Hi to all friends! I've had some medical procedures over the last few weeks and have spent very little time on the computer. I've been easing back in over the last few days, but haven't been able to concentrate well enough to chat. If anyone has pinged me, I apologize for not responding. Also, once a person's out of the room for over a week, the pings don't work. I haven't yet read the transcript, just very tiny bits here and there. I'll be working on catching up.
I hope things have been going well in here without drama (or at least a manageable amount.) I'm not good with drama, even if I contribute to it, which is the height of hypocrisy!
So.... Hello to @ab2 @CharlieBrumbaugh, @WedaPashi, @Willeke, @JonathanLandrum, @Ricketyship, @RoryAlsop, @StrongBad, anyone else I may have missed. A very special hello to @Aravona! I was afraid we'd lost you! I've seen your website and it's awesome! I hope everyone is well!

@Sue Glad to see you back, I think that we are in a mostly drama free period, will have to see how long it lasts, although there is the yanni vs laurel argument going on around the internet at the moment.
@StrongBad What's a double tied in rope disaster?

1 hour later…
04:47
@Salmansadiq I think you were going to ask for knife recommendations here if I remember correctly
05:05
@Sue I hope you are better now. Well there’s been some drama. But yeah, it’s not too crazy.

08:47
@Sue hey Sue, how are you? :)
09:04
Trad protection is overrated

@CharlieBrumbaugh the photo makes it look like the kid is tied in about 8 feet short with a butterfly and the father is tied into the end like normal. I think the idea is that if the kid falls there is enough slack that he will be caught by the belay and not pull his father off.
@CharlieBrumbaugh both of them are wrong. There. Sorted :-)
The father has sent 5.14d and would happily solo the pitch without the kid. I think the idea is if the kid freaks out or gets hut this lets him react faster.
I hear a different word
14:18
so, @RoryAlsop, if that's related to the digital recording thinger going around, I hear a different word than the two choices, too.
14:33
Interesting - that's 4 of us so far then
(that I am aware of)
14:48
Evening all! And morning as well!
And afternoon :-)
:D afternoon Rory! I guess the weather has been good for you. You were nowhere to be seen yesterday.
Also, any of you guys do calisthenics?
15:50
I have been able to bike to work 3 times so far this week
I have been in council and board meetings in Ireland for 3 days. Not much opportunity to get online. Well, I've been getting emails and work done late at night, but not much during the day
What's Nalgene? Seems like i'm the only one who doesn't know about them
Its a brand of water bottles, very commonly used in the outdoors
Where? In US? Is it common in UK as well?
Not common here in India
In the US they are really common
16:01
Oh it's not common in UK. I saw @Aravona's comment saying she had no idea what it was.
All my stack exchange water bottles are nalgene I think
Maybe not the bicycles.SE ones
My wife has always bought nalgene so they must be reasonably common, at least in Scotland
Interesting! How a brand becomes so common that people use it as a reference.
More like how Xerox is the word for photostat machine :D
Although nobody says Xerox. They all say photocopy something
Gotta go - plane about to take off
Bye
Have a safe flight Rory!
Now that we seem to agree that its okay to put boiling water into nalgenes, are people going to go reverse there downvotes?

A: Hot water system as a heater for car camping?

Charlie BrumbaughIt’s decently common to use a nalgene water bottle inside of a sleeping bag to help stay warm during the night. Before you go to bed you fill the water bottle with water warmed over a stove and place it inside the sleeping bag. It is certainly possible to use boiling water but then you will wan...

I'm not sure if I would put boiling water in a nalgene bottle...
@RoryAlsop People do it quite frequently as a hot water bottle

1 hour later…
19:09
@RoryAlsop xerox is common in India 😆
I never heard it used in the Netherlands, but am familiar with it from TV.
19:24
@Ricketyship here everyone just calls it a photocopier. And you photocopy pages. Corporate ones are either Xerox or canon
19:48
@CharlieBrumbaugh correct.i was just trying to find the right room
So about those knife recommendations.whats a good knife between 10 and 100 dollars
Looking for recommendations
20:05
pretty common in the US, too. i'd say it's probably 50/50 for both usages.
20:16
Admittedly here in the UK purple still say they will hoover the floor, rather than vacuum the floor

In my part of the US (BosWash Corridor), people say Xerox; no one wastes time saying photocopy or photocopier. As for hoovering, no one under 100 says that.
@Salmansadiq I would get a folding knife with a clip for your pants pocket, something like this, rei.com/product/892413/gerber-swagger-drop-point-knife?
22:02
Another brilliant idea add more indexes onto the primary column
