llama.stackeschange.com

@Optimizer Can llamas not spell "exchange"? :P

@AlexA. its not a typo.
stack-es-change

"Es" as in "is" in Spanish?

no. Ecma Script

My goodness, so much starring and unstarring going on today.

5:02 PM
@MartinBüttner I guess here

@Geobits Your answer is pretty convincing; I like it.

Oh man, so much would have to change if we change our title away from golf. Subdomain (possibly), title, community ad, and everything else that references golf that would be confusing out of the context of "code golf."

Only took me 3 months to mess up at work :S

@Vioz- u_u

Well, in reality it's not my fault :P

5:06 PM
Miss a cult meeting, or something more serious?

My boss was getting me to test a function to repeat an event every x days he had written and add it to an event table
What he did not consider is that if none was left checked, the process never stops adding

Then you hit the computer with a bat and jumped out the window?

Now I can't access the server with any of my details, and my boss is not responding to the email I sent

I recommend Alex's approach.

and now there's 234,000 entries when we should have about 1100
And it's still going ._.

5:08 PM
Ouch

Glue down Ctrl+Alt+Delete and then go for lunch.

Does anyone else have access? If not, call your boss instead of email.
(or text, if you know he's somewhere a call isn't appropriate)

Hit your boss with a car. That'll get his attention.
(I'm really not helping.)
Idk man, just use jQuery.

I texted him, hopefully he's paying attention..

"lol shoulda used jquery. next time bro" -Vioz-'s boss

5:15 PM
Haha

The Nineteenth Byte --> The Nineteenth Completely Unhelpful Thing I've Posted Here Today

334,000 now..

Can you not kill it?

Maybe it'll stop once the server's hard drive fills up
I can't.

Alright. I guess it really is bat and window time.

@Vioz- :| oof.

Bat-and-window is not really viable in a basement office ;P

Probably almost as long as it did to fill in all this data, if not longer

5:22 PM
D:

@Vioz- Can you pull the network connection?
Or is the loop running on the server?

Running on the server

@Vioz- I've never dealed with this sort of problem, so I don't actually know, but that's my best guess
Perhaps itll be much shorter than that.

Maybe if he backups diligently we can restore to something at least close

Alright, my boss says he's stopped everything
And the grand total of rows is 505,404!

Tell him that the UK hasn't stopped. Dunno if the rest of the world is moving though

Nothing is stopped here eit

Pretty sure we're stopped here. The sun seems to be glaring down from a constant position at least.

:P

I can't see the sun here. It's behind some clouds. Insufficient data to accept or reject the null hypothesis of no movement.

5:31 PM
The time is either stopped or still running out.
Either way, time is screwing us.

Obligatory xkcd

@Optimizer Nope. I hopped on time's back and am riding the current like a Nyanllama.

@Geobits I am time ????

@AlexA. At least add a NSFW warning above that!

5:32 PM
?

@Optimizer What? No, you ride the currents of time. I am riding along like you.

> I hopped on time's back

Llama riding a clock?

It has a back. Isn't that where you guys are, too?

I just added a bunch of relevant user stats to the nomination post
7

I can't understand what you guys are talking about.

Alex is talking about screwing. Me and Opti are talking about riding time.

@Calvin'sHobbies I probably would have put those in the individual candidates' posts.

And the table is back to normal :)

Who in here likes knock knock jokes?

5:38 PM
@AlexA. Agreed. Doing do now

@TheNumberOne get off my lawn

@TheNumberOne @Doorknob probably.

@TheNumberOne Who in here doesn't? It'll make compiling The List easier.

@AlexA. he hates them. if you knock, you touch the knob after a delay rather than directly touching it.

Shall I tell one :P

5:40 PM
Who's there?

A little old lady.

knock knock

@Optimizer Hey, come right in!

Umm, a little old lady who....?

... likes to knock

Serious Face On: Does anyone with a more formal CS background want to write an actual answer to this meta question?
"more formal" basically meaning any sort of education in the area.

Another salty C++ user.

5:46 PM
I like salt.

I like sea
now we need two plus likers

1+1?

@Calvin'sHobbies uh, what was that?

5:48 PM
@MartinBüttner It was Geobits yodeling I thought.
Yodelbits.

@MartinBüttner Huh?

ah, you moved it to the answers
I was wondering why you'd edit that all in just to remove it again

Haha

Hmm, does chat onebox user profiles?

@Geobits THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE ALEX

5:50 PM
He's trying to ROT-13 you out of existence.

@ChrisJester-Young You should probably be roped into the discussion of a name change for the site. Is it possible without graduation? If the subdomain changes can there be forwarding from codegolf.se to <newname>.se to avoid breaking outside links?

@AlexA. now I wonder if there are Alex B through Alex M too ?

Highlander is a 1986 British-American action fantasy film directed by Russell Mulcahy and based on a story by Gregory Widen. It stars Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, Clancy Brown, and Roxanne Hart. The film depicts the climax of an ages-old battle between immortal warriors, depicted through interwoven past and present day storylines. Despite having enjoyed little success in its initial U.S. release, the cult film launched Lambert to stardom and inspired a franchise that included film sequels and television spin-offs. The film's tagline, "There can be only one", has carried on throughout the...

@AlexA. There are other folks with birdatars

@Calvin'sHobbies It's beautiful.

cute

Maybe I should change my name to xjQuerYxL0VRx69x

u change first

5:56 PM
That would be the perfect thing to do in the midst of an election :D

My thoughts exactly.
At some point I might go all m.buettner and use my full name, but I like how short Alex A. is.

Better yet, just change it to m.buettner

XD
If elected mod, I will seriously consider changing my display name to Fun Police.

Are those police to enforce fun, or crack down on it?
Or are they police, but fun? Or turkeys? Or vicious killer birds?

Most of the things you said in your last two posts.

6:01 PM
What about the below?

Is that clearer? :P

Not really. Which "most"?

Well, "fun police" in no way implies anything about birds.

But you are a bird, no?

On the Internet, everyone thinks you're a bird

6:04 PM
No, everyone thinks you're a bird.

@AlexA. Moderators SE had been renamed to Community Building SE. Yes, you can rename site URLs and retain compatibility.

@ChrisJester-Young Cool. Is it tied to graduation?

@AlexA. CB isn't graduated yet.

Oh, okay. Didn't know.
@ChrisJester-Young You should give us your input here.

@AlexA. It seems the majority of the votes say no change.

6:10 PM
@ChrisJester-Young Yes, and I'm one of those votes. As a mod-turned-dev and a valued member of the community, what do you think?
@Geobits lol @ "blood sports"

:D

Wait, how did my flair update?

magic

@BetaDecay It's not a static image.

Well it didn't change for ages after I changed my avatar.

6:16 PM
From the -15? It's been changed for days for me.

Has it? Hm I guess I haven't checked it for a while

Yeah, it changed in the flair from my perspective the same day you changed it.

Ah well that's good to know :)
Also, I have no idea why I have four helpful flags. I think I can only remember flagging a question and/or answer twice

I must say, I'm doing much better in the election than I had anticipated. Of course, we'll all lose to Dennis, but still.

Hehe I've got a -19 score on meta :D
I guess that's nothing to be proud of but still

6:23 PM
Haha is that the post that had -15 before?
740 messages per week on chat?! Oh man, I should branch out my hobbies.

I should branch out my hobbies.

@AlexA. Lightweight :P

@AlexA. Is that some sort of a crack?

@AlexA. I'm not going to give an opinion, because I worry that it will skew everyone else. (Similar to Martin and Doorknob's stance to not actually nominate anybody for the current thing.)

6:25 PM
@AlexA. If you total the votes on all of my 29 answers on meta, it comes to -19

So many pings

@AlexA. That just begs for more though.

@AlexA. You brought this upon yourself

@ChrisJester-Young Makes sense, though Martin and Doorknob have both voiced opinions in this. I don't think you voicing your opinion would necessarily skew anyone, but I respect your decision to abstain. :)
@Geobits I've said it before and I'll say it again: The ping noise is immensely satisfying to me.

@AlexA. Where do you find that stat?

6:27 PM
Chat relay is running if anyone wants to snoop into the world of minecraft

@AlexA. :-)

Oh, it has its own room now? Nice.

@ETHproductions It's on my moderator election post.
@Calvin'sHobbies Crack?

@AlexA. Personal joke

@Calvin'sHobbies Since you're Calvin's Hobbies?

6:31 PM
@AlexA. Yeah. (ok, idk)

@Calvin'sHobbies <3

I doubt birds and imaginary tigers can interbreed

Who said anything about breeding? :|

Not this again

:P

6:35 PM
@AlexA. wait.. you bred with Calvin????

And you, apparently.

oh geez

@Optimizer Someone misquoted. We "ate bread" in Minecraft

I read that as someone misquitoed

@Calvin'sHobbies The image tells otherwise!!! Now I know what you have been doing in Minecraft and why you have been skacking off recently!!

6:37 PM
"Skacking"?

you are breeding with Calvin and all you care about is spellings?

Wow, Alex you village bike ;) Calvin and Optimizer?

@BetaDecay who knows, for all I can tell, @AlexA. might be the one making you decay all those beta particles ;)

You are just jealous now!
finding out that Alex has been breeding with others too

so, is there a way to show all the answers on the same page?

no

Delete arbitrary answers until there is just one page.

6:44 PM
@aditsu You can query up to 100 at a time with the SE API and get a big json of their content

@flawr you can't do that alone
@flawr you can use my original stack snippet which renders the answers almost identical to how they appear on se

Right, you'd need to buy a diamond first.

Dennis is buying right now

@Optimizer /◕‸◕\

All I say is that I am not voting for Pi
Whoever gets that joke will be awarded a virtual high-5.

6:47 PM
I wish I had posted the stats earlier

They're pretty great Calvin

what stats?

what joke?

@flawr Do we have to prove that we understand it before receiving our prize? I don't want to give it away or anything :P

1 hour ago, by Calvin's Hobbies
I just added a bunch of relevant user stats to the nomination post

6:48 PM
Has anyone ever watched Quicksilver beat up Captain America with a bouquet of flowers?

in a cartoon episode?
in the movie, nothing of sorts happened

Well I think it is not very ambiguous, so no you do not have to prove: Here I gladly present you: High five!

Does it count if it was really bad cosplay?

@flawr so you're voting for phi?

@aditsu No I only said that because I desperately wanted to make a joke.
And though that this one would be sooo witty.

6:52 PM
@Optimizer It's an online video game my sister is playing

@ETHproductions Marvels Super Heroes? link ?

It's a LEGO game called "Team Up"

link?

nice

7:01 PM
Anyone noticed that the Coronation Street title card is messed up?

=/

@flawr Are you French?

7:36 PM
@BetaDecay no, swiss
why?

Just curious :)

where r u from?

@flawr are you in army?

no more, i can do my duty now in so called 'civil service'

7:40 PM
damn... I wanted a swiss army knife!

thats what you can do if you have 'ethical concerns'
you can still get one=)
the 'real' swiss army knives don't even have bottle openers anymore
even tough drinking used to be the only way to survive this crap^^

Is it actually made by the Swiss army? Or is it a Victorinox?

They are made by Victorinox.
right

Ahh cool, so I have an army issue knife :D

@BetaDecay I thought its made of Swiss Army!!

7:42 PM
Then the quality would be much worse

I thought it was made of Toblerone :P

Did you ever notice the bear in toblerone?

Yep haha. I'll check to see if it's actually on the Matterhorn when I'm there ;)

Are you gonna go to zermatt?

@Optimizer Leathermans are better.

7:51 PM
But way too expensive.

I am not interested in a knife made of leather

And man.

I didn't ever get into the knife thing
I have a $12 flip knife and a $10 13-inch one (don't know the actual name lol), because I thought they'd be cool
The only thing the large one gets used for is dramatic unboxings of whatever I get from Amazon :p

You can use knives to fix lawnmowers, cut meat, gut fish, open boxes, ...

Open wine bottles
use the winebottle opener to untie shoelaces

7:55 PM
Does anyone know how to not be detected by the leaderboard snippet? My answer isn't eligible to win so I don't want to show up in the leaderboard. I tried formatting my header incorrectly but instead of not showing up, the whole header is displayed as the language name.

For the language quiz?

No it's this:
0
A: Sign that word!

undergroundmonorailpb (INVALID) - 179 bytes ^w[B!0]{w[B!0]{>}<t[B]^b[T]vb[0]<[X]<vb[B+1]^>}^w[B!0]{w[B!0]{>}<t[B]b[0]<[X]v[T+2]w[B!0]{>}b[T]<[X]^[Y+2]}vv<w[B!0]{>vw[B=0]{v}w[B!0]{>}<t[B]b[0]^[Y]<[X]w[B!0]{>}b[T]<[X]<b[B-1]} Answers on this site are only considered valid if the language they're written in was ava...

Ah, I see.
Well, I don't see what the big deal is leaving it, since you're not winning anything :P

@MartinBüttner are you around?

@undergroundmonorail nope.

7:58 PM
dang

@Vioz- if only it was something from 5 to 7 inches :P

if you were around i'd ask you if there's a way to have an answer be ignored by the leaderboard snippet

no

riope

8:00 PM
i guess i'll just format it properly so it doesn't look horrible, and make it clear that it can't win

@undergroundmonorail if I was around I could make that happen. which answer would I be invalidating?

Maybe if you double-header it? Like do ## instead of #

0
A: Sign that word!

undergroundmonorailpb (INVALID) - 179 bytes ^w[B!0]{w[B!0]{>}<t[B]^b[T]vb[0]<[X]<vb[B+1]^>}^w[B!0]{w[B!0]{>}<t[B]b[0]<[X]v[T+2]w[B!0]{>}b[T]<[X]^[Y+2]}vv<w[B!0]{>vw[B=0]{v}w[B!0]{>}<t[B]b[0]^[Y]<[X]w[B!0]{>}b[T]<[X]<b[B-1]} Answers on this site are only considered valid if the language they're written in was ava...

wait, are you talking about the quiz or a different challenge?

a different challenge

8:00 PM
oh, the normal leaderboard

Not sure if the script matches all headers or just a single #

an invalid header format should do it, but I'll have to check how to invalidate that regex

you are very involved for someone not being around

The regex is just /^#/
So it looks like it would still match a line with more than 1.

@flawr Yeah, in December before Christmas

8:01 PM
i wonder if <!-- -->#HEADER would work

I think if you put a space before the # it will work?

Might be trimmed once you save the answer though.

both of them prevent it from actually being a header

try <h1>Header</h1>
(I really need to update that snippet... the one for the quiz is a lot better)

8:03 PM
That breaks the link but I might be able to use a real HTML link in its place

Seems like the way to go
You can also put a > infront, preserves the header too, and sorta stylizes the post in a way that would draw people to read it's invalid

I've got the html header working, i'll just leave it for now
Thanks Martin :)
^ what i would say if he had been here

Just ping him a bunch to make sure he sees it all when he gets back ;)

Nice :D

8:09 PM
What counts as an esoteric language?
I'm wondering if I should add a page for my language

> An esoteric programming language is a computer programming language designed to experiment with weird ideas, to be hard to program in, or as a joke, rather than for practical use.
that being said, Perl has an esolangs page. i'm pretty confident that's a joke though

Perl is a joke too.

haha

@BetaDecay What's yours?

@Dennis I've invalidated the jQuery answer.

8:21 PM
Universal studios is on a roll this year

Hey hey.

Hey!

It's really bare bones but still fairly workable

Looks cool! :D

Haha yeah thanks. I'm working on nesting if statements and nested loops now :)

8:25 PM
That is going to be so much fun :P Nesting in stuck is..well, almost useless

anyone played flick shoot 2?

What do people think about lifting the usual programming language requirements for the Hello World catalogue? This isn't about winning the overall contest, so HQ9+ submissions aren't really a big deal (that said, they aren't even valid, because of capitalisation). And with the rules we might miss out on some interesting esolangs where golfing HW is challenging, but prime testing might not be (easily) possible.

I think it would be pretty cool!
Sp3000 makes a good point, the snippet should be in some sort of "catalogue" mode that allows searching through the answers.

8:40 PM
yeah, I could probably make that work somehow. maybe just put a --- after the actual code (in case you need multiple code blocks)

@MartinBüttner I think it's a good idea to lift them, it's just that it might result in bedlam with people inventing new languages left right and centre :P

as long as they are interesting language, I think that's an argument for lifting restrictions :P
(although I wasn't referring to the creation date restrictions. rather the "must be able to add and test primes" requirement.)

I've got my 0-byte answer lined up already ;P

Oh, I have this problem lying around in the sandbox:
3
A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

Mauris Truth is one, paths are many A truth-machine is a simple program that works like this: If the first character on STDIN is the digit 0 (the byte 48), the program outputs a 0, optionally followed by a newline (the byte 10), and terminates. If the first character on STDIN is the di...

Must be able to test primes? Hmm maybe addition and subtraction isn't enough...

8:47 PM
I think it's pretty well-specified, I just need a way to count distinct languages. Surely this has come up before, right?

@BetaDecay I think you probably could make a program in Fourier that does a primality check. The logic would not be fun to figure out though :P

(It got a little eclipsed by Martin's post, haha. No-one's complained about its quality yet, though.)
I'm looking at Fourier. The stack has... one value on it?

Appears to be so.
Due to the nature of repeat, it seems you could add prime checking decently easy.

Fourier seems to have all it takes to implement a Minsky machine.
What with Python's bignums allowing for unbounded storage, and there being at least two registers.
So it should be TC.
(The one-register Minsky machine language described on that page is very magical. I have no idea how that manages to be Turing-complete, but it is.)

8:55 PM
@Mauris Link?

Ta
@BetaDecay, stack? It seems to be a single integer.

Eh, integers are just fancy monosymbolic stacks. :)
(Oh dang, negative numbers, though.)

IMAO it would make a lot more sense to call it the register.

Yes, "accumulator" or something would be nice.
"Stack" is a definite stretch. :<
