12:48 AM
I really need to stop typoing "subsystem" as "susbsystem"
susystem
I've made it like 5 times in the last 24 hours
in a uni assignment too
1:53 AM
I just realised I've hit every bytecount except 44 on this answer:
7
A: Sums of X*Y chunks of the nonnegative integers

emanresu AJavaScript (Node.js), 48 47 46 43 42 48 46 45 bytes (n,x,y,w)=>x*y*((y*w+x+~w)/2-n*x%w*~-y+n*x*y) Try it online! -3ish thanks to Arnauld, -1 thanks to xnor, hopefully now actually works. There might be a shorter version taking w/x instead. Simple numeric formula. They say a picture speaks a tho...

I have no idea how much of it is my own asexuality versus just lasting scars from American "xd abstinence lmao" sex ed, but I always find it weirdly baffling whenever I'm reminded how big a deal contraception actually is
Like I can't get over seeing it as a luxury, like "if you're that dead set on doing the ONE thing that risks accidental pregnancy instead of being intimate literally any other way, then you can cough up some money to lower the risk anyways"
I think it'd be mostly the asexuality :p
3:19 AM
:p
not sure if it was me, but i _did_ upvote when it had no answers since i found it interesting and well-specified. was planning to golf it myself until i realized plugging in a double sum into wolfram alpha yields a shorter python solution than actually trying to optimize that sum in more typical ways. then spent some time thinking about maybe using a more concise language before deciding against it

a bit too late for the 8888 rep thing now, but there's quite a few recent closed posts, two of which are challenges. not saying you should necessarily downvote them though -- for starters, your
And, like, obviously making contraception accessible is a big deal for harm reduction when men try to pressure women into stuff (or vice versa since that probably happens sometimes)
But in the context of healthy relationships and informed consent, it's just, like, ???
Maybe people want the "real deal"? Idk either
@RydwolfPrograms It is funny to imagine the alternative being that you somehow got less bullshit sex ed than I did in Texas of all places
I may have lol
3:24 AM
@lyxal Yeah like satisfying idle curiosity is the biggest way it makes sense LMAO
But holding off on satisfying idle curiosity is like
Kind of a thing people do anyways
Ours was still pretty abstinence-heavy but they did hire some private firm for 7th grade sex ed that covered contraception
Oh mine covered the hell out of contraception too
They just emphasized that it can fail
yeah, that was a thing for us too, I think we had to memorize the probabilities lol
Oh wait I think our 9th grade sex ed was supposed to be even more comprehensive but it was all over Zoom so all I remember is playing a ton of super mario
3:26 AM
Think they even gave us some kind of tutorial on how to put a condom on right--vaguely recall that the lesson plan might have been written assuming we'd actually practice it on a model somehow but that just didn't happen for whatever reason
@RydwolfPrograms LMAO yeah that was it
Most of the exam material I think
@RydwolfPrograms I was shocked for a bit that they subjected you to it for multiple years but then I remembered they probably did that for me too and I just forgot lmao
They had this weird schedule where every once in a while gym class would take an entire week off to become "health class"
Could be they switched between doing it 7th and 9th and I just happened to be one of the two years who'd get it twice
And it was awful
Because most of the time it was still an entire week of gym class
But then there would be some weeks where it's just, oops! I'm probably not going to get any exercise at all
And the class was still taught by the gym teacher so, like, it's not exactly going to be a well-taught class
Ooh my elementary school tried to do that (they'd talk about eating healthy and shit) but our gym teacher knew nothing so it was great
LMAOOOOOO
I think that was only a thing in middle and high for me
She taught us veins have blue blood in them (a classic), that drinking water while exercising makes you throw up (so we were all dehydrated as fuck), and one time to illustrate how important kindness is, she described a story where I think what actually happened is she stole something from someone by accident lmfao
3:30 AM
Not entirely sure I remember having gym class in elementary--I know I did because I remember the gym itself ever so vaguely, but I might have been exempted for 4th and 5th thanks to the gifted program
@RydwolfPrograms WHAT
GJADKGJWGFEG
That's amazing
Yeah she was like "one time someone left a [forgot the amount] gift card in [some place], and I felt so grateful that they left it there for some random person to find"
And I wish I remembered the place (it was like, on top of a locker or something like that) but it was clearly somewhere where someone was going to come back and get it in a minute
LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
@RydwolfPrograms Oh yeah and I remember thinking, like, "are you trying to teach kids to gamble?"
...Unrelated but this has been bugging me for a few days and I need to ask more people
How many days of the week is it normal not to meaningfully interact IRL with people you don't live with (during the school year since obviously it's most of them during the summer)
all of them
@UnrelatedString I mean, it's not really comparable to gambling. You get the payout no matter what, but with a slight chance of getting a reverse-jackpot weeks later
I was kinda worried when I realized it averaged out to exactly half for me, but then I realized, that's really not that many
3:41 AM
Depended heavily on my class schedule in high school
I'm gonna try to be more involved and social in college tho, since I won't have things like transportation and work and family to limit that
Mmm, so you would occasionally have classes where you actually talked with people in the class
And I'm actually getting pretty comfortable with social interactions
I had that in calculus one year IIRc
@RydwolfPrograms Sweeeet
...wait didn't you already have a massive social life in HS
Massive for a code golfer
No offense
But pretty mild for most people lol
I was about to say "you definitely come across as the most social person I know" LMAO
3:44 AM
@Redz incredibly based
And exactly what I do except for when I have to go to mandatory university group meetings
Well, tbf, I don't pop into chat every day where I just sit in class silently or on my desktop all day (on a weekend) to say "hi guys I didn't do anything social today" lol
@RydwolfPrograms If I didn't somehow have three separate things on Wednesdays, I'd actually be tempted to lower mine since I'm probably going to quit one of the two clubs I'm in
I think I'm kinda an extrovert trapped in an introvert's brain if that makes sense
Although my therapist has actually rescheduled to Thursdays since then so it's only two
@RydwolfPrograms That makes no sense at all and also sounds like me LMAO
Or maybe it's the other way around for me
Like my personality is very extroverted but I struggle with actually being social in person because I'm bad at like, forming sentences in real time and shit lol
3:46 AM
Like I have unmet needs for social interaction but also zero unmet wants for social interaction
Interesting
I also tend to overthink social stuff
I definitely trip on my words and miss cues and all that other stuff but it feels like the few interactions I have tend to go well fairly reliably
@RydwolfPrograms Literally who doesn't
@lyxal Ooh, neat
Like I'd love to be the kind of person who could just walk up to someone I don't know at a party but instead I end up debating with myself for 30s whether I should ask someone on a crowded elevator to push the button for my floor or just get off on the wrong one and take the stairs the rest of the way
But yeah personality-wise I feel like I "would be content" with complete isolation 24/7 but my brain beats that back with a stick
Oh so you and me are like opposites I think
3:50 AM
@RydwolfPrograms See, that's something I don't overthink. If I don't succumb to the impulse to tell them the instant it comes up, I accept my fate :P
But it's also been years since I've had to use a crowded elevator
If someone actually gets in when I'm already there I just leave
I just had to for the parking garage at the concert last night lol
Concerts have actually been great for my social skills though, I think. Since I do things that I'd be deeply embarassed to do in a place where anyone could recognize me (or even hear me lol), it kinda gets me used to being outside my comfort zone
Like it's so freeing being one of ten thousand people in a crowd when nobody can hear you even if you scream
For a while I had to wait inordinately long to use an empty elevator at my university's library (despite there being like 4 or 5 elevators) but eventually I realized the stairs are very good exercise
(Unless you make the mistake of wearing business casual in a mosh pit and then everyone recognizes you for the rest of the night lmao)
3:53 AM
@RydwolfPrograms I would certainly exercise that freedom to scream :P
I'm waiting for someone to upload a clip of the concert from last night to YT since the mosh pit was tiny so I'd probably be able to recognize myself in it lol
@RydwolfPrograms The more I think about it, the more I realize that a lot of what I find fulfilling about the things I like to be alone doing is rooted in social validation some way or another, but I can't tell how much that actually contributes to me liking them versus just getting social hits however I can
And the main thing stopping me from spending more time on them one way or another, aside from just general executive dysfunction, seems like it's obsessively lingering across chat platforms to see if there's any conversation to drop into
real
@RydwolfPrograms ...Ironically this kind of thing is also one of the things that makes me doubt being ace sometimes
4:08 AM
Because, like, I don't at all fail to see the appeal of sex
And it seems like attraction itself should be a relatively small part of "needing to satisfy urges"
I mean, I understand the appeal of curling up in a box exactly my size, doesn't make me a cat
@UnrelatedString That's not really how it is for allosexual people though
Like I know there's this positive sense of fulfillment that comes from any side of that experience, but it's not like you lose that if you don't play all of it out all the way...?
@RydwolfPrograms I'd go so far as to say I "do actively experience some form of desire for sex", just nothing quite surfacing as attraction

4:14 AM
Which, like, intuitively sounds more like repression than actually missing something. Except apparently when people repress attraction they can still usually tell it's there
...Well anyways I need to sleep LMAO
@UnrelatedString If we're talking in the context of risk/reward and people's views on access to conctraception though, I think it makes more sense to see sex as more of a terminal goal than an instrumental goal. Like you can break it down logically as like, you still have plenty of good parts of a relationship without sex, but I think the emotional side of a relationship and sex are two separate (if complementary) things people desire, one isn't a subset of the other
?????
what about people who do view those as subsets or supersets
@RydwolfPrograms So an allosexual person wouldn't see it as like, "90% of my relationship needs", they'd see it as "100% of my relationship needs and 0% of this other separate need which is typically a part of a relationship", if that makes sense
@Redz Well like, for most people sex is a subset of a relationship in that it's a part of a relationship. But I'm talking about the discrete goals/motivations people have
@RydwolfPrograms or at least, this is the best way I can describe my intuition
4:35 AM
who needs sex when you've got code golf, spam handling, and site moderation tasks? :p
Hopefully not many people, as they seem to be fairly mutually exclusive :p
I mean general site moderation tasks and spam handling over in CHQ :p
very easy to do all 3 as a code golfer

@emanresuA not anymore it seems

@Arnauld Nice! Now all we need is one more golf and this can have a "crossed out 44 is still 44" :p — emanresu A 1 hour ago
@TheEmptyStringPhotographer I think about bagels all day bagels are great
@Redz Other people are talking about … the naughty 3 letter s word
skiing?
8:51 AM
On that topic, I was playing a build battle on a Minecraft bedrock server and one person did a very inappropriate build of a man… … … …
@Redz it ends in an X
Bagelx?
six bagels
And it happened on a server where kids probably play
@emanresuA it’s 3 letters and starts with s and ends in x and has chr(101) in the middle.
schr(101)x?
That's a strange word
define letter.length = 10/3
8:59 AM
chr(101) is a letter, apparently
Don't blame me, blame the photographer
fair
On a more serious note: Yes, we talk about human existence here, and (despite being programmers) that includes (extremely SFW) discussion of sex. If you're uncomfortable with that sort of conversation, I suggest you scroll past it.
9:11 AM
For the sake of argument, that's all well and good later on, but the problem is what do you do when there's nothing to scroll to?
This conversation type seems like a good candidate for moving into its own room in future
Given that it has the potential to cause discomfort and, while SFW, might not be the first thing people want to see
I'm all for conversation starting here (I did a whole campaign to freeze the room sucking the life out of here and everything :p), but even I think some things are better moved after a while, especially if someone or multiple people raise an issue with the conversation
@emanresuA I was just joking a bit
@lyxal scroll the other way
Scroll up
@lyxal no issues, just joking a bit
I’m just starchasing
10:06 AM
comment character limit really making me golf my sandbox feedback

much less fun than golfing code, honestly
10:43 AM
@shapewarriort you could always split it into two messages
and just add ... between them
11:10 AM
i already do split my feedback into multiple messages... but just splitting at the limit would be unsatisfying for a comment that's just a sentence or two over the limit

and finding a more natural place to split it would require me to actually think
@shapewarriort Maybe use pastebin?
...huh

actually, i should keep that in mind

not necessarily for my average sandbox feedback (it's certainly... _interesting_ to deal with, but not _that_ much of a deal for me), but could very well come in handy
11:34 AM
@UnrelatedString I just don't like loitering for them, assuming I don't have that many floors to climb (or descend, if it's a really long way)

2 hours later…
1:05 PM
@lyxal isn't this what TNH was for?
@Ginger yeah, should keep that bookmarked for later reference
@TheEmptyStringPhotographer The Nineteenth House
1:30 PM
@Neil Yeah, I've now also realized that the stairs are often just faster
2:12 PM
@RydwolfPrograms That's... actually more confusing LMAO
Like if it's disjoint from the rest of the relationship
Then unless somehow being in the context of the relationship just makes it THAT much harder to deal with...?

Ever wondered what a site looks like with no mods on the team?
mod count = 0
also Poker.SE
wait what
2:23 PM
Ah, it's still pretty tame because there's no users either :P
poker.se is a thing?
...yeah what
Why would that exist
Considering how many bridge questions there are on board games SE I would assume any other card game also just goes there

@RydwolfPrograms ...Come to think of it, this is basically how I assumed it worked before I found out that attraction and love actually exist LMAO
It does sound less cynical/disgusting if I frame it less in terms of "chasing fleeting gratification" and more in terms of "making fleeting gratification safer and more accessible", since in the grand scheme of things that's kind of most of why anyone does anything anyways

before you found out what
7:25 PM
It’s kind of non-obvious that feelings you don’t personally experience exist for other people :P
Tell me about it :p
You hear about them but it’s just, like, “wow that’s a really colorful metaphor for something or another that I’ll figure out eventually”
And/or “that’s a really convenient lie to cover why you’re actually doing something, no wonder everyone else also uses it”
…capitalized “And/or” looks so cursed for some reason
I've even seen "&/or" which is also bad
YIKES

fuck
7:39 PM
Strikethroughs are so hard on ios
Also yeah have fun trying to do strikethrough on mobile
Damn smart dashes
You have to type the third dash, then move your cursor left and type the second dash, then move your cursor left and type the first dash
I was trying to delete the spaces but accidentally hit send
--- copy this
7:40 PM
@Bbrk24 Ohhhh yeah that
I was trying to remember some trick but forgot it was that simple
Thanks
@emanresuA I just noticed your new pronouns -- how recently did you change them?
Friday :p
I did not notice them 🙃
that would be why I haven't seen them
*thursday for y'all americans
7:41 PM
🙃
congratulations!!!!!!!!!
I feel like I've said that a lot recently
Add another nickel to your jar :3
yep :3
who next
It's been interesting watching the balance slowly shift
I feel left out, like I was ahead of the curve :P
7:43 PM
funny how those things happen
Thank y'all for helping me ask the right questions
Hm, Mousetail and Lyxal don't have pronouns in their chat bios at all
🫂 (I think this is the hug emoji, windows is stinky and doesn't have font support for it)
@Bbrk24 both are he/him
@Ginger yes it is but it looks awful on win11
@emanresuA You’re welcome!
And I’m glad you’re figuring things out
7:45 PM
windows initially suggested 🤗 this, which is just disturbing
oh yeah, titgrab
the "I'm going to slap you" emoji
LMAO WHAT
I can’t unsee that now
7:46 PM
you have cursed my vision
One time I sent someone that hug emoji and they responded with "titgrab"
I'll change my cgcc profile at some point but I have some IRL friends who sometimes look at it and... ugh... that's gonna be complicated
@Bbrk24 and then I sent them the other hug emoji (the one Ginger sent first) and they called that "shoulder pinch"
7:47 PM
@Bbrk24 It’s a memetic contagion
you always know the right thing to say, unrelated :p
@Ginger That is the hug emoji and my Windows decidedly does support it (granted I’m currently on iOS)
Win11 does, older Windows might not
I'm still on Windows 10, and as long as I have to use Windows I'll stay on it
7:48 PM
inb4 Ginger is on 8.1
but hopefully that won't be for much longer
ah fair
7 was great, I was really disappointed when Microsoft killed it
7 was... it had a certain je ne sais quoi
@Bbrk24 Vyxal is now more trans than APL
6
(16.6% vs 15.5%)
by developer transness?
7:50 PM
6/36 yeah (that I know of)
we have 36 developers???
I remember one of my online friends during COVID was sure they were cis and NT and then within a year and a half neither of those things were true
New Technology?
Neurotypical
36 org members discounting alts/bots, some of them haven't done much though
7:52 PM
@emanresuA Wasn't that 15% thing APL users, not devs?
Yeah but I don't exactly have a list of vyxal users
devs is close enough
there are 31 contributors listed on the Vyxal repo, 23 of them aren't bots or socks, and 5 of them are trans (assuming you're trans)
so that makes it 21.7%
Ya missed sporeball
(I think?)
no, I counted her
the five are (by commit count) madeline, you, me somehow, hyper, and sporeball
Ah right unrelated never contributed to vyxal
7:56 PM
Is this Madeline someone I would know?
@Bbrk24 For most of the time I had the slightest clue what gender was, I passively figured I personally didn’t really have one, so I didn’t seriously entertain the possibility that I was properly cis and start identifying as such until I was close enough to cracking to actively question it :P
@Bbrk24 RubenVerg
ah okay
(she prefers "madeline" though)
Good to know
has she by any chance played Celeste
7:57 PM
@UnrelatedString I do know one person who's sure he's cis partly because he had gynecomastia and got surgery for it because it gave him dysphoria
🥁
@UnrelatedString Y'know... I started questioning my gender early March, picked up Celeste late April and now have 300 hours in it...
I checked the pinned messages in one channel because I remembered there being a joke about it, but instead I found these:
7:59 PM
The classic
Also I wrote like twenty lines of Rust last month
I only have 5 hours of celeste :(
I'm most of the way through chapter 4
