@CharlieBrumbaugh, @RoryAlsop question. The site analytics shows that we have around 8.5k visits per day. But area51 shows 0 visits per day :D Do you guys have any info on where area51 gets the info from?
@Ricketyship area51 stats haven’t worked in quite a while
12:37
Yeah. We finally dropped to zero now at area51. There was a meta question on this on SE. The response was that the google analytics was not working then.
14:11
@Ricketyship I think we collectively gave up on leaving Beta a long time ago, I haven't checked area51 in ages.
@Aravona haha. I guess so.

3 hours later…

I mostly quit caring about getting out of beta once I realized that the only cool thing about it would be getting a theme and people seemed to think it wasn't a good idea to fake one in the meantime
Yeah. I don't really see an advantage apart from the theme. And we anyway seem to have a steady flow of views per day. The only thing which lacks is the number of questions that get asked. But if we had a huge number of questions, that would create a problem in itself with editing and stuff.
Still being in beta is an extra argument for not aggressively closing questions for silly reasons
17:24
Question, when does the delete option appear for an answer? Is it only after someone raises a flag on it?
It has to score below zero
ah okay. I usually do not down vote, but try to leave a comment to see if the author wants to change the answer. But by the next time I come back, there usually would be some 2 people already voting for deletion. :D
So i thought it was some flag that lead to it.
If I flag as VLQ or NAA I donwvote and vote to delete to speed the process up
Will keep that in mind.
If I feel the answer is an attempt but was not that thought through, then I usually leave a comment. If it's a real spam, I flag it.
Neither of the cases do I downvote, for spams, i'll go ahead and downvote from now onwards.

Q: Shoes are not boots

Charlie BrumbaughThis question Shoes for hiking in Australia? has been closed as a dupe of What do I need to look for in good, quality hiking boots? . However, the dupe target is about hiking boots, and the question is about shoes. People will go hiking in shoes instead of boots all of the time, in fact that i...

My doubt is that many use the words boots and shoes interchangeably
So the answers in themselves on the question are very generic in nature. They don't talk about shoes or boots. They could be applied for shoes as well.
Its way more clear cut than Canada vs Canadian geese
you mean the difference between boots and shoes?
but the answers are too generic. That's my concern. The top accepted answer says - good fit, less seams and nice grip. I could say that for sandals as well :P
But when coming from Google if you were looking for shoes it wouldn't make sense to end up on a page about boots
17:42
Unless you say trainers.
We could open it back, but I feel many use the word boot and shoe interchangeably when it comes to hiking. And that might close it back.

Thanks for this ^. Was a bit of an irritation to see the feed all the time
and to click that feed to be dismissed
That and the the tags are about the only powers as room owner I have
I've voted to reopen anyway.
My feeling is that if I asked the difference between the two, then it would downvoted as too simple
17:48
A question more on the lines of what situations is a boot better than a shoe in hiking might make more sense.
although that could get closed as opinion based.
:D
you should form a tag for the swiming-sungoggles for this chat room :D
room topic changed to The Base Camp: Welcome to 2018 [hunting-predestrians] [swiming-sungoggles] [turkeys-in-the-ocean] [what-t-rex-ate]
is it scat?
Porcupine quills and hair
18:06
There’s scat as well at the bottom centre. Also, those quills I confused for grass.
I am threading some mysql imports, and interestingly enough, more threads can make it run slower
18:26
might be the contention on disk
i'm not sure if mysql has WAL, but if it does, not sure if imports use them.
WAL for sure will get limited by your disk iops
At least I have a good logging system so I can see what needs to be sped up
Now I am confused
A cougar in a bathtub? That question would be inscope at Pets. — James Jenkins 17 mins ago
I thought that being wild it would be in scope here
I'm not sure how that would be in scope for pets.se
19:02
lol i just saw the meta answer :D
definitely pets.se :P

@Ricketyship, did you see my pics of our flat landscape?
Yes yes!!! gorgeous :)
The historians in this area are very happy when they find a level difference of about 20 cm, (as that denotes a very old bit of landscape.) One meter or more level difference is more likely to be a more recent man made things.
Thanks
Dikes are 1 to 5 meter height difference and always man made.
I think you now understand why we more often use a bike than our feet in such a landscape.
haha indeed.
such a flat land :) must be some fun to bike there
Are there forests? Like thick forests? Or are they all man made garden types?
You can go endlessly, only have to give way on main roads and where you have to cross water, (which is rather common). I found the first bridge on my route opened because a boat had to pass.
But the other side of the coin, when there is wind it is quite strong and you always seem to ride into it.
Good night
