How do people feel about users finding where someone else has written an answer to a question somewhere on the internet and then copied that directly as their answer?

I hope this is a theoretical question.

@ab2 See this one outdoors.stackexchange.com/a/13082/8794 for an example of what I am talking about. There is a site that does animations of knots and they do that is hopes of getting traffic and and ad revenue. It doesn't quite feel right to take that information and post it here when one could take a rope and a camera and make your own pictures.
Same for this one outdoors.stackexchange.com/a/18616/8794 Someone wrote an article explaining how to belay and the steps. Any competent climber should be able to explain it and take your own pictures instead of taking traffic away from other people by using their own content.
I also don't like it when people use other peoples images and then don't bother to even attribute them.
There is a difference between quoting sources and quoting someone else's answer to a question as your answer.
I also don't like this one outdoors.stackexchange.com/a/15276/8794 because its pulling from other peoples efforts to create a glossary of mountain terms.
@ab2 Its not straight up plagarism which I have flagged I think twice in all my time here, but I still really don't like it.

So with those ones, @ShemSeger usually puts attribution in the alt text, however we generally recommend adding it explicitly into the post so it can be read. Shem - please do this.

@RoryAlsop My new thing is to hyperlink the image to the original, so when people click on the image it takes them to the source.

@Willeke I'd love to have a knotter's guild guy take a look at this knot. I came up with it looking for a better variation of the EDK (Euro Death knot, AKA flat overhand knot). To the best of my knowledge, and to the knowledge of everyone I've shared it with in the Alpine Club of Canada it's an original knot. We've been calling it the "shem-lock".
@Willeke I'm wondering if the International Guild of Knot Tyers has any knowledge of someone tying and using this knot prior to me.

With the pics from animatedknots.com it's actually not even the usual gray area, there is a copyright notice on that page and by reproducing the pics on SE, it gets published under some CC license (don't remember which one), which is definitely not compatible.

@imsodin Well now I feel guilty. I've always linked to grog, but out of respect for them I'll make an effort to sift through my answers and replace his images with original ones.
