hello, I'm new and I have a question
a question about comments on ELL
Sorry I don't know where to ask
why do some questions have no "answers" -- but it seems like people are answering the question in the comments?
why don't they just post an answer?

Q: Commenting vs. Answering

EmmabeeI'm new to StackExchange, and trying to get a good feel for the difference between commenting and answering, but there are a few points still confusing me and I'd appreciate feedback from the community. [Also, I apologize if this has been discussed previously. I could not find a normal search fe...

Q: Questions with no answers but are answered in comments

amblinaI'm pretty new to this site. I was wondering what the accepted practice was with questions like this where OP has been answered in comments but there are no answers to 'accept'. What does the expression or slang "Bootstrap" means and which expressions contain it in Australian Slang? Open since...

I answer in comments when I haven't got time to develop a full answer, one which not only responds to the question but puts the answer in a larger context.

Can someone help me with a sentence?
Is this correct?
"Anywhere with this symbol, indicate that is your content."
Anonymous
Hi, @LGL! I'm not sure what your sentence means exactly.
LGL
LGL
I have an app but there is a symbol that tell people if is there content or not.
Is this how you tell them:
"Anywhere with this symbol, indicate that is your content."
3 messages moved from Language Overflow
"This symbol indicates that the content is yours."
LGL
LGL
Oh Okay, from your point of view what Im lacking in english?
:)
I need to improve
or this @DamkerngT.
Allow iCloud in settings to not lose your indicator.
It sounds a little weird, but I understand what it says.
"Enable" perhaps, instead of "Allow".
Or "Turn on".
LGL
LGL
13:33
Yeah I think Enable sound better.
How about if Enable is already set in initial.
"X is already enabled" is better.
LGL
LGL
"iCloud is already enabled, to not lose your indicator."
Anonymous
I'm no good at this sort of writing, but I'll try . . .  "To avoid losing your indicator, go to Settings and make sure 'iCloud' is enabled!"
LGL
LGL
iCloud is already enabled, to avoid losing your indicator.
I like this
@snailboat Thank you.

@LGL I don't think "to avoid losing your indicator" is used properly in that sentence.
LGL
LGL

:/
To avoid losing your indicator, iCloud is already enabled.
Anonymous
Maybe it was that comma.
Wait, what does your message mean?
LGL
LGL

@DamkerngT. for example the symbol is the indicator.
Now for indicator to stay the same I want to tell people that iCloud is already enabled to not lose there indicator
You mean your app has already enabled iCloud so that the user will not lose their indicator (or indicators)?
LGL
LGL
14:22
Yes
indicators
14:47
A basic phase (in the sense that it's easy to understand by everyone) would be either "iCould has been enabled in order to avoid losing your indicators" (if you app just enabled iCould) or "iCould has already been enabled" (if your user just did something expecting that iCloud wasn't enabled).
Anonymous
We've enabled iCloud for you so you won't lose your indicators! ← Friendly? :-)
LGL
LGL
OK @DamkerngT.
@snailboat Neat!
LGL
LGL
@snailboat Yeah I think its important to keep it friendly, cause that way they will feel like user is being force to use it

My sentence is for the situation where the app automatically enabled iCloud.
LGL
LGL
14:52
yes the app automatically do enable iCloud.
Anonymous
Yay
LGL
LGL
Thank you so much. Oh gosh 5 months I can't wait to get this done
I have so many english error.
Just hang in there! It takes time, but we all can be improved.
LGL
LGL
Yeah, but i been in US for 14 years now :( lol
I learn Programming faster then english lol
@LGL I guess programming languages are supposed to be easier because the syntax is rule-based.
Natural (human) languages are just "sort of" rule-based, so it's not as easy.
LGL
LGL

True, not to brag, but Like now I know 11 programming languages, Farsi and little spanish, but I feel like my English is lacking, I can't figure out what is it. :/ @DamkerngT.
And I know in any field to be successful is necessary to have good english.
@LGL Unfortunately, that's true.
(Hmm... or fortunately? :-)
LGL
LGL
lol, but I understand pretty well.

You must have location services turned on for Happens. We only use your location to show posts and for you to be able to compose.
Is that correct guys?
Ugh man I'm just gonna hire someone for proof reading from Fiverr, lol
@LGL Could be a good idea. :D
Your first sentence should be okay, given that you really have several "services".
LGL
LGL
Yeah lol @DamkerngT.
16:10
Your second sentence is a little clumsy near the end.
LGL
LGL
i'm going to practice my english after this app.
We use your location only when displaying posts and composing new posts.
(I try to be concise, so it may not be that perfect, but it should do.)
LGL
LGL
I have a lot of sentences, I think the proof reader is a good idea.
Indeed. Lang-8 is another possible solution for casual proofreading.
