code page (something I'm sure has never been done so extremely on other golfing sites--even golfscript)
3

1:15 AM
@ATaco how does this happen

@ConorO'Brien ... this is why Charcoal has a verbose mode?
@ConorO'Brien Also is Charcoal really visually unpleasing ;_;

@ASCII-only I assume he's talking about things like Jelly which look like an unattended sheep pen

@Downgoat They're mostly letters with fancy things though

@ASCII-only s̹̰̬̺̳̦ͣ̈́ͣ̊̓ő̟̯͙̝͂ ̙͓͓̑͗̍̿̋̅̚i̓͛s͚ ̒ͫt̝́ͦ̐̆h͈͓̐ͥ̆́͆͒ͩi̿̔̓̽̂̑̑s͍̤

@Downgoat :O jelly is zalgo confirm
@ConorO'Brien How is it on the border... plus a lot if not the majority of them use legit codepages?

1:20 AM
@ASCII-only btw when do you have time to work on VSL

@Downgoat IDK

:((((((
@ASCII-only btw I have question how should I compile like 1 in LLVM

@Downgoat llvm constant?

like if I have:
func foo() { 1; }
what should LLVM output be

@Downgoat replace any call to the function with 1

1:23 AM
wat
we are doing implicit return??????

@Downgoat oh we aren't? oops
@Downgoat remove all call to the function then

@ASCII-only they're different languages as far as I'm concerned
@ASCII-only ok, which codepages were not made specifically for being "golfier"

@ASCII-only already done

@ConorO'Brien CP-1252?

no like how would that function be compiled

1:25 AM
@Downgoat :| it would be optimized out

ಠ_ಠ

@ASCII-only so that's actually/seriously and retina. most golfing langauges nowadays are forced to make extended code pages for their language

like before optimization
what is the raw LLVM output that should happen

depends on the compiler

I think we should have people post the original program that goes into the compiler/interpreter rather than a the code page-translation. If they do post the translation it should be +1 byte for the flag to take in the code-page

1:27 AM
@ConorO'Brien Also SOGL. They aren't forced to, it just makes the code not look like when you open a binary file in notepad

What do you guys think is better for a zoom function: 1) zooming in/out from cursor position, 2) zooming in/out from center of window?

oh wait nevermind using LLIR

@ASCII-only how aren't they? all people want to see nowadays are tidy clusters of characters from lithoanian, japanese, and norwegian currency symbols and say "oh wow this is short +1 bai". language aesthetic is a really big part of designing and answering in a golfing language. people like to be able to feel like the can make connections between some types of characters when scanning through a code golf explanation, which is easy to do with langauges like jelly with sensible command names, but...
hard to do with languages composed of raw bytes and xxd dumps

@ConorO'Brien Exactly
@HelkaHomba Cursor position, more control >_> Powerpoint zooms to selection which is kinda annoying

@ASCII-only Good input.

1:32 AM
@HelkaHomba depends on the application. for infinite-width things like graphs, 2 is better, but for fixed-size things, 1 might be better. although for fine-grained zooming, is better
*2 is better

Say in image editing software (where you have a grid of pixels but finite)

definitely 2, it's so much nicer

Though note that center of window does not necessarily mean the center of the image.

@HelkaHomba cursor definetly
I hate having to pan and you can never be sure if exactly in center

So Dragon says center, Goat says cursor ._.

1:45 AM
vsl>
=== BEGIN LLIR DUMP ===
 ! * "°À #
=== END LLIR DUMP ===
vsl>
@ASCII-only ^ :D I got code to be generate
code doesn't do anything but work and even load stdlib and all

@HelkaHomba #2 is better

see sheep said #2 is better meaning you must do #1 now

Sheeps are softer...

@Downgoat :O

1:54 AM
Wolves are fluffiest

ಠ╭╮ಠ what about dragons

@ConorO'Brien Dragons don't have fur

oh god
I come here only to discover weird furry dragon-foxes

I know lots about fluffy dragons

1:55 AM
@ConorO'Brien What I mean is if it has fur it's not a dragon

@ASCII-only ahem

I concede

wolves > dragons > everything else :P

2:00 AM
I'll take that too however

2:31 AM
@muddyfish biased much

@Riker totally not biased at all, thank you very much

@HyperNeutrino sunless sea is very cool :D come back and do it once you have flying boots/levitation from another soucre
does depend on the map though, one version is really simple w/ parrots and pirates only
another has lava (not good), and another is full of deep ones (much not good)

3:15 AM
what is sunless sea exactly? I should look it up probably as well

@HyperNeutrino A very peculiar lovecraftian exploration game.

@HyperNeutrino It's based on the world of Fallen London, which I reccommend checking out (it's free and also very... unique).

Cool, I'll check it out sometime, maybe in a couple minutes.

They have simillar storytelling methods (though very different gameplay).
@HyperNeutrino There's no action, it's entirely clicking on cards to determine what actions you take.

3:20 AM
Oh it's a mobile app?

There's an app for it, but I haven't tried it.

Oh okay

lol
huh requires account too lazy lol

@HyperNeutrino Just sign in with google or facebook you're probably already signed into one of those two >_>

3:23 AM
oh ok
huh 10/10 took me 2 clicks to get an account

@HyperNeutrino Here's the extend of the gameplay:
Basically, you can hop on, take a few actions, and then do something else for a while.

hm ok

@HyperNeutrino Protip: As soon as you start, click on the "Myself" tab and remove your clothes. Their only effect is -1 persuasive.

wtflol

As you may have noticed, you start in a prison, so your starting clothes aren't exactly great. Yeah... it's a bit weird.

3:28 AM
huh ok
nah personally I find this game a bit boring IMO :P

It's a bit slow at the start, yeah.
It's almost like playing DnD, in a sense.
@HyperNeutrino If that's the case, you'll probably find Sunless Sea boring as well. It may have actuall gameplay, but it's still primarily a game about storytelling.

ah ok.
wait sunless sea is a game ._.

18 mins ago, by Pavel
@HyperNeutrino A very peculiar lovecraftian exploration game.
That's literally the first thing I told you about it.

oh
sorry missed that lol
now I have to look up lovecraft because I don't know what that is either

@HyperNeutrino Wrote Call of Cthulu
That's basically all you need to know about him

3:38 AM
huh
ok :P
I thought sunless sea was a nethack thing because it was brought up in #hardfought and turns out it is a thing lol

It was made by the same guys as Fallen London, actually.
I like it, but then, I play Fallen London

huh interesting
I wonder how Quora would react if I posted a code-golf there. I also wonder if it's been done already :P

wait is someones name here alexander liao

Yes. That is me.
Why?

oh lol
cuz it came up in fallen london

3:49 AM
lol

4 hours later…
7:36 AM
Yay I found a language that beats Jelly in "Coprimes up to N" :-)

Q: Exponent of complex numbers

OkxGiven two integers, which may be negative, zero, or positive, a and b. convert it to a + bi where i is the imaginary number (square root of negative one). Then, raise it to the power of a third (positive integer) input variable, c as to (a + bi)c. You should then end up with something like d + ei...

2 hours later…
9:51 AM
@ASCII-only they can't be that bad, I managed to learn Charcoal quite quickly. 05AB1E or Jelly on the other hand...

@Neil That may be because of the more normal paradigm (well actually it's probably more that Charcoal is an ASCII-art language i.e. no filter and things like that)

@Neil Jelly is definitely not undocumented... 05AB1E is gradually getting slight improvements to the docs, so it's going to be easier to understand soon

@Mr.Xcoder well, Jelly is... Jelly, but 05AB1E should have been easy enough to learn, except I can never find the function I want
I mean, I had a 54-byte 05AB1E answer, but thanks to hours of patient study, and a tiny bit of help from @ASCII-only and @Emigna, I'm now down to 28 bytes, which is almost 50% off

10:10 AM
@Neil I agree that as of now 05AB1E documentation is kinda awful. I am trying to improve it in my spare time, ever since I moved it to the "Wiki" page. Hopefully it will get better.

3 hours later…
12:46 PM
@Mr.Xcoder Is it a publicly editable wiki?

@wizzwizz4 No

@ASCII-only
(By "publicly" I meant "anyone other than Mr. Xcoder".)

@wizzwizz4 Yes, Adnan because he wrote 05AB1E :P

Adnan writes documentation too?

@wizzwizz4 He has written the initial documentation, but I am the one to rewrite it.
:-)

12:55 PM
@Mr.Xcoder Do you want some help?

@wizzwizz4 I cannot give you write access

@Mr.Xcoder Conflict between openness and the secrecy of your actual mission causing you to try to cut yourself off from Earth?

@wizzwizz4 Huh? I don't understand what you are implying. Adnan is the owner of the repository.

@Mr.Xcoder 2001 A Space Odyssey.

Yeah I just don't really understand what you mean by that

1:03 PM
CMC: If you modify constants so that e^pi - pi = 20, how many identities can you get to still work? (You can modify any other constant as necessary.)

I think CMC means Chat Mega Challenge here
4

@Mr.Xcoder Typo.

Dang it...

I'll start - pi changes, e remains the same, the derivative of e^x is still e^x.

@wizzwizz4 :O mods can edit chat messages?

1:18 PM
@Mr.Xcoder To fix typos.
And remove abuse from otherwise constructive messages, remove passwords from messages then nuke the history, etc.

Cool

For every question about what mods can do, the answer is probably "yes, but they'll lose the diamond for it".

ಠ_ಠ (e^π - π) metres west of previously observed location

@Mr.Xcoder The rate of motion is directly proportional to the frequency of observation.
My router keeps dropping packets.

anyway gtg o/

1:21 PM
Bye.

Before I leave, I must leave this message:
Lol
11

@Mr.Xcoder :O You are Hyper's sock confirmed

@ASCII-only ಠ____ಠ A sock with more reputation? (because The main account puts a lot of bounties :P)

@HyperNeutrino Somebody stole your $BYE$.

@Mr.Xcoder I don't see why not

1:25 PM
@ASCII-only Ok, so clearly Dennis is my sock :P

@Mr.Xcoder I'm not pinging Dennis about that again.

@Mr.Xcoder Clearly.

@wizzwizz4 Haha yeah, I remember

Sarcasm is even harder to pick up in plain text than speech!

entire SE got new design before PPCG did?
14

1:30 PM
@betseg ... That is a good point.

i got a star for my first message after weeks?

You got a star for what may potentially be the way we convince the design team to give PPCG a site design.

2:27 PM
@betseg Yeah, they forgot about us :P

I think we programmers shouldn't have kids

JS is weird :P

I just downvoted that -27 question from yesterday because they didn't include windows as a popular OS but included mac as one. ?????

@Christopher2EZ4RTZ There's really no point in downvoting that question anymore. Its bad, we get it, he gets it, we know what not to do. 1 more downvote isn't going to say or change anything

@cairdcoinheringaahing He hasn't asked to get it removed so there is still satisfaction

2:35 PM
what question

-26
Q: Word stays a word after taking away a letter. Repeat

Hubert GrzeskowiakThere is an old, popular riddle: Find an english word with 8 letters that, taken away one letter, creates a new valid word. Repeat that until there is no letters left. Example solution: starting staring string sting sing sin in I Write a script that, given a file with words*, outputs one...

He may have asked to have it removed 50 times, but it won't happen. It has answers, and I don't think he really cares or knows about dissociating the question. The mods won't delete it, and he can't delete so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I bet if he asked they would remove it. I think the 2 answers would be OK with that

@Christopher2EZ4RTZ Also, ugh, windows

@cairdcoinheringaahing ok apple fanboy

2:37 PM
he says while on a Windows computer
:P

The fact that you insult windows while on a windows computer is the reason that world hunger is a thing

It's not my choice to be on a Windows. My sister's using the Mac

Stand up
And walk away
IE  Mac

@Christopher2EZ4RTZ I mean, he could ask the two users to remove their answers, then he could delete it, but the mods won't delete a question because it wasn't well-received

Hang on @Dennis would you remove that challenge if the user flagged and asked?
Also can you trash the convo to remove clutter

2:43 PM
@Christopher2EZ4RTZ From one of my (earlier) flags: "declined - We do not delete challenges by request, as it is unfair to the users who have already posted an answer."

@Christopher2EZ4RTZ What caird said.
@Christopher2EZ4RTZ What convo?

@Dennis The comment conversation

Also ty for telling me that.

@Christopher2EZ4RTZ Talking about a challenge on main probably was the most on topic thing that happened in TNB today, even if it got sidetracked a little.
I tell you what I will remove though.
WTH Y U NO INCLUDE WINDOWS??? WINDOWS > UNIX > LINUX > MAC — Christopher 2EZ 4RTZ 15 mins ago

2:47 PM
:P ok
@Dennis Well I mean TNB doesn't get sidetracked, it gets hit by the off-topic train

@Christopher2EZ4RTZ Demolished more like :P

codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/123782/… and codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/112574/… I can't figure why they are still negative, any ideas on how to fix them?
I understand why they were at first but now now

@Christopher2EZ4RTZ For the first, I think that from "Winning" to the end is very unclear, not to mention the fact that its fairly unclear throughout
@Christopher2EZ4RTZ The second because it is essentially a cat program with a wait for a keypress

._.
@wizzwizz4 ono ;-; mr xcoder is sock confirmed lol
@Mr.Xcoder whoa actually? <-- is rather surprised lol
idk why I use that so much lol
anyway I have to go practise piano now o/ (my BYE messages are always anyway I (gtg | reason) o/)

@HyperNeutrino Do you do exams?

3:50 PM
CMP: If you could improve anything about TIO, what would it be?
I'd add auto-tabbing for Python :P

@cairdcoinheringaahing its UI needs improved.

@ThomasWard How so? I'm genuinely curious

needs less darkness, IMO.
I mean, yes, I'm a chaotic evil envoy of shadowy chaos and darkness but... :P

I kinda like the dark colouring

me too

3:53 PM
i do normally
but when i try and use it when at work and theres an autopowersaving feature that if screen is dark the brightness goes down?
and I can't disable it?
WISHING for alternative colorpatterns :P

grouping langs by family might work
for tio

TBH, there's quite a few things I'd improve (assuming I was capable). Most likely auto-tabbing for Python and an interactive keyboard for languages with an SBCS

like emojicode? 😆

4:12 PM
@betseg Nah, that's just called a phone :P

Nov 8 '16 at 14:24, by arda
@betseg I specifically use an emoji-free keyboard, lol
5

4:47 PM
btw reddit has some nice consistency

._.
@wizzwizz4 Yup, I've taken RCM 6, 8, 9, and 10 so far. I may or may not take ARCT; not sure yet

@ThomasWard Is that a can't can't, or is it a "forbidden to do so" can't?
@HyperNeutrino What's ARCT?
And I thought it only went up to 8...

@wizzwizz4 I forget what it stands for, but it's required to be able to teach piano past level 8
So with my level 8 diploma, I'm permitted to teach piano up to level 4; with level 10, up to level 8, and people with an ARCT diploma can teach anyone (including teaching ARCT)

@HyperNeutrino It sounds like an enabling qualification.

@wizzwizz4 can't can't. It's part of the firmware of the screen and isn't able to be turned off.

5:00 PM
@ThomasWard You could install new firmware, if anyone's programmed any.

@wizzwizz4 It's less of a practical test and more of a performance one.

@HyperNeutrino It still lets you do stuff that you wouldn't otherwise be able to do.

Yeah.

... "permitted to teach piano" That sounds suspiciously dictatorial.

I mean, if you want to be an official teacher in the RCM. Private tutor, sure, nobody would know anyway.
> dictatorial
This is the RCM we're talking about
of course it's dictatorial :P
They place a complete monopoly over all music supplies and probably overcharge for things too.
My parents have probably paid more for my books than the piano itself...

5:03 PM
@HyperNeutrino define("RCM");?

@HyperNeutrino See that's why Trinity is better :P

And the even more annoying thing is that my brother can't use my books because he's 3 years / 4 levels behind me and they changed the entire curriculum so the books are rendered useless ._.
@ThomasWard Royal Conservatory of Music. I think it's a British thing but I'm not sure.

ah
yeah sounds it

@cairdcoinheringaahing define("Trinity");?
(:P)

lel

5:04 PM
@HyperNeutrino Matrix/Religion/Other music exam board

Ah ok

@cairdcoinheringaahing O

wait hold on wtf I was scrolling through my quora page and none of my answers have over about 10 upvotes except this one that has 103... ???

@HyperNeutrino Sounds a lot like SE

5:11 PM
@HyperNeutrino You use Quora? Heretic.

To me quora just seems like disorganized SE run by a bunch of bots that have no idea what they're doing
@wizzwizz4 ;-;
not really much though lol

HERESY

@ThomasWard Would obliterating HyperNeutrino from the entire internet count as mod abuse? ;-D

@wizzwizz4 They've tried, it didn't work
:P

Probably. They don't have the LOIC right now, but...

5:13 PM
Well the SE Development Team did obliterate me from SE and that didn't work very well :P

@HyperNeutrino If only you interacted more with the mod-hammer...

1 min ago, by caird coinheringaahing
@wizzwizz4 They've tried, it didn't work
ninja'd :(

lol
@wizzwizz4 Mr. Laser Eyes has joked about using the hammer before lol

@HyperNeutrino you know the Jelly string decompressor Lynn wrote? I've spent the last two hours trying to make it as optimal as possible :P

@HyperNeutrino i don't use it much though :P

5:16 PM
@HyperNeutrino To be fair, you wouldn't notice if he hadn't been joking.
@cairdcoinheringaahing Did you increase its computational complexity?

@wizzwizz4 That's... true... lol

@wizzwizz4 Yes. Optimal as in it produces the smallest possible compressed string, rather than making it faster

Wait decompressor, or compressor?

@cairdcoinheringaahing Are you going to run around out-golfing Dennis now?

@HyperNeutrino Compressor, my mistake

5:18 PM
Oh okay, I was confused for a moment :P

so was I :P

Anyone up for ~15 mins of JHT?

@wizzwizz4 In kol mols with non-repetitive text, hopefully :P

caird beats jelly

@Mr.Xcoder Yeah, why not?
@wizzwizz4 I wish :P Hopefully that's what Levant will do though :P

5:23 PM
CMC: What effects would /AP/CG/g have on the internet?

It would cause many things to stop making sense

@wizzwizz4 $("html")[0].innerHTML=$("html")[0].innerHTML.replace(/AP/g,"CG"). For one, the chat text box not working

API -> CGI

PPAP -> PPCG

@wizzwizz4 Programming Puzzles and Problems?

5:28 PM
@wizzwizz4 ... :P

@wizzwizz4 Destruction.

@betseg That would be the single biggest problem (unless somebody has a better one).

the first thing that came to my mind as well

CMC: What effects would /ta/tu/g have on the internet?

It may cause a great catustrophe

5:41 PM
@HyperNeutrino Well lose all cgostrophes.
Also, Stuck Overflow with overflow with people who are stuck.

@HyperNeutrino Don't laugh - Programming Puzzles and Code Golf Stuck Exchange will probably go down completely from people who find programming puzzling and want to play golf instead of writing code.

rip PPCG then
(or should I say PPAP?)

@HyperNeutrino Somebody attempted to _un_apply the replacions, didn't they?

yup :P

5:55 PM
Conjecture: A list of positive integers has the following property: The sum of the deltas of the list preceding each element (including itself) is always lower than or equal to the element.

@Mr.Xcoder 0/10 no attribution? :P /s
oh
Conjecture: A list of numbers has the property that the vectorized difference between it and the sums of deltas is a constant list
anyway brb o/

@HyperNeutrino Actually I am dumb and your conjecture is correct.
