Same case here. Can't see the post
@Morons You (and anyone) can modify the card created by me. No hassles.
@Rachel I cant' understand this emotion ^_^ . The list of emoticons en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_emoticons shows a lot of results. Does this mean joyful or embarrassed?

@Ubermensch It generally means "cheerful" Urban dictionary

09:33
@MarkTrapp Generally. But I amn't sure about Rachel (albeit in a lighter sense). Thinking how would an AI machine would perceive this?
user2334
@Ubermensch Why are we worrying about how AI machines interpret casual conversation? Are you an AI machine?
10:24
@MarkTrapp Trying to be one. Infact trying to visualize and create one (at least by this decade or within my lifetime). And its just a splatter of my thought. Thanks for the reply though.
user2334
@Ubermensch Being a human is pretty awesome, though. ^_^
11:33
@Morons @Jae I'm seeing @Rachel's draft, everything seems to work normally, ping @Jarrod to check if you still don't see it.
@Rachel Love the post! Suggestion: Maybe a bit more detail in the steps section, a personal anecdote for each step perhaps?
Or better yet, links to relevant open questions on Programmers. That'd be awesome...

@Jarrod: Can you tell me why I can't see Rachel's draft? I see the list of drafts, I just can't see the actual draft itself.

@Jarrod Same here.. Sill cant see it.
@Jarrod Same case here. Can't see it. No hyperlink
@MarkTrapp But a thinking machine would be even more awesome (-_-)
14:47
@Jae @Ubermensch I'm not sure why - I'll look into it this morning and get back to you. Its probably a security setting that needs to be flipped.
@Jarrod Thank you.
15:16
@Jarrod .. don't forget about me!
16:09
@Jae, @Ubermensch, @Morons - there is a permissions setting w/ the group of Contributors not being able to see posts they didn't write themselves. Wordpress' ACL system isn't fluid, so I can't grant specific rights to groups or even people. I'll have something this afternoon about what I can do.
@Rachel Awesome work on getting an article ready so fast! Reading it now.

@Ubermensch I sometimes use ^_^ as a happy smile. I'm not sure where I picked it up from.... probably from anime characters since their eyes are drawn kind of like that when they're smiling
@Morons @Ubermensch @Jae I believe Yannis was setup as an Editor, while you guys are contributers, so there's different permission sets on what you can do in wordpress
@YannisRizos I'll see about expanding those steps a bit. Do you have any suggestions?
@Rachel Suggestions? Not really, and I probably won't be very productive on the blog for at least a month, work is a bit crazy. Will proofread and throw random ideas, but right now I'm spending all my avail P.SE time on mod stuff - mostly reading tons of MSO posts...
19:06
@YannisRizos Thats understandable, I think that's all we were really asking from Editors anyways. Did you have any ideas of P.SE questions that would be good links? I was looking for a good one on gathering requirements, but I can't find any. That'd be a great P.SE article

Q: How should a developer reject impossible requirements?

SparkHere's the problem I'm facing: Quote From Project Manager: Hey Spark, I'm assigning you the task of developing a framework that could be used for many different iOS applications. Here are the requirements: It should be able to detect the thickness of the thumb or fingers being used to manipu...

Q: Freelancers: How Do You Go About Gathering Requirements?

Raj SekharanAs a freelance programmer: What is your process for gathering requirements from a client? How much time does the requirement gathering process take you? I know this is not fixed, and there are variables such as how prompt the client is in responding and such. In general, accounting for the dela...

Q: What is the proper way to create requirements documents?

iterationxRight now my supervisor is creating requirements documentation / specs for me using bugtracking software. This seems like a terrible idea to me, all the requirements are on these little tickets and I have to click around on this dumb webform to get at the requirements. What is a sane software s...

Q: Let users get requirements together on their own or guide them along?

Morgan HerlockerI'm sure everyone has experienced something like this. You go into a meeting with a client who has a project. They have no/few requirements in mind and the vaguest understanding of what they want/need. At this point, there seem to be two options: 1) Tell the users, "Ok, so I can't build somethin...

@Rachel I think those are good candidates, even if you just provide them as references to the reqs step.
btw if you do find a list for each step, we could also use them in their respective tag wikis
Right now I'm leaning towards just linking to the wikipedia article on requirements analysis and replacing it with our own P.Se blog post later on down the line
A [[systems engineering perspective on requirements analysis.]] Requirements analysis in systems engineering and software engineering, encompasses those tasks that go into determining the needs or conditions to meet for a new or altered product, taking account of the possibly conflicting requirements of the various stakeholders, such as beneficiaries or users. It is an early stage in the more general activity of requirements engineering which encompasses all activities concerned with eliciting, analyzing, documenting, validating and managing software or system requirements. Requiremen...
Most of the questions you linked are for specific situations, and I'm trying to keep this very generic for new programmers
@Rachel You will probably not find such a question, as general reference is mostly off topic and if on topic, then overly broad.
Yep, I'm hoping the blog can replace those off-topic P.SE questions
user20683
@Rachel That's pretty much my intent with the what programming language should I learn mega-crazy graph thingie
19:19
@WorldEngineer I saw that @Jae was interested in helping. If you want, I believe Gogole Docs has a visio-like tool which allows multiple people to work on the same diagram
user20683
@Rachel This may wind up turning into an application
user20683
the level of insanity in my mind on this subject is rapidly scaling to Haskellian levels
user20683
we might even reach APL or Prolog++
user20683
in terms of sheer crazy
Bah WordPress markup is obnoxious
@WorldEngineer Thanks!!
19:47
@YannisRizos @Jarrod Do you think I should leave the final step of "Profit!!!" in there? It's only in there for fun since is the standard final step of any list of steps towards a goal
@YannisRizos @Jarrod I updated my post a bit. I tried expanding a bit more on the steps section, and adding some links to external resources. If you have ideas on how to expand it further let me know. I'm home sick today, so my brain might not be functioning correctly
20:03
And I can't seem to find wording for the final paragraph of the "Build It" step that I like... Everything I come up with makes me feel like Yoda
"the more you learn, the better programmer you'll be"
I mean, wtf
So quote Yoda, "As Yoda says:"

@Rachel I can proofread some tonight - I'm swamped here currently trying to wire up Fedex shipping to some custom e-commerce platform written in procedural PHP.
Fed-ex shipping! Fun stuff!
I have done em' all, Fed-ex, UPS, DHL, 25 different local trucking companies..
yeah.... its a blast; I've spent the past seven months refactoring this site from a gigantic procedural mess; One by one I've been converting the components into Object Oriented goodness
no matter how much I wanted to - you don't throw code away
Would you like to team up for a "Joys of e-commerce" Blog post
?
i'm probably not qualified, honestly - there are much smarter people out there who have years of e-commerce work under their belt
i have about 8 :)
20:37
i have...............7 months

Jae
@Jarrod: In that case, can I become an "Editor"? I think I can help with proofreading and the likes also...
@Jae I think for the time being everyone is going to have Editor level access and up, at least until I can get more advanced ACL features figured out
The only stipulation I have is to remind everyone - "Don't accidentally PUBLISH anything"

please save everything as a drat

@Jarrod: So does that mean that I have the permissions now? Or do you still have to set that up?
couple minutes
cool, honestly, i think we have a good team where don't have to worry about people doing malicious things
20:41
@Morons I agree, which is why I'm doing this
And the team is still small enough that it isn't difficult to keep tabs on what everyone is doing
@Jae, @Morons, @Ubermensch You should be able to see Rachels article now

@Jarrod: Thanks!
@Jae no problem - eventually I'll put together something on Meta about proofreading and etiquette

State of the Blog - report
Its been about two weeks since things got started - and in that time I'm proud to say that we have had 13 active volunteers taking part on the Trello board. There have been numerous discussions and collaboration and teamwork regarding ideas, topics, and writings.
And with no sign of slowing down - if anything, activity is picking up speed. We have one article written and currently under proofreading and review, with another four already in the works.
The best part (in my mind) - today I logged into Trello and noticed that several idea cards went through creation, discussion, voting, and approval with zero involvement from myself. To me this is a mark of just how fantastic and involved the P.SE community is.
The blog is moving forward and I think I can say with confidence that we're only a few weeks away from having a bi-weekly publication cycle; I'm even more confident that it will turn into a weekly publication within a couple months. To everyone that is involved - keep up the great work!
user2334
Yay!

Mine draft is up for review. Comment & suggestions are welcome. (Please look close for spelling and typo's, some always seem to slip through)
