Hey folks, a small doubt:

I have been going through a wikipedia article about norse mythology, where I have come across this:

fore-haft of Mjolnir (<-- Thor's hammer)

So, what does a fore-haft mean? Is it the handle, or the piece protruding ahead from the metal? (I'm not a native speaker, so was having a hard time understanding it!)
08:19
Hullo @Oscar! Welcome to the Cabin!
@Dawny33 O_O
I haven't seen that anywhere.
08:38
Hi, I am new here. Why can't I hear what you are talking?
@OscarLiu What do you mean?
Why should you hear it?
Oh, it said chat room, in Chinese, chatting is talking,speaking. But I only see words here rather than voice.
Chatting in the internet sense means just having a means of communication which is usually by writing.
We're communicating by writing here.
Though I would love a chat chat with @Dam.
No wonder. Thank you!
Does StackExchange have a writing site so that we can put short writing on it to let native speaks check its grammar and vocabulary?
@OscarLiu No, there are no proofreading sites on Stack Exchange right now.
08:46
Could you give me such sites? Usually I will write about 400 words.

Q: Alternative websites for proofreading

Andrew GrimmWhat websites are there where people can practice writing English, and have what they've written corrected by native speakers? (It'll be useful to point people to this question if they've asked a "question" that's purely "please proofread this text")

@Ϻ.Λ.Ʀ. Ha ha, anyways. Never mind. It means the handle of the hammer.

Had to read an entire mythology script for that :D
Thank you very much MAR, you really do me a great favor!
@OscarLiu Anytime
@Dawny33 Why couldn't they just use "haft"?
@Ϻ.Λ.Ʀ. Not sure. Maybe the Wikipedia guys were in a mood for mischief :D

But technically, fore means front, and haft means handle; so what does a front handle for a hammer mean?

(Damn, this tickles my brain)
08:56
@Dawny33 Meh, don't read too much into it.

Hi @OscarLiu! Welcome to the room!
Hi,Thank you for your answer, I still remember you. Your answer is perfect!
Glad to hear that! :D
I usually leave my avatar in a few chat rooms, even when I'm not really here. But you can ping me if you want anything. I'm usually around.
(Writing my name with an @ sign in front will ping me, e.g., this -> @OscarLiu will ping you.)
12:24
@Damkerng T. OK,Thank you. I am new here,so I am not familiar with some functions.
@OscarLiu Happened to everyone of us. This chat has quite a handful of non-obvious features. :D
(but useful. :-)

Q: What is the meaning of just in "I've just eaten a burrito"?

Some_Guy I've just eaten a burrito. Would this be correctly interpreted as "I've recently eaten a burrito" "I've only eaten a burrito" Or are both valid readings of the sentence? Why? In case it isn't obvious, I'm aware of both meanings being valid for just. But does one take precedence over ...

@StoneyB , how are you?
I like to chat with you, @StoneyB.
Hi, @Magsi. I'm afraid I'm in the middle of work right now, so there's likely to be long pauses in any conversation!
@StoneyB. It's OK.
You may carry on.
We will continue it in leisure time.
@StoneyB. Your profile picture is like an old scientist.
I love it.
@DamkerngT. How are you?
@Magsi It's the 18th century critic and lexicographer Samuel Johnson.
Good, thanks, how are you?
15:22
Samuel Johnson (18 September 1709 [O.S. 7 September] – 13 December 1784), often referred to as Dr Johnson, was an English writer who made lasting contributions to English literature as a poet, essayist, moralist, literary critic, biographer, editor and lexicographer. Johnson was a devout Anglican and committed Tory, and has been described as "arguably the most distinguished man of letters in English history". He is also the subject of "the most famous single biographical work in the whole of literature," James Boswell's Life of Samuel Johnson. Born in Lichfield, Staffordshire, Johnson attended...
Oh, I see.
Me too, thanks.
@D@DamkerngT.
> - Now, who was this man?
- Samuel Johnson, sir.
- All right. What did he have to say about patriotism?
- He said it was the last refuge of a scoundrel, sir. I'm sorry.
@CopperKettle. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
You're welcome!

Hello, can someone help?
I can try.
A friend of mine asked me: "What's the border like on this?"
His girlfriend is visiting the UK, she's planning to stay for 6 months,
and he asked me "so, what's the border like on this?"
I don't know what the question means
I'm afraid I don't know either.
Not sure what "border" he was referring to.
16:19
yeah...
I thought he was talking about the uk border agency...
Hmm... But the UK doesn't have a close neighbor, I think.
(I've never been there.)
Thank you for trying to help, anyway, and it's been a long time since we talked last,
how have you been?
I'm good, thanks! How are you?
It's been sooo cold here in Kyoto (Japan) these few days
I wonder if he meant "boarder", but that's a long shot.
@choco Ahh... take care. Keep yourself warm.
16:24
"What's the boarder like on this?"
Ohhh
Is she going to share the room with someone else?
But still I don't understand lol
I think she's staying at his place...
Oh!
Then "boarder" doesn't make sense.
Hmm
lol
@DamkerngT. Thank you!
Is it not cold where you are?
No problem. I wish I could help more.
A little, but not very cold.
16:26
Good...
It's about 25C here.
Ohhh!
Comfy, right? :-)
You mean, it's because you're in a warm room?
Is it not cold outside??
It could be a little colder outside, but not much.
16:27
Ohh nice...
I think even when it's raining it's rare that it will get down below 20C.
Wow!
Is it snowing over there?
Yeah we had a little snow yesterday
Nice! I like snow!
(I like snow cause there is no snow over here!)
16:30
I love snow too! But the snow here is so wet, and goes away so quickly
Aww... no snowman, then?
No snowman... yeah he'll melt in the afternoon..
Hehe, so we can't ski around here, either
How far would you have to travel if you wanted to ski?
16:34
Maybe we'd have to go to another prefecture... it'd take like 3 hours by bus, maybe...
We've been having less snow every year, because of global warming, they say
nods -- That's not very far! You can go there and back in the same day!
@choco Aww
Yeah! It's just I'm lazy... lol
:D
Gotta go, it was nice talking to you after a while
Nice talking to you as well. See you around!
16:36
Say hi to snailboat for me! Ciao <3

Q: Improving my listening skills

UstanakDoes anybody know any website (or app) to make text to speech? I've found this one, but I'd like to know if there's a better choice.
