Today I upgraded my version of Mathematica from 8 to 12.

how many people would enjoy a plain digitsum challenge?

4:38 AM

It might be a good idea to have just for the sake of it

@primo A Whatever lambda saves another byte

couldn't get it to work :S

need a ; afterwards
I put it in the sandbox, but a few people said that they would dupe-hammer it

@JoKing Maybe the digit sum limit is more interesting: 12345 → 6

4:48 AM
shame, the rosetta code challenges are some of my favorite

I feel like posting it anyway, but I want to judge public opinion on it

@JoKing How about spicing it up, like applying a black box function over the digits?

@Adám That just sounds like a vain effort to tack on extra stuff to a boring challenge to make it not boring (which never works)

At last! I have posted an answer to the residue number system challenge! Link to post

5:22 AM
@Adám eh, the point isn't to make a complex challenge. I know it's trivial in the majority of languages, even as built-ins in most golfing languages, but I'm more aiming for esoteric languages like the Hello World challenge does

@tjjfvi the important thing is not the amount of time, but whether you've gotten some feedback imho:)

Q: Decomposing Commutators

flawrA theorem in this paper1 states that every integral n-by-n matrix M over the integers with trace M = 0 is a commutator, that means there are two integral matrices A,B of the same size as M such that M = AB - BA. Challenge Given an integral matrix M with trace M = 0 find some integral matrices A...

The word "congratulations" spawns a confetti animation in Outlook Online. Ah yes, please bring the 2005 blinking, moving, singing web back.

@mınxomaτ You're not serious, are you?

The first statement is true

@mınxomaτ I was just about to send you anniversary congratulations when I heard of your husbands untimely passing. I'm so sorry for you loss
That'll animate‽

I guess. Although there's some more AI features in Outlook now, so it may do sentiment analysis, too
In my case, the sentence was
> Congratulations to <person> for her promotion to Vice President! In her expanded role, blah blah blah
Hovering over Congratulations restarts the animation.

wait... Facebook acquired Microsoft?

@EriktheOutgolfer No.

@Adám it's a reference to Facebook's "Text Delight"
and also the tendency of Facebook to acquire companies

Q: Would this bit-fiddling question be on topic?

pinkfloydx33I have a non-challenge, bitwise-gymnastics question that I am looking for a home for. Would this be on topic here? Per some requirements, I am trying to pack three data points into 16-bits for the fourth position of an Assembly's File Version (in .NET, the fourth position of a version number ca...

Q: Output with the same length always

maxbWith challenges like Output with the same length as the code and Create output twice the length of the code, I thought of a separate, but similar challenge. The task is to produce an output. It can either be a string, a list of characters, or whatever is the default output format of your progra...

caird coinheringaahingLevenshtein Neighbours Every square number has at least 1 different square number with which their Levenshtein distance is exactly 1.* For a given square \$x\$, each square that meets this condition is called a Levenshtein neighbour of \$x\$. damn rip 1-byte Pyth/05AB1E answer

@EriktheOutgolfer Exactly!

actually not exactly, there's one other rule that prevents this solution, but eh :P
I think the rule is in place mainly to prevent 0-byte identity solutions and such

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

Ryan SchaeferI mainly need help with scoring as I want to encourage use of esolangs. I also would like to know how to improve the answer-ability of this question in languages that don't specifically have defined functions Church booleans A church boolean is a function that returns x for true and y for fa...

I suggest we make Sandbox posts CW so we can edit them collaboratively.
Is there a KoTH template people can use?

Can't users without enough rep to edit just suggest edits? Suggesting edits is probably overall better, since challenges aren't open to answers while on the Sandbox so there's no hurry in getting edits through (plus it just gives the challenge author better agency)

@UnrelatedString I got an error message when I tried
