Q: How is the question about a whether weight strategy makes sense off topic?

Charlie BrumbaughThis question was migrated to ELL despite, Being specifically about backpacking (there are other variations of the saying that have the subject of money or writing that would be off topic) Two answers that explained how the saying specifically related to backpacking and whether it actually made...

And yet, on the first three hikes I did on the Grand Canyon North Rim last May, with great canyon and river views, I met only one other hiker.
On my 2017 backpacking trip in Iceland I met one hiker in 12 days. This year in Norway and Sweden I met zero hikers in 10 days. The article fails to describe how increasingly many visit increasingly few places, whereas other places see less visitors than before. Or perhaps that's not the case in N-America?
Actually, it must be the case in N-America. The west is so vast. There are plenty of areas to find solitude. I'm sure that in a remote corner of Grand-Staircase-Escalane National Monument, hiking 10 days without seeing anyone else should be possible.

@gerrit Once you get up around 10,000 feet and higher and go well off trail, you can hike for a week or even two in the Sierra and see practically nobody -- maybe zero to three groups in the distance.

@gerrit Hi Gerrit! That geotagging question is awesome!!! First, I'm really sorry for adding the geocaching tag to it. I initially read it wrong. @CharlieBrumbaugh was kind enough to quickly fix it!
@gerrit I've been watching the issue of social media on the Leave no Trace site. It's controversial and has taken them a long time to come to a consensus, but they genuinely care, and I think it's great that you based your question on that part.
It's easy to forget the problems people cause when we over-visit someplace. It wouldn't have occurred to me. I myself asked a question about seeing bison in Yellowstone and know now that there are so many people lined up to do that, we're actually making it harder for them to live there, and for the staff to handle the park.
I'd never accuse you of that, of course. I just like that you brought the idea to people's attention, and that it has gotten so much attention!
As people are saying, of course it's a balance. One positive thing about the social media aspect is that people can learn more about the things that need protection. There are endangered animals and plants all over the place that pictures teach us, especially since we didn't know they exist.
@Willeke Hi! Thanks for this guidance!
If I add an answer, I'll try to follow it carefully!
