@trichoplax I just fixed the consonant alteration thing and it sounds like it's from another language: Nlid, Arep, Atnev, Ehked
I wish there were more metagolf challenges...
@Qwerp-Derp make one
I've already made one
Two, in fact
Thinkin' of making one more
@Qwerp-Derp Why does your background color depend on size?
00:08
I honestly have no clue
Because the image is transparent, i guess
So is @Geobits I think but I haven't seen that
Also I'm coding this in notepad because too lazy to open editor

Brute-force-search coding meaning you code according to google snippets, or you outsource to busy beavers?
@HWalters I code by trying every method possible; and I have a huge cache

My brain's working memory is so small programs leak memory all the damn time.

I'm working on my meta-programming KOTH controller, and I'm wondering whether each bot should be assigned a home base, or if every bot should be allowed to use every base.
The board game used the former, but the latter might make the game easier/simpler.
There was also Omsos, Obuh, Iewis, Undtan from earlier
@PhiNotPi 2
00:25
I've decided on the free-for-all arena format.
@PhiNotPi If a bot is not bound to a single base, does the number of bases even need to match the number of bots?
All your base belong to us.
No, it could be any other number, as long as it varies proportionally.
I guess multiple bases will make the game shorter if you have a large number of bots, which sounds important if you need to run lots of games for averaging
Otherwise the bot has to travel to where there are crystals, and then all the way back to its only base
What game is this?
00:34
Twin Tin Bots is a 2014 board game designed by Philippe Keyaerts and published by Flatlined Games. == Rules == Twin Tin Bots is a game for two to six players, about programming robots, in order to use them to gather and collect valuable crystals. The game is played on a hexagonal grid. Each player receives two robots and a command base. These are placed in specific positions on the grid. A number of crystals is also placed in specific positions on the grid. The crystals come in three colours: blue, green and pink. Blue crystals are worth 2 points, green crystals are worth 3 points and pink crystals...
Phi's KotH inspired by this
@trichoplax Woah, the board game is already about programming
That's what makes the KotH about meta-programming :)
@HWalters if you run it with the -d flag, then yes. Otherwise it uses an embedded and invisible nvim

Hi, 19B! I posted a fun little challenge to anarchy golf here. Enjoy ^◡^
4
> exec is denied
what did exec do to you?
00:57
That means you can’t beat all the C solutions by submitting main(){system("perl ...");}
@ConorO'Brien Use the rejudge feature to appeal exec
@HWalters oh cool
I've never done anarchy, probably because I'm a mediocre golfer
@Lynn that makes sense
@Lynn Wow they support a lot of languages
I'm on windows. How can I test that my script runs well with their setup?
@Lynn Is this judged overall or per language?
01:02
export HOME=/tmp
exec /golf/local/j602/bin/jconsole $1
e.g. how do I test this?
("You can't beat all C solutions by ..." seems to imply per language?)
Can you boot into Linux from a USB stick?
Well, you can submit your code and it will show you your output
@HWalters Both
@trichoplax no, I prefer wearing sneakers
:P I have no idea
01:04
Is anyone commapillaring?
@ConorO'Brien Notably outputting stuff in J on anagol is tricky and I stay away from it ._. I guess you use !:, but sometimes you can use wd (??)
@Lynn surely echo works fine?
@ConorO'Brien I tried Porteus recently. You save it onto a USB stick, then you reboot the computer from the USB stick and it copies the whole operating system into RAM, so you don't need to touch the hard drive at all.
whoa, that sounds cool
Oh, yup. but wd 1 also prints 1 and I’m not sure why.
01:05
I don't seem wd in my J scope.
What does "exec denied" mean for, say, bash? (Is this pure bash?)
@ConorO'Brien I needed to write an SD card image for the Raspberry Pi OS and the program to do it wouldn't work with Windows 10, so I booted into Porteus and in Linux it's just a command line instruction - didn't need a program at all.
In Bash I think exec is always allowed, or something? And there’s also “Bash (builtins)” where it isn’t, and you have to use, well, Bash builtins

Given a large network of AND, OR, XOR, and NOT gates, determine the fewest true inputs needed to output true
NP-Complete much?
Is it? That's why I ask.
I should note that there are no loops in the network
In computer science, the Boolean Satisfiability Problem (sometimes called Propositional Satisfiability Problem and abbreviated as SATISFIABILITY or SAT) is the problem of determining if there exists an interpretation that satisfies a given Boolean formula. In other words, it asks whether the variables of a given Boolean formula can be consistently replaced by the values TRUE or FALSE in such a way that the formula evaluates to TRUE. If this is the case, the formula is called satisfiable. On the other hand, if no such assignment exists, the function expressed by the formula is FALSE for all possible...
The problem is NP-complete even when the question is "does a solution exist" and rather extensive restrictions are placed on how the logic gates are connected.
> SAT was the first known NP-complete problem, as proved by Stephen Cook at the University of Toronto in 1971[2] and independently by Leonid Levin at the National Academy of Sciences in 1973.[3] Until that time, the concept of an NP-complete problem did not even exist.
Well then :P
04:11
Just XOR is easier though
Just NOT is even easier.
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Speaking of games, is Undertale worth it?
I'm trying to decide between two alternative editing rules for my KOTH: (1) More true to the original: On your turn, you may insert, delete, or replace any single token in your command sequence. You also have the additional option of erasing your entire command sequence as a "kill switch." (2) Simplified but more permissive: You may optionally delete any number of tokens, and then optionally insert one.
@Calvin'sHobbies Depends. Have you ever played Earthbound?
04:18
or similar JRPGs
@Calvin'sHobbies Absolutely
Trying to identify if it would be your cup of tea :P It's pretty quirky

Oh my yes absolutely
More so than most games

I would play the demo first
Just to give you a feel for it
@quartata I don't think so. Good reviews make me want to try it but it being 2d (right?) kinda puts me off

@PhiNotPi not having played the game, my priorities usually are: 1.Which one would be easier to explain? 2. Which one leads to more viable strategies? 3. Which one leads to a simpler API?
most games of its style are

04:25
huh. Cavestory looks kinda like downwell
Or actually, downwell looks like cavestory meets (meats?) super meat boy

@Qwerp-Derp Already have it (a gift) but I haven't played it yet
04:28
@Qwerp-Derp 3-SAT means satisfying a Boolean formula in conjuncitve normal form with 3 variables per clause like this: x or y or z and y or w or z and ...
Teslagrad is a good game
The heck is conjunctive normal form
I'm still making my way through the castle trying to figure out what's going on, but I like the puzzles
A conjunction of disjuncts of course!
So conjunction is AND
disjunction is OR
04:29
Or clauses deliminated by ands
Dammit why are there two separate names for the same thing in computer science and logic
@Sherlock9 That looks Interesting. It reminds me of mark of the ninja
Any of the "Don't Starve"s?

Huh. A question is topping HNQ right now.
Also, has anyone played Dishonored 2? The $60 price tag is making my wallet shake

I still want to buy it, but I'm trying to get word of mouth on how good it is

It's sad how often those come up
I never have Rp. 778,000 to just spend on a game. I'm pinning my hopes on the Winter Sale, else I'll go buy other things

It kind of boggles my mind how much Steam (appeared to have) caused the prices of modern games to shift. $10 and $20 triple A games were unheard of in dinosaur times
I still need to make time to play Skyrim. And about two thirds of the other games on my list
@Sherlock9 I wish I had 778000 of any USD denomination ._.
Pennies would be hard to convert, even in banks
You can roll them up and trade 'em
Looking for an MMO idle game
Probs wouldn't be on steam
04:37
@DJMcMayhem I have not played Starbound much, but, like other sandbox style games, I gather that it's better with friends.
@Sherlock9 I was in Indonesia and I saw 1AUD to 8,800RP as a conversion...
The USD:IDR exchange rate is about 13,500
@Qwerp-Derp Idle game?
Incremental game
Like a clicker?
So like Clicker Heroes or Tap Titans (if any of you guys have played that)
Yup
MMO with clicker elements
and idle elements
04:41
Nothing comes to mind. From a game developer's perspective, I would think that the exponential growth rates would unbalance most MMO elements
@DJMcMayhem SHENZHEN I/O?
Ah I need to get back into Zachtronics games. I still have some levels in TIS-100 to figure out
Not to mention Spacechem, where making ammonia baffled me before.
And all of the others that I should buy at some point
Re:polyglots tips, I wish I could FGITW in a few now but too bad I'm out :/
And for Zach, yeah I have some Spacechem and Infinifactory to finish myself...
@Qwerp-Derp Oh I just realized! When were you in Indonesia?
A long time ago
04:51
@Sp3000 The Spacechem loops make my head hurt :D
Ah, if you are ever in Jakarta, perhaps we can meet up
It was like a few years ago in Bali
I got really sick there, I don't have good memories of that place
Additional note the current AUD:IDR exchange rate is about 10,000
Ah, that's too bad
can someone explain the difference between DNS hostname and domain? Like http://blah.ddns.net is a hostname but http://www.blah.ddns.net is a domain. But technically I can connect to both over my browser and view the apache webpage associated with the server. @DJMcMayhem @El'endiaStarman after getting through the first 2 levels, had to go to dinner and then sleep

ugh anyone know where I could get a free domain name?
I don't care if it has one of those weird .tk or whatever instead of .com, I just need a domain
with a www.
sites like dot.tk/en/index.html?lang=en aren't working
@AshwinGupta You can make a free heroku app like ppcgmc.herokuapp.com
@Calvin'sHobbies yeah but that doesn't have a www.
I can't configure it with apache virtual host
I'm hosting my own web server
I've already got one like that: ashwingupta.ddns.net
@AshwinGupta idk a lot about web servers but is the www that important? stackoverflow.com/questions/486621/…
ugh idk!!! I don't get why this isn't working my apache config seems right. I figured it was that.
@Calvin'sHobbies one thing though, which may be an unrelated problem, if you go to my site (ashwingupta.ddns.net) then you will see that it actually changes the url in the browser url box to my ip. Why is that? I want it to just say ashwingupta.ddns.net like yours
05:21
@AshwinGupta I saw that. I bet you could use heroku to mirror to there or something, but again I'm no expert
@Calvin'sHobbies ok, I'll try that. I have to host it myself though since I'm using shell_exec w/ my php code and its dependant on my system.
I mean, you could just put it in a big iframe :P
Note: That may be terrible security advice

i have an input
can be like 3x3 or x3
i should get a=3 b=3 or a=0 b=3
i cant use sscanf()
what do i do
I am not good in C/C++, but here's a suggestion: cin>>input;
ಠ_ಠ
@KritixiLithos then i cant have 3 or 0 or something i have 3x3
input should be a string, then you can use regex to split the input at "x" so that you get the numbers
Regex is ultra-overkill
A state-machine for-loop is sufficient
10:55
Regex is awesome
is there anything like sscanf() that supports this?
Why can't you use regex?
int a = 0, b = 0, state = 0;
for (int i = 0; input[i]; ++i) {
 if (input[i] == 'x') state = 1;
 else if (state == 0) a = a * 10 + (input[i] - 0x30);
 else /* state == 1 */ b = b * 10 + (input[i] - 0x30);
}
@betseg
@TuxCopter i already have code that does this
10:58
?
i just want smaller code
Why can't you use scanf?
i dont think scanf can handle this
