Some serious golfing. Never thought I would be able to shed the 38 characters I did (since the 454 bytes -> 434):
7
A: Fast, Cheap, and Good - Choose any Two

QuincunxPython 3 2, 454 434 433 431 428 421 410 396 bytes I thought, Python must be shorter than Java. Here is the "proof" (EDIT: now it really is shorter): from Tkinter import* I=IntVar t=Tk() exec''.join({'`':'=Checkbutton(t,text="','|':'",v=','^':'.pack();'}.get(a,a)for a in'a=I();b=I();c=I();l=La...

12:50 AM
All i do is golf, golf, golf no matter what. Got coding on my mind i can never get enough, and every time i open up the chat room everybody's stars go up!
And they stay there!

1 hour later…
I'm back. I was at a roller coaster park thingy the whole day for orchestra. The diamond was a nice surprise :P
Time to take a look at all the fancy mod powers I have now!

want
I did that once, it wasn't very fun
(the roller coster park thingy)

2:33 AM
I'm in last place for flags handled. I wonder why. :P

Oooh, nifty mod tools on that which I'm probably not allowed to talk about :P
I'm going to be pretty careful with binding votes right now.

Hmm...
Want

My first comment undeletion! (the two comments were auto-killed by Community)

How are you, @DOOR

2:42 AM
I feel very powerful with my binding vote. :P Gtg to eat dinner, which I still haven't done

DoorknobDiamond

@Doorknob You are correct, mod-only tools are not allowed to be discussed publicly. ;-)

:( why not? :(

@TheDoctor I think it's a blanket policy that helps ensure that some of the more powerful anti-abuse tools do not become public knowledge (which may allow abusers to dodge the tools).
For example, there are very specific tools that help mods identify voting rings.

hmm... cool

2:47 AM
We don't want people who run voting rings to know how we find them, so we can't talk about such tools.

I see

@ChrisJester-Young Yeah, always better to be safe ;)

3:05 AM
D.J. Doctor!
All I do is golf, golf, golf no matter what.
Got coding on my mind I can never get enough.
And every time I post another challenge everybody's votes go up!
And they stay there! And they say yeah!
Up vote up vote up vote.
Cause all I do is golf, golf, golf, and if you wanna play,
golf your code, hit submit, let the votes come!
Hmm... i don't like the last line.

Hmm
... wait, why did that just transform into pop-contest?

Uh oh.
@Door the last edit was actually incorrecting some of the grammar. I want to revert

It was an edit conflict (I edited while he was editing)

Oh.
Rollbackitated

3:21 AM
Certainly not. That is by no means low enough quality to kill with a binding vote; in fact, it could be reopened if improved.

K
This is why i shouldn't be a mod here
Somewhere else ....... perhaps

4:01 AM
I like Gitub

2 hours later…
5:46 AM
Oh, there's a room for code golf?! :O adds to favorite rooms

6:44 AM
Coding in this way hurts my brain. I coded vertically by copying code:
0
A: Duct tape can fix mothersday

QuincunxBefunge 98 var abc = function(){}; display: table-* + , new {area = ""} byte z = x + y; "1,23,4" String[] temp = data.split("\\s+\\^,?\"'\\|+"); List<Set<Integer>> foo; : base(name) 10001.10010110011 [5326, 4223, 1204] http://stackoverflow.com/q/23044400/1896169 Runnable prs = new Runnable() {...

Terrible
Never doing that again
Unless someone asks a bunch of Befunge questions on SO. :-)

1 hour later…
8:11 AM
@ChrisJester-Young I've seen some research on the linguistic gender of inanimate objects influencing the adjectives people use to describe them. Speakers of languages where bridges were masculine using words like "strong", and speakers of languages where they're feminine using words like "beautiful". Not 100% convincing, but interesting.
@mniip Without the crap about Einstein? (Anyone want to post a Prolog answer? I might, but I'll have to refresh myself on syntax because it's been about 12 years since I wrote any Prolog).

8:29 AM
@PeterTaylor It just happend some hours ago that someone wanted to post a Prolog answer.
And he successfully did.

2 hours later…
10:17 AM
Why did this get reopened without any improvement codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/26778/…
That's exactly why code trolling happened...
And I believe the underlying problem is the low rep limits for reopen privileges.

2 hours later…
12:15 PM
When you leave debugging code in your golf ;_;

@m.buettner Therefore, graduation.

@Doorknob yeah we've been saying that for a while now, but it's not something we can just decide, right? it's something we need to work for. so what needs to be done? :D

Yeah, the SE community team hasn't exactly been exceedingly helpful on telling us that

1 hour later…
1:28 PM
sigh
I wanna rewrite stackexchange chat now

Why @Trimsty?

Rewrite the chat (content) or the chat (engine)?

@ProgramFOX Wanna make a bot, but, yeah
@Howard the engine

That makes more sense. What is wrong with the current one.

Ah, ok.

@Doorknob Nice commit message
@Doorknob Also, thanks ;D I'll write my bot as a module and port your code over to Python :3

I think Manish had a Python chat interface too. Let me find it...

@Doorknob Thanks insert you can't google that meme

I fear robots will take command in this chat room in the near future ;-)

another chatbot that runs in the browser: github.com/Zirak/SO-ChatBot

1:34 PM
@Howard Mine's both a utility robot and a general chatbot
@nderscore Lotta bots there ;3 but thanks :P
@Doorknob Do you know which Python version that bot is?
@Doorknob Looks to be 2.

@Trimsty Not entirely sure. I didn't write it

@Trimsty You can ask @Manishearth, who wrote the bot.
He should be pinged now.

installed it, looks like it's python 2 ;3

... I was about to post that, and my chatbot beat me D:
Anyway ^^ what do you think?

1:47 PM
I agree with your answer, so +1
But if someone wants to share a golfing language he/she created, should it be CW or not?

@ProgramFOX As in "Hey, look at this new language I made!" ?

(my stars speak for me)

hi

@Doorknob Yes, as in that.

morning

1:49 PM
evening :P

@ProgramFOX That's... not even a question. That wouldn't be suitable for SE at all.
hey @TheDoctor!

Ah, ok @Doorknob.

I'm reading Coding Horror!

@Doorknob "How can this custom language I made be improved? Can you please use it?"

I added another paragraph in the answer to clarify that.
@Trimsty I don't know, that might be a bit too broad.

1:51 PM
Whachya doin?

"Can you please use it" is definitely unnecessary though. :P

@Doorknob Perhaps "How can I improve I/O in my language?" could fit...
maybe

@Trimsty Indeed, that's actually an example in my post.

@Doorknob I didn't check the new version :P
ah
yes

"What mathematical functions could I add to my new language's stdlib" - ?

1:53 PM
That sounds like a "big list" question, therefore it should be CW. But so far we've accepted "tips for golfing in X," so I don't see why that wouldn't be on topic.
I added that as an example as well

related, perhaps standard I/O functions in languages should have a standard :P
oh, bot, must not get distracted codes furiously

So after we reach consensus on this, we can start posting these on PPCG, in order to replace code-trolling. It will have all the advantages of code-trolling (increased traffic, more users wanting to post here), and none of the disadvantages!

@Doorknob Is it okay for me to have a Jellybot account like DoorknobChatbot? Or should I run it on my main account?
yay! :D

@Trimsty As long as you're not doing any fishy cross-voting or anything, that's fine. (see also: meta.stackexchange.com/q/65604/180276)

Hey! I'm doing a bot too!

1:58 PM
Robot invasion!

@TheDoctor @Doorknob @Howard already predicted this!
(extreme ping storm)

25 mins ago, by Howard
I fear robots will take command in this chat room in the near future ;-)
:P

hold on, gotta register my account and get some rep
baibai
...

@Trimsty 20 rep on any SE site (other than SO or MSE) is enough to chat. Perhaps a more active site will be easier to get rep on. ;)

y'all got any more of dem logout buttons?
@Doorknob I'm still on 1 rep on SO iirc. I find it easier here :3

2:01 PM
@Trimsty It's in the SE menu at the left of the top bar.
Heh, okay

@Doorknob How unorthodox o: but thanks

Alright, time to eat breakfast for me now

I got mine with "How to golf in processing" @TRimsty

@Doorknob In line with your post I think this question has no business being CW.

@m.buettner Note that I said in the post: "This is not yet policy, so please do not treat it as such."

I agree with m

Found a question I could answer to get some rep ;3
5
Q: Challenge: compress co-occuring columns into cartesian product

ranguThis challenge is inspired by a problem I encountered recently out in the real-world, though ultimately I cheated and found a workaround. Challenge The input is a space-separated table of characters (each line is a row, and every line will have the same number of columns). Your challenge is to ...

I'm not going to do anything until we have a very clear consensus on this. (That appears to be true so far, but it hasn't even been an hour yet.)

@Doorknob I thought you might say that. ^^ I think we have to by one option though until the consensus is decided. And choosing that would be based on precedent. In this case that's at looking how other SE sites do it: a) this is a specific question about code golfing, b) this SE is about code golfing; hence, this is a perfectly regular question and shouldn't be CW. If anything needs to be based on a community consensus it's only the opposite decision.

2:31 PM
@mniip That sounds far too broad to me. An answer would include the entire API of Mathematica, which is already a book.

@trimsty that's generally what you do here :P

But if we're as fast as in the code trolling case, the consensus will probably be reached by the end of the weekend. ;)

well it's more specific than "how could I improve"

@TheDoctor :P

@m.buettner Sure, but we haven't even waited a full hour to decide what we want to do with these questions. I think it's important to at least wait a day to get a broader view of what the community thinks.
I will unwiki the answers, for now.

2:33 PM
@m.buettner Thanksgiving weekend? ;)

@Doorknob is that even possible? o.O

@m.buettner Yeah, I suppose I'll have to manually unwiki new answers as they come in.
You think I should pin the meta post I made to decide on this more quickly?

@PeterTaylor keeping my statements vague makes it harder for people to hold them against me :P
@Doorknob yeah, sounds like a good idea

Alright, I shall do that.

2:38 PM
Yay for doing exciting things!
2

docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/… << anyone noticed row 18?

@Doorknob damn, I was just getting the link :D

Do we need that room anymore? or just until all the code-trollz have been eradicated?

Let's keep it until we've finished the project

2:43 PM
we're not done yet ;)

testt

Heeeey!

Am I performing within expected parameters?

2:58 PM
yes, yes you are
!!/random
Oh darn :(

Fixed that for you, @TARDIS :P

@TheDoctor I'm still stumped by the challenge.
lol

@trimsty of what?

@TheDoctor the golf i posted earlier to get rep for Jellybot

What will it do?
(the bot)

3:04 PM
Generic chatbot as well as having question ratings for you based on your chat history. It makes recommendations and points you to relative chat messages from the transcript
and other nifty stuff

I just got attacked by weeping angels

There you are, TARDIS

If there would ever be a TARDIS 2.0 it should be called reTARDIS
Just because it's punny.

Hey!

3:28 PM
@Trimsty Holy shit! Compiling your Factorials using gcj -O3 calculates 2e6 in 11.2 seconds on my machine (compared to ~2.6e5 in the same time on openjdk)

btw, jellybot account:
@14mRh4X0r That's...good...

Now to fix my algorithm :P

@14mRh4X0r I can calculate 1 million in about that time in Oracle Java

Damn you oracle.

ikr

3:32 PM
See, the issue is, I refuse to use non-free software.
If I have a choice, that is.

I stated n as 885000 in my post, since that's the fastest I could get it to go in 10 seconds
blag: i just met @14mRh4X0r who has never played minecraft or kerbal space program or the sims
:P
and by just met, i mean, met this week >_<

I do play Minecraft though, I have no choice. And I know Minecraft's internals well enough to know it doesn't mess with my system and/or private data
Started playing Minecraft back when I didn't really care about free software other than it was gratis.

@Trimsty Minecraft is slowly going libre
besides I've never played either of the other games

4:13 PM
something is going VERY wrong
whenever i log in as jellybot now, it tells me i'm logged in as Trimsty but it displays Jellybot's avatar
and the Jellybot user doesn't exist anymore?
?!?!
like
wth

... ?

It tells me the Jellybot user doesn't exist
*Page Not Found*
*We're sorry, we couldn't find the page you requested.*

I see a user deleted page

@Doorknob I intended this post: meta.codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/1547/… to be what you've accomplished with this post: meta.codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/1555/…
should mine be closed as duplicate? or merged somehow?

@Doorknob Well, isn't that interesting? :P

4:22 PM
Did you maybe accidentally merge yourself with that user? (Not sure how you would do that)

@Doorknob Cookie corruption? idk

@durron597 I think they're different enough to be left separate.

What I'm saying is, I intended mine to be what yours is :)

@Trimsty Hang on, let me investigate a little more...

@Doorknob But we can leave them both if you like

4:23 PM
But, logging in still works, just logs me in as Trimsty, so it can't be deleted. Merging isn't actually an advertised feature of the network, is it? :P

@Trimsty Well, the other mods don't have any activity logged recently, and I certainly didn't do anything, so it must have been something you accidentally did... O_o
I'll ask the people over in Teacher's Lounge

@Doorknob Wait

?

@Doorknob this could be very serious

Why?

4:24 PM
@Doorknob What could have happened was that my username and session ID got mixed up
@Doorknob I could inject another person's username into my cookie and delete their accounts...

Uhmmm.
I'll ask about this.

i don't
yet
:P

Hi

Hello, TARDIS who didn't get merged into their main account...
by glitch
RIP jellybot

4:30 PM
My bot is so cool!
Why? @trimsty

18 mins ago, by Trimsty
something is going VERY wrong
see around there
the two accounts seem to have merged
:/

Weird

I think I... might know what has happened. Not sure I'm allowed to say what, I'll ask

@Doorknob Even though that post is grammatically correct, it bothers me.

4:33 PM
^^ i'm having problems

Bots are terrorizing us before they're even finished
o:

@durron597 Cool I did a reply without using the mouse

Up arrow?
Oh. that edits

@TheDoctor No I downloaded the chat tools from that site

I see a way for it to work though

4:34 PM
Hmm?

shift ~ up arrow ~ up arrow ~ up arrow

How so?

xD
that should reply, not edit

I like python

with the extension it's ctrl + uparrow

4:35 PM
why aren't you intuitive, stackexchange chat D:

but this extension also makes the chat number visible

@durron597 can you press the up arrow multiple times?

@durron597 So I can just type it if I don't want to leave the home row
@Trimsty yes

@durron597 neat!
@Doorknob updates?
:/

@Trimsty We've pretty much figured it out.
Shog may or may not be coming in here to explain.

4:37 PM
@Doorknob Great! Well, if you don't want me to know the reason, I'd be fine with it just working properly :P

Don't do that to me :(

He told me to point you to this:
47
A: How should sockpuppets be handled on Stack Exchange?

Shog9How can I be sure I'm looking at a sockpuppet? You can't ever be 100% sure. What you think is a sockpuppet could in fact be my good friend Nog Shine, who loves everything I write, copies my writing style, and uses my computer to vote and post stuff when I step away for coffee. But in practice, ...

The most I can probably disclose without breaking the mod agreement is that it was an automated process.

It might have been a WebSockets glitch or something that made me vote on something on both accounts
but I didn't intentionally break any of those rules ^^'

No, it wasn't that.
All I can say is that it was an automated merge.

^^ the secretive world of the mod :)

4:42 PM
@Doorknob is the mod agreement secret?

@durron597 Heh, I don't think so. :P

...ah. Could they be separated again, or, do I use the bot on my main account now?
wait
did it merge because i used the word 'selfies' in it's about me?!
o:

I highly doubt that this could be undone (except with the intervention of an SE employee).

k

I think i know how they detected it (i won't say)

4:45 PM
I'll set up a dual chat on console and interface it with my bot so we can both talk on the same account-
sigh

So, in a blatant subject change

TARDIS has materialized at Saturday, May 10 at 10:48:08 AM

Yay!

Has there been much discussion about the fact that, for example, GolfScript is going to just about always win challenges
but a really beautiful C or Java answer might be more "impressive"

I actually tried posting a challenge that restricted the use of those languages, but people didn't like it.

4:50 PM
@TheDoctor I knew it had to have happened before but I searched for the wrong things
Plus also I'm frustrated that I posted a Java answer to a question that's 25% shorter than the previous Java answer and it didn't get any upvotes. I don't really care about my rep in specific but just the fact that it seems people don't want to upvote answers that aren't the shortest answer period.
I personally have removed upvotes from answers when a different answer in the same language comes in shorter
but it seems that such practices aren't very common
and I tend to upvote all answers that are the shortest answer in that particular language, as long as it's a quality answer objectively

This, by the way, adds to the fact that PPCG will never get out of beta if we don't get more users with north of 10k rep, which means we need to be a lot more generous about voting

YES
Woops, capslock is too close to shift
You should rant about this in a meta post, i'm sure it would get a lot of attention

Bye bye

Gtg for lunch

5:00 PM
Bye!

7:04
another day burnt

@Trimsty if you add an openid to an account (for example, while trying to log in whilst already logged in), the accounts get joined.

@ManishEarth I'm not allowed to know that ;3

YOu are

TheDoctor didn't leave to get TARDIS' reputation
and, if I am, why have I not been informed?
32 mins ago, by Doorknob
The most I can probably disclose without breaking the mod agreement is that it was an automated process.
hooray, more subjective exclusion

i'd enter that
too bad I'm myself :I
I'm renaming Jellybot and remaking it. Screw not making sockpuppet sockpuppets.

@Trimsty He may not have known about this auto thing
this particular one
I'm saying that this could have been a cause, and this particular automated merge process is no secret

6:04 PM
@ManishEarth Thanks. For now I'm being overly paranoid about disclosing information. :P

6:45 PM

I need to make it join the room
