12:00 AM
halp I'm trying to install mathematica has anyone done it for linux before?

yes
twice
three times actually

yay
it's saying the checksum is wrong

never had that issue. do you have the right software? are you downloading through a proxy of VPN? screenshot of the actual error?

I downloaded it without any proxies or VPNs through user.wolfram.com/portal/myProducts.html

and of course I don't have access. I'd contact Wolfram then because it sounds like they're reporting against their own checking system
i've never had that issue, though I"ve always stuck with latest Mathematica
makes me think that's a bug in their installer

12:05 AM
huh strange

(latest version is 12 though, why're you using 11?)

wait when was 12 released

ah wait i'm using their dev releases heh oops
@HyperNeutrino 11.1 isn't the latest update
11.2 is the latest

so it may be checksumming against the 11.2 installer

12:06 AM
well my activation key is for 11.1.1

go redownload?

I might but it's a pain lol it takes so long

heh
well i'd talk to Wolfram then and ask them if this is a known issue

my activation key is from like june, they gave it to me for a year for free because ARML

watch them say 11.2 will activate fine :p

12:07 AM
lol
thanks!

yep
UNIX_OR_MAC.zip
the heck is that virus doing on your computer, @HyperNeutrino :P

yeah the md5 sum of the file I have is different from the one provided by wolfram rip
@ThomasWard oh that's the zip of the test cases for CCC :P

> These-Goat-Meme-Have-Goat-Too-Far-Funny-Goat-Meme-Picture.jpg
10/10 descriptive file naming

@HyperNeutrino so why are you storing goat stuff on your computer

12:22 AM
@ThomasWard oh yeah um good question
idk either

hijacks the Internet and obtains information about @HyperNeutrino

D:
that's from the PPCG xstore server IIRC

I was about to say, we have a dedicated xstore folder for goatmemes.
It currently contains no goat memes.
What the fu- (ノ°Д°)ノ︵ ┻━┻

... and why does your network show that port 666 is open for the DOOM protocol, @HyperNeutrino

shh you'll find out once I initialize the DOOM server

12:24 AM
Doom is a 10/10 game.

that's assuming that LOIC doesn't activate first.

what is loic

Low Orbit Ion Cannon

Low Orbit Ion Cannon (LOIC) is an open source network stress testing and denial-of-service attack application, written in C#. LOIC was initially developed by Praetox Technologies, but was later released into the public domain, and now is hosted on several open source platforms. == Use == LOIC performs a DoS attack (or when used by multiple individuals, a DDoS attack) on a target site by flooding the server with TCP or UDP packets with the intention of disrupting the service of a particular host. People have used LOIC to join voluntary botnets. The software inspired the creation of an independent...

Lame Online Iguana Club

12:25 AM
i've seen some LOIC botnets sitting on port 666 before.

lol ok

Limited Obstacle Integration Contraption
Lovely Oranges Indulging Cheerily

wtf
> Gleefully
> LOIC

Oh...

Lovely Oranges Indulging Cleefuly

12:27 AM
Fear not, I know many happy Adverbs.

@HyperNeutrino well... LOIG stands for Low Orbit Ion Gunstation, which is a fictional high-powered energy weapons platform that exists in one of my fictional universes.
so...
but LOIC is what we're talking about :P

> one of my fictional universes
how many fictional universes do you have

@HyperNeutrino i have seventeen separate universes on paper, with many sets of individual characters in each. I'd share but all of the universes are currently in the middle of a very dark, very bloody, very evil war which I can't write about here.

wth 60 Minutes is impinging upon my Star Trek needs.

12:32 AM
So I'd assume you're at the very least a fan of Pen and Paper RPGs?
That or you're an infinitely powerful god creating universes at your whim, which I would rather not think to be possible.

does D&D count?
@ATaco Actually let's go with this one

God can enjoy D&D, he probably plays a bard.

yeah, I'm an infinitely multidimensional multispectral multiphasic entity with unlimited power, and can create universes at my whim
and destroy them too

@ThomasWard Yet surprisingly, you aren't on Worldbuilding

and that's a problem why?

12:34 AM
What's wrong with world building? >:(

@ThomasWard not a problem, merely an observation

My second most rep is on WB.

@cairdcoinheringaahing Well, I have many universes which are actually spinoffs of others
or ultimately are of my own private creation in my mind which encompasses MANY universes from many different shows/literature/worlds which I've already based on, and in turn has an overarching military empire which has the infinite power of fifteen quadrillion heavy warships, dreadnaughts, and indestructible impossibly-powerful military Dyson Sphere space facilities...
... of which I am in charge...
... so... :P
(there's a reason I'm considered Chaotic Neutral or Chaotic Evil in D&D campaigns lol)

gtg now o/

you're just afraid of my brain @HyperNeutrino loljk
see ya

12:37 AM
@ThomasWard Why did I get the feeling that you work for Marvel, with all these spinoffs :P

@cairdcoinheringaahing no idea. (Some of the Marvel Cinematic Universe exists in my overarching universal canon in my head, though, so blah)
@cairdcoinheringaahing the more evil thing you should be concerned about is:
why is my military empire of which I'm the ultimate power in, which spans many universes and galaxies and has a war armada and space fleet so powerful that nothing can really stand against it for long, resorting to extremely powerful planet-destroying / starsystem-destroying weapons in this five thousand year war that's been ongoing in all the universes.
such military power should just be able to roll over any enemy forces and subdue them. so why such evil heavy weapons.
consider that for a while, while I go watch Star Trek discovery now that it's supposed to be on in 5 minutes.

1:17 AM
@ThomasWard mhm definitely

what are the best js obsfucators u guys know?

JSF**k

nah

that expands wayyyy to much

1:20 AM
That'll definitely make anything you pump in unreadable, guaranteed.

im selling a boojmarklet and i dont want anyone messing with it
@ATaco it not only has to be unreadable, but also dont ant anyone disabling the online license check

StackExchange thought they could hide their EasterEggs from me, but I broke into them.

and jsfuck is easy to reverse programaticaly

1:32 AM
I have discovered an interesting game that might be useful for a koth idea...
Triplanetary was a science fiction board wargame published by Game Designers' Workshop in 1973. It was a simulation of space combat within the solar system in the early 21st Century. The game was designed by Marc W. Miller and John Harshman as part of a series to be named "The Stars! The Stars!". The game is loosely taken from SF novels and short stories of the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s - - particularly Heinlein . A second edition of the game was issued in 1981. In 1989, Steve Jackson acquired the rights to the game, with ambitions to release a new version of the game in 1991 that would tighten up...

CMC: Given a byte, reverse its binary representation. EG: 128 -> 1

I would make it so that turns are simultaneous, at least

I still believe Simplicity is what makes or breaks a KoTH.

yes. which is why this idea appeals to me
it makes acceleration and deceleration much simpler

Consider some of the most attractive KoTHS: Prisoner's Dilemma, RPS, variations of RPS, etc.

1:41 AM
nah those ones only get a bunch of answers because it takes less effort to make answers
if you actually asked people who participates in multiple koths their favourite koth, it would probably be something else

...
Well of course, but I don't expect a perfect dinner for every meal.

it's more accessible, but that doesn't make it good
like how you guys don't like multi-language koths much

(Also, if you make a KoTH demanding I use Python, I probably won't compete)

speaking of which, I will have to make a new language for the koth to make it fair
tbh it doesn't bother me too much because I've sorta been looking for an excuse to make a language

._.
But then people will have to learn the language

1:44 AM
yes
but when everyone is slightly disadvantged, noone is

I say probably, because there is Some Exceptions

so, like, what paradigm should my language have? how about some assembly style stuff for fun
because spaceships with assembly style language programs sorta appeals to me

Remember when I said I believe simplicity is what makes or breaks a KoTH?

assembly is simple though

Writing a new language for a KoTH not based around that language seems kinda...

1:46 AM
if you have higher level commands in it especially
@ATaco yeah but I don't know javascript, and like 4 people will participate if it's python

Do you know Java?

:\

Use Nathan's Java KoTH server

Learn some Practical languages, Foo'

1:47 AM
it's apparently really nice

@ATaco what does this have to do with java?

Final Feedback?

@ATaco alternate jibe: foo isn't very practical...

define practical
:P

Although I credit the joke, the apostrophe was intentional to indicate a letter was dropped.

1:49 AM
@ATaco I know. I just chose to ignore the apostrophe for my joke, as I chose to ignore that the sentence would need a colon not a comma

I took a breath; I in fact did not separate two related sentences of the same topic.

@ATaco ... I had to run cat /usr/share/dict/words | grep -i ^foo.$ to figure out what you were talking about.

@ATaco semicolon != colon? or are you just having fun with semicolons?

Well a Semicolon was correct to use in that case, still not yet a Colon.
I don't actually know the correct usage of a colon.
> a punctuation mark (:) used to precede a list of items, a quotation, or an expansion or explanation.
Well now I do.
God bless the internet.

s/internet/anti-net/
:P

1:52 AM
"use a practical language: foo" is definitely correct, as no other punctuation mark works and it sounds right

Although it would if I was suggesting the usage of foo which would allow your joke to work, this particular case was using the somewhat insulting "Foo'" which is a contraction on "Fool"

ok so what language that isn't some annoying language like java can I use that won't get people complaining about new language being unnecessary, or complaining that python is bad and they won't participate?

Lua!

:(

1:54 AM
arrays start at 0

@LeakyNun Back me up
These are tables, not arrays.
Tables start at 1.

Sep 22 at 1:04, by ATaco
If I can quine Forte I can quine anything.

@ATaco hi

I can, but I'm lazy.
Lua is a good language, Yes?

1k rep...

1:55 AM
@ATaco certainly

yeah maybe but people say java is good

java is... interesting...

I kinda need a non-commercial small compact lang

Java is good.

flags as inappropriate

1:55 AM
Java is okay in many aspects but for the most part I really hate using it.
It's so inconvenient

Java is evil

like if you want to add one to the input and output it

Java consumes too much RAM

Python: print(int(input())+1)

not that I have anything against commercial projects, but it's just that the commercial things will have so many things and modules and stuff that it won't be simple really

1:56 AM
PARI/GP: print(input()+1)
all input is automatically evaluated

Python 2: print input()+1

._.

Jelly:

JVM is powerful yet portable.

Java: import java.util.*;interface M{static void main(String[]a){System.out.println(new Scanner(System.in).nextInt()+1);}}

1:57 AM
And the VM itself is lightweight compared to interpreted languages.

like wtf

@HyperNeutrino SimpleStack: .
you should change that to a CMC :P

Just because the uncompiled language isn't good for golfing, doesn't mean it's not a good language.
Where java fails, it's usually because of who wrote the code, not Java itself.

CMC: Add 1 to the input

Fun fact, PARI/GP can store integers up to 500000 digits

1:59 AM
@ATaco so verbose though

Java JDK9, 6 bytes. a->a+1

@HyperNeutrino this is a sorta big program in Turtlèd...

@DestructibleLemon lol
@ATaco Oh yeah you can do that :P

@HyperNeutrino SimpleStack: ., +1, $., $+1, 1$+, etc
pls give my lang attention

RProgN2 is just 1+

2:00 AM
lol

Sadly not ., but 'eh.

Jelly is just the increment byte or +1
or 1+

RProgN2 still has no increment function.

ok, untested but I think this works

anyfix is 1+ or +1 or the increment

2:00 AM
Turtlèd: !' [*.r_+](9{9'0l})(8'9)(7'8)(6'7)(5'6)(4'5)(3'4)(2'3)(1'2)(0'1)( '1)

wtf
Proton is (+)&1

@HyperNeutrino Cubically, 8 bytes: $:7R+8%6

@HyperNeutrino wtf what?

@ATaco Why do you need Java 9 for that

2:01 AM
@Pavel Java 9 is just what I tested on.

@DestructibleLemon that's so long

@Pavel REPL I think

No that's a lambda

also actually 1+ works in proton

@HyperNeutrino yeah you need to make cases for every digit

2:02 AM
or rather (1+)
@DestructibleLemon that seems awkward

well, it doesn't work on numbers, it works with char grid
and a very badly programmed interpreter
but that's a different story

C#, 23 bytes: void f(ref int i)=>++i;

lambdas exist in C#?
cool

ReRegex, 7 bytes 0#input
(Takes the input as a unary number)

@HyperNeutrino C#, 6 bytes: i=>i+1

ah ok

I'm running out of languages I've written.

wait so your first C# one actually modified in-place?

Positron: function{return$1+1}

@HyperNeutrino Yep

I forgot to erase a * in my program

Python: lambda x:x+1
I'm surprised nobody posted Python yet

@Downgoat wait actually :o cool

call it with the + operator

@Downgoat ._. is that even valid
Python: (1).__add__

You can also do thing like int aVar => otherVar + 3;, which make aVar behave and be accessible like a readonly variable but always evaluate to otherVar + 3.
@HyperNeutrino Does 1.__add__ not work?

2:05 AM

nope
syntax issues

@Pavel @ASCII-only we should steal this for VSL

@Downgoat Please steal the entire property syntax, it's so much more powerful than that example.

Yep, I'm out of languages I've written.

@ATaco I have a whole two other languages!!!!

2:07 AM
Lua, 12 bytes print(...+1)

which is only because I only made one
I have conserved my resources

I haven't used Ceres
I think there's an increment built-in

@ATaco Did you write Thread or was that someone else?

To Recap, RProgN2, Threead, TacO, ReRegex, MaybeLater, (RProgN1 also exists, but it's not much different from the RProgN2 answer)

Also, brainf**k: + (I think?)

2:08 AM
I wrote Threead.

Did you already answer in that, I didn't see it.

@HyperNeutrino MseShpdCttr: Cx0 Xi++ Ox (verbose version: cookie x = 0; x = input()++; output(x);)

huh interesting

can't tell if you're serious or not

2:09 AM
yeah I think it's interesting
mouse shaped cookie cutter?
or meta stack exchange shaped cookie cutter

course I am planning on writing that language

@HyperNeutrino no

o lol
@DestructibleLemon right because apparently I have to take IO lol

2:13 AM
yes
ok so what features should my spaceship koth thing have in it?
ship customisation?
heat management?

I feel like you'd be better off writing video games than koths

You have ideas that seem really fun in a video game and not fun to account for in a koth

not sure about that one
I don't really have ideas much anyway...
also spaceship heat was something i got from endless sky anyway
also, having to account for your own weapons and thrusters overheating you seem like something that a spaceship koth would find useful for adding some depth
especially with spaceship customisation

that sounds a bit too complicated for a koth; you might not get many answers
lol why does my challenge have only 4 views after 14 minutes
right, sunday night, huh

2:22 AM
@HyperNeutrino not firing your engines up all the time is not that complicated
tbh

idk ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

also the fellowships koth got a decent amount of answers with its customisation

I feel like there should be a "bit" less customisation than endless sky though
also I'm not sure if I would factor in parts cost either
probably not
hmmm now I'm not exactly sure of why exactly spaceships need to move around
maybe there are asteroids to mine or something

2:38 AM
@Mr.Xcoder I've been seeing your PPCG rep at 1. I've refreshed and checked in other places but it keeps saying you have 1 rep... can you confirm?

is he suspended or something?

Yeah, I'm guessing suspended.

as a standard user it should tell you why the user is suspended if you view their profile. I don't have any special powers on PPCG yet I can see what the system is complaining about :P

well there you go.
drifts back into the shadows

2:48 AM
@ThomasWard Wait, no special powers? You're blue though?

@Pavel my diamond isn't for PPCG

Oh. Dur.

Maybe one day I'll have my first Diamond!

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

mods on other sites have chat-wide blue diamond powers (so long as it's on chat.stackexchange.com - that's the extent of my diamond reach, it doesn't extend to chat.so or meta.se chat)

2:51 AM
what is the common name for voting irregularities again?

Vote manipulation
Socking
Serial voting

There has only been one RProgN answer not written by me with some effort put in.
I say some effort, because 1\n1 and variations of it have been done to death.

@ATaco If you can write a Preproc quine I'll give 100 rep for it.

Already proved it was impossible :(
Wait, no it was unproved.

2:55 AM
Because \u000a

Wow, escaping unicode makes this infinitely easier.
@Pavel I'm two bytes away from a quine.

3:11 AM
Nice
(Technically 3 because you need the trailing newline but that's trivial)

wat
i don't think code.tio supports unicode lol
at least not GOOD unicode xD

@ThomasWard That be the C preprocessor

so, I just had a sorta cool idea for my koth
it's possible to get someones missiles to hit them, with good enough maneuvering
a heat seeking missile which attempts to home at a target does not know the difference between an enemy and the firer
also I need to come up with a way to deter just flying super speed out of the map or something
toroid space?
also how will spacecraft collisions be handled I wonder...
probably not at all
