Q: Let's hold language in comments to the same standard as posts

Tim PostThrough his never-ending sense of wonder and curiosity, my colleague Jon Ericson recently posted some findings on his exploration into the possibility of ...hastily written... questions essentially becoming an (inevitable or not) self-fulfilling prophecy. While we're getting a little out in the...

That is my new favorite post!
@ab2 Congratulations on 10k!!!!!
@ab2, I think I confused you about my heated bird bath question. I haven't written an update to it yet. I was just telling you that I have one, and was reminding myself to get to it! Sorry I mislead you!
@TelKitty I love your videos! I subscribed to your YouTube channel, so, keep them coming!

@StrongBad, I just saw some of your stuff at Health. Obviously one of your fields of expertise is hearing or the lack thereof! I wanted to chat with you over there, but notice you're not active there. We don't need to chat about it here, either, but I'm just curious... Are you an ENT? Otolaryngologist? Audiologist? Personal experience with people with hearing issues? None of the above? None of my business? Thanks for your help for people struggling with difficult ear problems.
01:28
@Sue none of the above. I am an academic researcher interested in auditory perception.

@StrongBad Way cool. It's an important and interesting field.
I just found some of your interesting stuff at psychology/neurology, which I must have joined a long time ago but totally forgot it was there! I'm fascinated by those too.

@Sue I'm back in so going to reply to a lot of things. Yes - swans. My primary school mascot was the mute swan, as we had many of them in our lake. And we tended them "for the Queen"
Now folks helpfully showed me how to edit the tag line as well, I will do that shortly. To be honest, all the controversy around the word "outdoormanship" means I'm more than happy we aren't going to use it. I personally understand the "man" bit to mean human, but if it excludes others, then we definitely don't need to use it.
@Sue don't worry, @Willeke definitely deserved it. I felt like I was probably in third place anyway, and so it turned out. Thank you for your comment though.
@ab2 congratulations! 10k is an excellent milestone
@TelKitty using a stove in a tent is an excellent way to die of carbon monoxide poisoning. Many people do that every year.

@RoryAlsop Millions if not billions of people use gas stoves in enclosed dwellings. Apartments & houses generally has less ventilation than a tent, especially in winter. Some people like to keep windows and doors closed at all times when it's cold.
@RoryAlsop Also please provide statistics when making such a claim.
It's almost like urban myth that claims many people have been eaten by sharks every year. The truth is that, there really aren't that many sharks interested in eating people.
Houses are not tents
People also die of CO poisoning in houses
You need to think about what impact you have when saying it is safe to use a stove in a tent. It is unsafe for various reasons, as pointed out by others
I don't need to provide statistics - a very brief Google shows you
You need to think about what impact you have when saying it is safe to use a stove in a tent. It is unsafe for various reasons, as pointed out by others
It's entirely different from the shark myth, so I'm not sure why you brought that up
You make the claim, you need to back it up with statistics. Not me.
I have already said precaution should be made while using a stove.
The truth is that, you are outdoors, millions of things can kill you. People can only take precautions.
Google will show you many examples of people die while hiking, so should people stop hiking?
Lighting campfire is unsafe, ocean swim is unsafe, multiday hikes in the snow is unsafe. So is using gas stove. But hey, guess what kills more people - driving!
Many people use gas stoves, many people drives. But much more die from traffic accidents.
@RoryAlsop Your argument is invalid!
I am using the example of shark in the ocean to show you an example of unreasonable fear.

@TelKitty At least for me the problem is with the term "fuel stove". It might be a language misconception, but for me that refers to a petrol stove. Even if that's not true, I am pretty sure it includes petrol stoves. And those definitely aren't safe to use in an enclosed, unventilated space (no I am not going to get sources for that). Gas stoves are better in regards to CO production, but they still do. You probably won't get a lethal dose outright, but it still isn't ideal.

@RoryAlsop Changing words to make people happy is a rabbit hole that never ends (see egg in salad emoji for example) I don't think that post has made anybody feel more included, if people wanted to do something about that, there are comments to flag outdoors.stackexchange.com/a/19809/8794
@CharlieBrumbaugh it's an easy thing to do, that doesn't take anything away, and can help gain acceptance with a slightly wider audience.

Hi All.
heya @Willeke
how's it going?
Lovely weather here, warm but not 'hot' hot, but work comes in the way of enjoying.
I am getting used to the mod options and needs, but still need to learn a bit more.
hehe good :)
here its cold by Indian standards :'D
19:31
Is that a good thing, being 'cold'?
@CharlieBrumbaugh, I did see the mention of 'man' in one of the words about the site again and I do not remember if I shared my opinion. Being female I do not feel anything negative about the 'all inclusive' words that use man or other male indications. That is how it is in English (and in my native Dutch.) And I feel the 'gender neutral' versions odd.
@Willeke The changing of words that I find funny is how some users have been editing all Canadian Geese to Canada Geese
While the answers indicate that while one is better, the other one is often used and accepted in everyday use.
I found that 'Canada or Canadian geese' Q and its answers a very good read.
Someone asked about how much time geese spend sleeping and then got mad that more people answered the terminology question :)
