A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

carusocomputingSeventy Seven Sevens Given a number n list the numbers that can be created by multiplying numbers consisting of only sevens of length n or less. A161145 is close to this challenge, however, you will NOT be including the 7, 77, 777, 7777, 77777, etc.. Examples n=1 would result in: 7*7=49 f(1)...

@Phoenix Who are you?
Pavel
CMC: find the first user in the users list by reputation whose top tag is not code-golf
@BusinessCat uhh
I'm actually doing it in bf D:
17:07
Does such a user exist?
Ooh, competition
@betseg ಠ_ಠ And I just came up with the algorithm
I started about 20 min ago :p
I was doing it in Retina
17:09
@KritixiLithos I believe you're right
trichoplax appears to be 10th on this list, and all of these top ten have popularity-contest as their top tag
I wonder if anybody's top tag is neither of these...
Nevermind, dim's is code-challenge
Yeah, but dim has like 5k rep from a single answer
They're a little bit of an exception
True
Rainbolt's is... king-of-the-hill?
Interesting
Once you get to page 7 there's a bunch with e.g. king-of-the-hill, graphical-output, number...
I wonder who has the most tag badges
Probably either Martin or Dennis
@Phoenix Is it ok if there's some extra null bytes at the end of the output?
17:18
Sure
Null bytes in a BF program, this reminds me of the collaborative pbrain answer of betseg and me
@KritixiLithos wait, what?
what's A do? isn't it "append"?
Yes, it moves the cursor to the end of the line
So that the program starts in insert mode, but I think you can even remove it
@Phoenix does Wise count?
ah, I see what you mean
that works :D thanks!
done, thanks
17:28
I actually meant that you should be able to remove the :o a
@DJMcMayhem not at the moment
if you assume that the buffer will contain the input on startup
(but you still save bytes)
@KritixiLithos ah, I see, that works even better :D

Q: Team of The Hill!

programmer5000This challenge was inspired by @HelkaHomba's excellent challenge Red vs. Blue - Pixel Team Battlebots. That challenge was probably the best one I've seen on this site. Ever. My challenge is still a lot different, but HelkaHomba deserves credit for the inspiration. Overview This is a team king...

@Riker ^
17:38
@Riker are you here?
Never mind

@Riker can you judge if this is valid?

@KritixiLithos thanks for the vim help :D
Everyone I know is inactive these days...
@WheatWizard I think it's on the wiki page of the github
Oh yeah I forgot about that thanks
I'm working on a way to reverse the stack using that
18:45
add 2 0s to bottom
Swap
While(top not 0){
	throw to bottom
	swap
}
bring to top
while(top not 0{
	bring to top
}
throw to bottom
repeat until there is a 0 on top

19:08
Anyway gtg now. See you all later!
wowsers styling scrollbars with css is a pain
the chrome dev tools only help a little bit
Well it isn't on the standards
i know
but sometimes you as the developer are not the final say in how something looks
unfortunate
19:23
What? Surely that's not true. The developer is always in charge of design and layout.
not if you want to keep your job >.<
but yes I suppose so
Keeping a job is overrated.
While that may be true, losing it over something as small as scrollbar styling isn't worth it.
Keeping a job, making money, buying foods, staying alive are overrated?
Yes, you're going to spend the money anway, you're pooping the food out again anyway, and you're going to die anyway.
19:31
@betseg In the end, it doesn't even matter.
Despite how hard you may have tried
@Geobits All you bots think alike
Besides, keeping a "regular" job is hardly the only way to survive. It's just the easiest.

Q: Largest Increasing Subsequence

Mickey JackWe define an increasing string as one which has characters in increasing order i.e. a0a1a2 a has a0<a1<a2<a3..<an. You are given an input string which might not satisfy this property, so your goal is to find the largest subsequence from it which is increasing string. In case multiple strings can ...

And most people are afraid to make that leap.
19:33
...says Geobits, the contract killer. downvoter.
What leap?
leap of faith
leap of faith into what?
@KritixiLithos The leap of quitting your job and finding something that you both want to do and allows you to survive and/or thrive.
It ain't easy
@flawr but you can't golf then
19:34
@betseg I like the way you think
@betseg you can golf your life
3
Golfing is a good way to diet too. Just cut down your bites >_>
7
Well depends whether you take ascii-bites or unicode-bites.
I'd think you want to reduce them either way.
19:37
@Geobits *groans*
@betseg Thank you
Like I said before:
6 hours ago, by Geobits
You are learning, young one, but you have yet to learn that the value in puns comes from the groans and grimaces, not from the karma.
Watch out for those nibbles though, they're bigger than you think
There's just 2 in a whole bite!
My last Nethack death was due to a maggot
@Geobits this caused a heart stutter...
@JanDvorak Sounds like a larvaly way to die.
19:48
Carrion with the puns
Oh no
Apr 18 '16 at 1:23, by Downgoat
@Geobits are we going to start doing this aviary day?
To be fair, that was over a year ago :P
@MistahFiggins of corpse
You are going to be the death of me
Don't stop now, you're killin it
19:50
aha he took the bait
They always do :D
Baiter than nothing
In a sense, puns are golfing. You tell more in less.
was going to make a decompose pun by using it instead of discompose but both kinda make sense in this punchain. creepy
2 meanings in 1 sentence

Q: Get a random n digit number with unique digits and first not a 0

Roman GräfI read this question and thought it would make a nice challenge. Task Give an input 0<n<10 generate a random number with exactly n digits the first not a 0 so f(n)>10**(n-1)-1 unique digits Winning criteria This is code-golf so shortest code wins. Random I mean evenly distributed rand...

@Riker The bounty ad is failing again.
@NewMainPosts I think this is ready for re-opening
Darn unrelated ninja messages, why am I always a victim
I meant to post all of my past messages one after the other in sequence. Darn ninjas.
Get a room. :P
Bounty ad is back...
I feel like we should just get rid of the bounty ad.
user165474

Every time I eat cashews, or think about cashews, this song plays in my head.
ah ok
20:51
Let me guess before clicking. Did you know that cashews come from a fruit? Aka the viral song
Wow... so I just wrote a submission for the new challenge which stores whether it's come across each digit in a binary number (since it needs to keep track of digits 0-9, it can be in the range 0-1023, or 0b0000000000-0b1111111111), and the first time I tested it I got an output of 1023
@Christopher it's under arguments. Hit add to add a new flag
@WheatWizard Thanks
My immediate thought was "oh god, how have I messed up this time?"
But it actually does work
21:08
Argh, can
't wait another minute for Steam to download Factorio 0.15
I am working on a golf-lang, and am therefore wondering the following: what are some common strings used in code-golf? Also, is it worth it to include "Hello, world!"?
1. Use a dictionary with lookup 2. no
The 2nd is often not allowed and viewed as trivial and boring
FWIW if you're challenge pivots around printing Hello, World! it's probably bad and off-topic
having a constant for Hello, World! is fine, and not often discouraged.
QWERTY could be a useful one
Like ["qwertyuiop","asdfghjkl","zxcvbnm"]
Eh, I'd most likely close most keyboard challenges as dupes of existing ones
21:15
@BusinessCat I have never seen any of those strings used in an answer...
I didn't understand why i was getting an error on TIO. I had args open without any args
Why is list[i].Property = something invalid C#
There's a few keyboard related challenges
Jelly has a QWERTY builtin
CMC: given n, for 0..n, output (n+1)^2-n^2
21:20
inclusive or exclusive?
Doesn't matter
Wait that is just n*2+1 >_>
<_<
FWIW :>tpo in stacked
RḤ’ in Jelly
2*+ in FOG
((1:+):*) in cheddar
21:34
this should probably be deleted, as it's not a programmign language by our definition
@Downgoat ,[>++<-]>+. in BF with numeric I/O
@Riker wait what
gone now
we're allowed to answer in non programming languages...
it wasn't a moment ago
wait, shit

is this in réponse to me!
sigh
@Downgoat yes and uh tha'ts not how you spell that
Sorry autocorrect

Conor O'BrienExit code string output You must write a program or function that, when given a string S of N printable ASCII characters†, outputs a program that will exit with exit code C, where C is the ASCII codepoint at position 0 in S. It will additionally output a program P, such that, when run, it exits ...

@ConorO'Brien if the language has escape sequences and string includes "\n" then what should the program do? Return \ and n?
it's a string
idk why you're asking?
If you say it should return \ and 0, it'll make a lot Lang's unusable
I'm sorry what?
Autocorrect :(
It'll make a lot langs unusable for the challenge
21:54
I still have no idea what your complaint is...
Asking if \n should return from 2 different programs
a newline will never be given to the program
22:26
@Riker wait what but what
@ASCII-only is it OK if I redo the nodetypes
@ASCII-only can each node be its own class?
also can you add a position parameter to the Node so we can track those
@Mendeleev Hi
22:57
@Downgoat wat
23:17
Everything is quite :(
You know Brain-Flak?
Somewhat
I know how it works, less about how to golf it effectively.
({}([{}] ([{}...]) ([{}]))([{}])) that lets you manipulate the 3rd stack item
I wrote it. Learned it today :P
Trying to golf it
@Christopher I believe @WheatWizard is go-to person for brain-flak golfing
@TuxCopter if I use valoir with direct object, does it change meaning like with se?
23:25
Yeah but he won't be until 10
His laptop died early on
23:45
@Mendeleev say, did you ever actually finish Tomato?
23:59
Question: can someone here delete a repo on github?
