@Pavel You have something I can look at in order to know how to write a console app for TIO?

1:47 AM
@Draco18s What do you mean?
Generally, take code with File.ReadAllText(argv[1]) and output with Console.WriteLine

2 hours later…
3:43 AM
@Pavel That by itself is useful information. How are errors handled? TIO has a separate box for those, not sure if I have to do anything special (just let the console program crash?).

Anonymous
@Draco18s The error box on TIO is just the output from STDERR

4:18 AM
The user#### names means that they were deleted, right?
is it possible that they are ever undeleted?

Not necessarily

What's the other scenario?

That they never changed their initial name, or they changed it too that

yeah, but then they have a profile that I can click on
I should have been clearer :)
the unclickable users :)

Oh, in that case yes

4:21 AM
so, can that account ever be recovered?

Maybe? I'm not entirely sure

hmmmm

Q: Is it possible to recover an account deleted at the SE team level?

Andrei Is it possible to recover an account that was explicitly deleted by a Stack Exchange team member (as opposed to an elected diamond moderator)? That is, the kind of account where the user requested the deletion, or committed atrocities against the community?

If so, it's something that requires a CM, not a diamon

This says no, but they can restore past content to a user
bah, that's frustrating

Why is that? What's up?

4:23 AM
I'm writing KotHCommServer
and I'm running into posts that don't have a user id
because they are deleted
So, I can either handle undefined users, or I can make a fake user, and not support account recovery
I think I don't support account recovery
because that's a rare use case

Why do you even care about SE accounts?

I made the decision to tightly integrate this into SE. Literally the only way to login is to use SE Oauth
This has several benefits: I don't have to handle authentication, the instant you log in, all of the submissions you've ever made are already there, and I can automatically use the challenge creator's account to update posts
I do think in the future it'll be possible to make a non-SE challenge, but I would prefer to get it up and running first

1 hour later…
5:41 AM
@NathanMerrill D: does this mean we won’t be able to integrate with Axtell

sorry, definitely not at the start. Nothing in the DB is intrinsically tied to SE (I simply have refIDs), but making things more generic also increases the cost

@Neil Thanks for the reply. My main question is actually how to do "then for each character in the input, perform any appropriate rotation". I only know the basics of regex, but not really the special commands of Retina, so I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I don't know how to for-each over each character to perform some replacements inside the loop.

7:54 AM
@KevinCruijssen My approach would be to have an input line and an output line and transfer characters one at a time from one to the other, then wrap the whole lot in a looped group

8:13 AM
@Neil Do you perhaps have some existing Retina answers where you did something similar? Usually having an example helps me better understand how it is done in general.

@KevinCruijssen I'm sure I have but a quick trawl through my answers didn't turn up anything relevant

@Downgoat what spin can a downgoat have?
a down quark has spin 1/2

@KevinCruijssen ah, better search terms found codegolf.stackexchange.com/a/166026/17602

10:52 AM
@Neil Thanks, that looks like a promossing example. Will see if I can make something later today (or tomorrow if my current work priorities take too much time). Will let you know if/when I posted an answer or if I have more questions. :)

@KevinCruijssen See whether you can beat 68 bytes ;-)

Q: All possible Lambda Calculus functions

Legit StackChallenge: write a function that produces a string or a list containing all possible lambda functions (if it were allowed to run forever). Start with then simplest lambda expression. If you produce a string be sure to separate each lambda function with a given character, say a pipe | or a semi-c...

@Neil I even surprise myself, but I did beat 68 bytes :D 67 bytes

@KevinCruijssen My 68 bytes included what you've put in the footer

@Neil Ah ok, then mine is 1 byte longer. Will see where I can golf mine. Since a trailing newline is acceptable in other languages I figured it's also allowed for Retina, hence why it's in the footer

@KevinCruijssen I've golfed some more bytes off anyway

2 hours later…
3:13 PM
@Draco18s Console.Error.WriteLine

@ConorO'Brien absolutely this. catering a challenge so that it's "less debilitating" for an esolang is utterly ridiculous.

3:48 PM
@Pavel Yep, Mego had that answered a short while after I asked, but thanks. :)
I don't write many console applications :D

> PP&CG
This makes me very uncomfortable for some reason

I know. They didn't golf the ampersand.

haha
<nitpic>It's PPCG, not PP&CG</nitpick> ;) You didn't golf the ampersandDraco18s 42 secs ago

@Draco18s ERROR: Unbalanced Tags
at least, if you really want to nitpick :p

4:06 PM
@Downgoat Do you think you could add a setting to the design userscript to remove link underlines?
I'd do it myself but I tried and couldn't figure it out

@Pavel sure will do later

Awesome

@Pavel you should just be able to add a { text-decoration: none } to main CSS injection

Good to know
Now I need to know how to do CSS injection :P

@ThomasWard oh geeze. This happens to me all the time. "That's a nice pick, no no, backspace, PICT. GAH."

4:16 PM
@Draco18s the bane of all (X|HT)ML coders: unbalanced tag evils. :P

@ThomasWard Yeah, and my fingers have a habit of typing whatever they want to, I use my backspace key.....4.2% of the time (a little more than the letter N and about as often as Shift). "<./div<, no, <?div>, no </div>? dang it!"

heheh

4:36 PM
Yep. Writing code is fun with those kinds of mistakes. Even with an IDE's intellisense I screw up (depending on the IDE if you make a typo, the autohint goes away FOREVER until you backspace all teh way back to the .)

@AdmBorkBork Who cares about that ~

Haha

@WW Hey, random pseudo brain-flak challenge. I googled Brain-flak and followed every link I could find that seemed to be about the language. And I found this blog post‌. So... CMC What's the best approximation of flak(n)?
And also, can any of the examples in that post be improved?
Although now that I look closer, there are some mistakes in that post. Their small examples evaluate to a given number, but their larger numbers push a given number. And also aren't quite as optimized as they could be

Q: Counting Squares

TCFPWe've all seen the pictures captioned "How many squares are in this image? 98% will not get this right!" Well, here's your chance to laugh at that 98%. Input A rectangular block made of only 2 characters. In a general form, this is defined by m lines, each containing n characters. Example: 00...

I think NSP is still broken so I'll just post this here: Feedback pls

@J.Sallé top and bottom must match each other, but in your example, you use in the top but in the bottom border. Does match mean visually?
@J.Sallé The "trace" only has to be one distinct character, right? Not a bunch; /|^ etc.

@Adám yes, I meant match visually. I’ll edit that in to make it clear. And yes, the trace must be a single character, otherwise it would occupy 2 spaces in the plane
Also apparently NSP is not broken

6:59 PM
@J.Sallé It was recently fixed

Kinda. It's a feed running on Heroku, I think, so not a permanent solution.

OK now I've got upper bounds that can't be computed within the lifetime of the universe on a reasonable computer.

Well, at least it's a fixed upper bounds.
That's practically solved.

Oh sorry I meant lower bounds

oh
That's completely different and I hate you forever. :p
