18:00
I have a question I was going to post, but I don't want to complete the trifecta :P
triwhat?
is there a third question too?
@EriktheOutgolfer trifecta. Like a collection of 3 things. And no, I was going to post, but put it off for some reason
I know what it means
@EriktheOutgolfer can you give me an approximate byte count for this in Jelly (if you were to do it)?
18:15
going over there :p
@cairdcoinheringaahing Oooh, cool
I feel like it should 8-10? idk
@DJMcMayhem huh no I don't think so
@DJMcMayhem Welp that ambitious. Me and Mr.Xcoder got 20 together
Oh geez
lol
I wasn't even close
I'mma need about tree fiddy
@DJMcMayhem tree fiddy?
18:17
Never mind
btw @cairdcoinheringaahing does leading zero before . (i.e. float doesn't have integral part) count as a 0 digit?
@cairdcoinheringaahing Three-Fifty, maybe?
I think it's referring to the loch ness monster...hence three fifty
@EriktheOutgolfer Checking with my solution
@cairdcoinheringaahing huh?
I just asked if I should count it or not
it's a bit different if I should count it
(or trailing 0 after . in this case e.g. 3.0)
18:19
@EriktheOutgolfer Yeah, but I'm checking if my solution counts it, so that results are consistant
This is waaaaay harder with floats
@EriktheOutgolfer does Jelly implicitly remove the leading 0 from float input?
yes
0.5 doesn't evaluate to 0.5 in jelly
it's two literals 0 .5
@EriktheOutgolfer Yes, it does count as a 0 digit. Which means I have to change my solution ಠ_ಠ
@EriktheOutgolfer Yes that does count as a 0 digit
I can tell you used :(
:p
18:23
I'm thinking about posting this, any feedback?
Android 9 Pineapple Pizza
@ConorO'Brien To be honest, (just my opinion) I think its too similar to DJ's slashes challenge, but I'd let others cast the first dupe-vote, if it were posted.
Hooray, 12 k precisely!
@Mr.Xcoder brb, downvoting
:P
18:25
@cairdcoinheringaahing for what it's worth I've had this in the sandbox for more than a month. Notwithstanding, it's a different question. You did read it right? Not just look at the code?
@cairdcoinheringaahing What? It's completely different
@ConorO'Brien Yes, I'm just stating my opinion. Ignore it if you want.
@cairdcoinheringaahing that's usually what those with a hammer say lol
> I'd let others cast the first dupe-vote
@EriktheOutgolfer Yeah, I say that if I'm unsure about whether it should be closed, because one vote tends to have a domino effect.
then it's not your fault anyways
unless you do it purposefully
is the chain inflicted by the one vote, or by "going with the crowd" notions of others?
18:29
It has a domino effect precisely because people who aren't sure still vote once they see someone else vote
@EriktheOutgolfer on another note, I had to add 11 bytes to my code to handle leading 0 floats (input < 1)
(which is a problem)
@cairdcoinheringaahing I sincerely doubt you understood the question... It's like saying "repeat `` N times" is a duplicate of DJ's challenge.
gtg now bye all
@ConorO'Brien OK, fine. I'm going to step out of this and say that you can do what you want; its your challenge.
18:30
@trichoplax then the blame goes to the other people since you shouldn't vote if you're not sure right?
Agreed - the blame goes to anyone who voted while unsure
@cairdcoinheringaahing thank you for the permission
@cairdcoinheringaahing 13 bytes
I didn't look at your submissions by the way
@DJMcMayhem Returns 2 for 617283945
18:34
@DJMcMayhem It only needs to be doubled once
That's stupid
removes leading 0's
Combining mine and yours, I have 27 bytes. Should I show or not?
Nevermind, didn't work for 123456.7890
Q: Are there any numbers which can't be doubled until all 10 digits are used at least once?
hmmm
0
not what you meant tho
18:46
Should I ask that in the Maths room or not? I'm not sure if that would be too basic
I don't know how to prove it but I imagine that's the only one (zero, I mean)
@cairdcoinheringaahing You can give it a go in the maths chatroom
Maybe a clue here:

Q: Show that there are infinitely many powers of two starting with the digit 7

user424290This is a contest math problem which I was not able to solve. A hint toward the solution would be helpful as well. Problem: Show that there are infinitely many powers of 2 starting with the digit 7. Thanks in advance.

@HyperNeutrino Now ≥ 300 :D
Well, I've released the mathematicians :P (no offence intended)
18:56
@cairdcoinheringaahing I'd argue that making it support floats is a terrible design choice because it opens up lots of ambiguities. For example, you could say that 123456789 is equivalent to 123456789.0, so that should give 0, and you could also say that 0.123456789 is equivalent to .123456789, so that still needs to double
It's so much ridiculously simpler if you could just stick with ints
It's just an obnoxious edge case
it's also completely redundant, since you can just multiply the decimal out
any sql gurus in here
SQL scares me a little
@ConorO'Brien Except that will remove any leading zeroes, which is another (much more) annoying edge case
18:59
@Poke I know LINQ, does that count?
leading zeroes?
Trying to determine the main difference between a unique index and a unique constraint on a single column
@Pavel The shouting can be quite frightening :P
@ConorO'Brien If you just multiply out, then an input like 0.123456789 will give the wrong result (which is a terrible design choice IMO)
oh
I mean the leading zero isn't technically part of the digits
19:00
@DJMcMayhem @ConorO'Brien Thanks for the advice, challenge spec changed.
@ConorO'Brien Yes, but caird is arguing that it is
@cairdcoinheringaahing Oh, cool
not anymore it seems lol
@ConorO'Brien I am sorry if I came off in a bad light earlier, I was simply trying to help.
So where is the challenge spec? I'd like to answer it now
@cairdcoinheringaahing nonono I didn't think so, I was just confused and am honestly tired
19:01
@DJMcMayhem Typing up on phone atm
And are we doing last integer, or number of doubles?
Oh, ok
@DJMcMayhem Number of doubles.
@ConorO'Brien OK, just checking as this seemed a little passive aggressive and I wanted to make sure that you weren't offended or anything.
oh
I was ticked there lol I forgot about that
no harm done
Regarding this I could just make a brute forcer :P
Oh yeah, you could totally brute force all integers
19:04
@DJMcMayhem Without TIO, and a quantum computer, easily :D
do we have any test cases for the question
@ConorO'Brien Yes, but I'm reluctant to give any in chat, given that it does kind of give people here a head start on solving it. Try 2 => 67 if you really want one.
Wait, are you going to main?
@DJMcMayhem Yeah, just need some numbers for test cases. hint hint :P
Sweet
I think it's a cool idea
1234567890 --> 0
617283945 --> 1
2 --> 67
100 --> 51
42 --> 55
19:08
wait how is 2 67? It's not 15?
oh wait is it until a number has all the digits
@DJMcMayhem Thanks. I'm terrible at thinking of corner cases for test cases
Also, potential edge case: < 1 should never be given as input
> Given a positive integer greater than 0
Covered.
> Given a positive integer that is positive...
@DJMcMayhem Mhm. Just to make sure :P
19:11
given an integer greater than 0
Are you positive it's a positive integer?
@AdmBorkBork As positive as a proton
Also, any suggestions for a name?
Pandigital doubling
Aaand, posted!
Guess the place/country/whatever
19:17
@DJMcMayhem so you found it I guess? :P
Yeah, but it wasn't on the home page for some reason /shrug
@LeakyNun Random guess, but Netherlands?
@cairdcoinheringaahing guess again :P
people's guesses are interesting
@LeakyNun Can you give me a link?
:40007016 ಠ_ಠ As in to the Google Maps page?
@cairdcoinheringaahing of course not :P
or else it wouldn't be a guess
19:27
@LeakyNun Damn. Should've know you wouldn't have fallen for that :P
Northeastern China
@AdmBorkBork close
surprisingly close
@LeakyNun Uulaanbaataar or how ever it's spelt?
@cairdcoinheringaahing nope, that's farther
@LeakyNun Korea?
North Korea?
19:28
@cairdcoinheringaahing which?
@cairdcoinheringaahing bingo
no, it isn't Pyongyang

Q: Pandigital Doubling

caird coinheringaahingInspired by this CMC Given a positive integer greater than 0, perform the following operation on it: If all ten single digits (1234567890) are in the number at least once, output the count and exit the program Otherwise, double the number and repeat, incrementing the count. The count starts ...

it's just a random place inside NK
@LeakyNun Have a go at this
19:31
lol, my first one had a sign on the side of the road stating "East Tennessee Crossing Byway"
I got within 50 miles :D
All mine has is a sign saying "Dinosaur Trail" ಠ_ಠ
And it was in the middle of Canada. Too bad Australia isn't closer to North America
for the first one (Sweden) I saw some indonesian words and some signs with icelandic letters and I'm thoroughly confused
@AdmBorkBork Wait, for real? How?
19:39
I saw restorang and kebab
@cairdcoinheringaahing There was literally a sign saying "Woodlands Operation Centre" ... so I punched that into Google and boom, map of the location.
@AdmBorkBork lol cheater
If I would've street view'd, I probably could've gotten within feet
I wonder what country this is:
@cairdcoinheringaahing lol I also saw an american flag in one of my rounds
19:41
How is that cheating? I used what information they gave me.
Hah! I have a phone number in mine!
Got it. Carlsbad, NM.
@cairdcoinheringaahing I've been there. Neat caverns.
ಠ_ಠ Google lied to me. It was Santa Fe.
I've been there, too. They have regulations in place preventing skyscrapers, so every building in the city is like at most two or three stories.
19:46
That's a nifty game.
Also, I found a non-blurred numberplate. Isn't that grounds for suing?
> Your guess was 41m (44.8 yd) from the correct location.
Nice
My first round of my second game has me on some bicycle path somewhere :-/
@AdmBorkBork imgur.com/a/6WFLp
How about that? :P
Well, it's someplace very flat
Colorado. 20 miles outside Denver.
19:54
Yep, that place is pretty flat
Dang, 384 yards
Should we create a new room for this, or not? I feel like we're dominating an otherwise busy TNB :P
12478 ... but I'm done. Back to work.
Fun game, though. I wouldn't mind a room for it.
@AdmBorkBork More Powershell golfing?
More PowerShell non-golfing.
20:17
@AdmBorkBork Totally. All those mountains and stuff
Eastern Colorado is right next to Kansas and Nebraska, which are pretty dang flat. Once you get out of the Rockies, there's not much elevation change. landdevelopment.us/map-of-united-states-topographical.html
I love the road I just landed on on the Guesser: "Bosstraat"
@cairdcoinheringaahing I got 102km on first guess :D
This game is always to best to rediscover every month
20:26
@HelkaHomba The best I've got is 40m by googling the pub I landed outside of :P
@Stephen Minecraft?
@cairdcoinheringaahing No, the one you guys are talking about, GeoGuessr
@Stephen Yes, it is quite fun :P
Congrats to @Qutrix to the message number 40000000
@flawr It really bugs me that he didn't know it was 40m :P
@flawr Beat you to it. :P
4 hours ago, by El'endia Starman
This is message 40000000:
20:33
Welp, I have to leave. Toodles! o/
@flawr It's fun trying to remember my Russian from 17 years ago and sound out the word. I don't remember what it means, but according to Google my pronunciation was correct.
@flawr lulz, it was a fitting response to folks telling him the message number
:)
@AdmBorkBork what did you google to get the pronunciation but not the translation
@Poke s/don't/didn't
20:37
roger
@AdmBorkBork dodn't?
I dodn't know what you'res talking about
That's even worse. :-/
Has anyone else ever gone to check the very first user to chat here?
I believe it was CJY
20:40
If it's not "Hello, World!" I am going to be very disappointed.
in Chat feedback, Oct 18 '10 at 9:14, by Feeds
All feedback welcome!
Jan 28 '11 at 4:38, by Chris Jester-Young
tap tap tap Anybody here?
@AdmBorkBork Prepare to be disappointed
Boo-urns.
@cairdcoinheringaahing Yes. Many times I'm sure. :P
20:42
I have to say, reading the chat reactions to some revolutionary questions (code trolling, underhanded, showcase etc) is quite funny.
Also, when (if) I reach 8128 rep, it must never change, because it will be perfect.
It's probably easier to stay constantly at 6
Although less good
Wait Alex A. is back? :D :D :D
As of now, Joe Z. has asked the top 2 most voted questions on the site
@HyperNeutrino So is Geobits :D
20:56
:D
@cairdcoinheringaahing And 3 of the top 6
3 of the top 4 if you get rid of the Community Wiki and the Closed questions
@HyperNeutrino Doesn't seem to be true
Well sure, but not here in chat.
Clearly Tetris GoL brought them back :P
21:01
@JoeZ needs to update the top of his description of his tetris question in his clock question :)
@HyperNeutrino I always figured he was always semi-active
i.e. modqueue n similar
just not posting
yeah
but last seen doesn't care about posts (then again background things often aren't logged and aren't visible to the community)
@Riker Before just now (1 hour again) he was last seen Jun 4th
hm, nvm then
21:13
@ASCII-only 30 min kick from caps so might as well :P
I need a challenge to answer in brain-flak @HyperNeutrino ideas?
Wait
You're not the brainflak person XD
lol
21:29
wut lol
Wait are you
did I seem like the brainflak person
that's DJ/WW
I realize that
I made Brain-Flex which can run Brain-Flak, Brain-Flueue, and several other arbitrary ones :P
@Christopher2EZ4RTZ Hmm, lemme think
How much of a challenge do you want?
21:30
Well I am bad at brainflak so a simple one
Or a medium challenge (one that makes me think)
Do you want an actual challenge to answer, or just something for the fun of it?
Either is fine (I do want a actual challenge more but if you don't know of one a fun thing is fine )
Just trying to get good
How about this one?
11
Q: Skip like a frog!

UpgoatGiven an array of non-negative integers, your task is to only keep certain elements of it, as described below. Let's say the array is [1, 3, 2, 4, 11, 5, 2, 0, 13, 10, 1]. First get the first element of the array, n. Keep the first n elements and discard the next one (discard the n+1th). The n...

It might be waaaay harder than I thought cause I haven't tried it, but it might be easyish
Not sure yet
Lots of stack manipulation
I will do it
I am actually installing ruby so I can actually run BF without TIO XD
oh I see a method for this
wait I misinterpreted the challenge
21:36
@DJMcMayhem thanks! I will most likely be in the third stack soon XD
@Christopher2EZ4RTZ ... You can write an interpreter in any language
@Christopher2EZ4RTZ huh?
@ASCII-only Yes, but the official brain-flak interpreter is in Ruby
I picked Ruby cause I'd been wanting to learn it for a while, and implementing an easy-ish esolang seemed like a good oppurtunity
To this day, it's the only thing I've written in ruby, lol
@ASCII-only click the reply
@El'endiaStarman oh hey you're in TNB again
He has been here for a while :P
21:38
@DJMcMayhem Hints for comparison in Brain-Flak?
(Like a < b)
@DJMcMayhem but. Aren't almost all the other interpreters faster
@Pavel It is in rep gain :P
@Christopher2EZ4RTZ I just got back online
I am the #1 rep earner this week :DD
@ASCII-only Definitely. Ruby has a lot of overhead, and doesn't do any optimizing. Crane-flak and haskell both have waaaay less overhead, and WW's next haskell one is supposed to optimize the crap out of it
@HyperNeutrino Oh man, that's really hard
21:40
@DJMcMayhem well you can make a really fast one in Ruby too
So now I need haskell XD
TBH, I've never directly implemented that myself, I typically just use one from the wiki
Pretty sure most of the overhead is because it wasn't done too well >_>
@DJMcMayhem so I'm guessing that that's not how I'm meant to do this challenge? :P
21:41
idk
I haven't even tried it or anything
CMC: in BF do A>B
well a < b <=> a - b < 0
21:42
I just realized one problem I was having in BF can be solved ez pz with <...>
Like IIRC the way it was interpreted looked pretty slow
@Christopher2EZ4RTZ ({}[{}])([({}<(())>)](<>))({({}())<>}{}())<>{}{}<>{({}<({}<>)>[()])}{} ripped most of it off of the wiki
@Christopher2EZ4RTZ >[.<.>]
@Christopher2EZ4RTZ Haha, nice. <...> are super valuable. What was it?
@DJMcMayhem It was a if(!=0)do this
@DJMcMayhem that is why I hate mini-flak (despite learning that first XD)
21:44
@Christopher2EZ4RTZ Mini-flak can do the same thing. It just isn't as convenient
<...> can be replaced with (((...))[{}]) right?
Instead of <...>, you can do (...)[{}]
Close
oh it's a lot simpler than I thought
:P
wait I need to remove outside brackets otherwise it pushes it :P
wait is Mini-Flak just Brain-Flak without <>?
Yeah, because (...) evaluates to ..., and then pushes it, but [{}] pops it off and then evaluates to 0 - ..., and clearly ... + -... == 0
@DJMcMayhem Yeah
21:45
ah ok
Anyways i gtg to dinner
Bye o/
@HyperNeutrino Brain-flak without <...>, <>, or [] (it still has [...] though)
ah ok
wait no stack height :(
wait so it only has one stack?
Yes and yes
So it's not exactly a convenient language to use
21:47
ah ok
but still T-C?
Apparently
huh
also every time I see the Tentree logo it reminds me of TIO lol
ok rip I have no idea how to do this challenge in BrainFlak :( :P
Haha, sorry
I can pick an easier one
Have you done increments?
nope
increments as in deltas as in differences as in Jelly's I right?
Exactly
21:51
ok thanks
i'll try it rn
CMC: given a floating point number, output "Not Valid" if the number is not between 0 and 100 inclusive, "Valid" otherwise. (note, this is from a previous assignment in my CS class, already done.)
@ConorO'Brien Will it always be >=0?
nope
any valid floating point within the float/double/your languages range
@DJMcMayhem I tried []{<{}>({}[({})]<>)<>[]}<> but it's behaving in a manner I don't quite get. For 1 3 7 5 it gave 5 -4. Do you have any idea what this does?
