@Mego Nice! Guess we have to wait for Nov 1 for the new design
Do we have any news about the graduation? I think the 6-8 months are soon over.

@Sherlock9 I'm a crazy person

Flp.Tkc A number is a Mersenne Prime if it is both prime and can be written in the form 2n-1, where n is a positive integer. did you try updating?
there was just an update for the app
@Mego Yep, I agree, it does take some work and some Fingerspitzengefühl.
very nice hat flawr
@flawr TIL that's an english loanword in addition to being german
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ did you know it? :D I heard that it was also used in english, but I wasn't sure how well known it actually was. I imagine many people have trouble pronouncing it:)
14:29
yep
my family, especially dad's side, is part german (so my last name is completely german afaik), so they try to get me to speak german a lot
Haha cool :D
Do you speak any other languages?
learnign spanish
@flawr for reference, last name is "wachtler", in case you've heard it
on the bright side I never have problems with identical names, on the dark side I become a sith am always alphabetically last/later
Yeah, I had that problem with my "Loading... Forever" question
@KritixiLithos hey if you havne't posted your question yet, can you wait for a quarter of an hour to test hatter? i.e. post it on the quarter (or even better the exact hour).
that's why I had to add the forever

can you star that for viewability?

MegoConsider the following example challenge: Given a set of integers, output a truthy value if there is a non-empty subset whose sum equals 0, or a falsey value if no such subset exists. Solutions must have worst-case polynomial time complexity or better. This is the subset sum problem, which ...

Kritixi LithosYour task is to create a program that is to mimic Big Ben (Twitter). For example, when it's 3 o' clock, you have to output BONG BONG BONG. ...

This runs forever
And the output depends on the time
I'd consider this as pretty dupey too
Whatever, @KritixiLithos, you saw the BF room?
Yep, I seriously don't know what to do
15:26
@KritixiLithos aha! in the lead again from you
did you get your hats yet?
Not yet
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ What's your newest hat?
Polymath seems to be tough to get
yeah, it is
running ragged is harder though
The 3 time repcap is the hardest IMO
Just opened a friend's present: "What If?" by Randall Munroe :)
@KritixiLithos well, maverick
@Flp.Tkc nice!

I got it in stack overflow

@Flp.Tkc we're going for ppcg hats

More traditional stack based languages are easier, like CJam, MATL, or osabie
Oh good, lol
Wow, dynamic_cast is really slow.

@quartata Well yeah, RTTI is slow
I mean yeah I knew it was bad but I didn't know it was that bad.
It would be better to store the type yourself using an enum.
There must be weird template special cases it has to handle

@betseg Isn't that actually trivial? The first click is never a mine. 10x10 with 98 mines - now that's near impossible.

@El'endiaStarman 10x10 with 97 mines- more impossible
@El'endiaStarman the first click can definitely be a mine
At least in the versions I've played
@DJMcMayhem I'm going off of the original(?) version that came with early Windows versions. The minefield wasn't generated until you clicked.
Anonymous
16:35
@El'endiaStarman Both of those are wrong
@KritixiLithos But why? Your chances of a successful second click pretty much double.
Anonymous
MS Minesweeper wasn't the original, and the minefield is pre-generated. If the user clicks on a mine on their first click, the mine gets moved (to the top-left corner if available, else the closest square to the top-left corner).
Apparently, someone's been flagging Pyke submissions
@Mego Oooh, okay. TIL
@KritixiLithos o_O what flag?
16:37
@El'endiaStarman Probability of success: 3/100 * 2/99 * 1/98. In your scenario, it's 2/100*1/99 (if I'm doing my math right)
@DJMcMayhem It came under Low Quality Posts in the Review Queue. This answer was flagged as low-quality because of its length and content
It's probably slightly better then that because there's a chance they're next to each other, improving your odds on the second click
@KritixiLithos That's automatic.
@quartata What do you mean? Community flags them?
@KritixiLithos Yes.
16:39
for small code
I've reviewed 400+ of those, rejected most of them because lots of short answers are high-quality but flagged anyway
I thought some of the newer users were flag-crazy
Anonymous
@quartata TIL you're Karl Pilkington
@Mego Basically.

@KritixiLithos you know what's even worse? Community downvotes them for improving their question

I guess gremlins?
17:36
@noɥʇʎԀʎzɐɹƆ Just call it as usual
@flawr Wow
@Downgoat Huh?
Async api with callback -> straight up sync
@Mego Three cases I can think of: 1. A typo. 2. Caching. 3. The language list didn't load properly.
All three could have a gremlin as underlying cause though.
why do we need to declare a function async anyways?
@Downgoat but the API doesn't return a promise :/
17:38
See under General Usage
I also did an SO answer
5
A: Why do I have to put async keyword to functions which have await keywords?

DowngoatIs it a design choice? Well this is because of the synchronous nature of JavaScript. If you wanted a function to run an asynchronous command synchronously, it would block up the entire program and this is highly undesirable, bad if it's client side, horrible if it's server-side. For this reason ...
