@Rory: Morning!
Hey y'all
Was busy climbing mountains last all weekend which is why I've not been about
:)
@Liam excellent! what was the weather like?
any cool peak photos?
08:38
@RoryAlsop It was alright actually
We had one downpour but we were right by a bothy by then so we just sat it out in the dry
Here's me and "das hund" at the top of Foel Goch
Is your dog wearing Helly Hansen?
:-)
That's padding BTW, not fat!
He has his own insulated dog coat!
He's not really built of the mountains! very short fur and no undercoat!
@Liam great pic! Enjoyed yourself?
@Aravona yeah was a great day
8 hours....!
3 peaks!
08:58
@Liam brilliant :) sounds wonderful
Miserable today, this chat has really perked me up though :)
09:10
@Aravona Yesterday was horrible. I couldn't see the end of my road the weather was that bad. Fester (being exhausted after the previous days excecise) couldn't evne be bothered to go out for a poo. I had to drag him up the road
He made his daily turd reluctantly
@Liam aww poor thing! Yeah to top off my mood the weather here is miserable to boot.
I made a list of questions to ask while walking
It's easier to think of interesting things while outside!
09:30
@Liam sounds good
I feel the need to go out and do more in order to provide better answers.
Thought we have startes our geocache now... still needs a container but we have some items to start it off

Q: Which muscles you need to train additionally for climbing to avoid unbalances?

JonClimbing strongly trains your upper back, your forearms, biceps, legs and upper back. (http://healthyliving.azcentral.com/muscles-worked-during-rock-climbing-3416.html) However, if you don't pay any attention to your training effort you might get a climber's back or suffer other injuries due to a...

This question has a duplicate on sports.SE. Should it be deleted?
I've flagged it to the mods...I'm not sure what the procedure should be
09:54
Don't know... had an influx of duplicates and questions which should be migrated recently. Weda's swimming one would be better answered on sports as well.
10:11
@Liam: Hey there! Nice picture.. There is a handsome dog with a tall guy :-P
Looking all spooky in a bothy
11:02
@Liam the burning calories question is a good one - something I am interested in as well.
11:13
@Aravona I have ab out half a dozen of these.
I'm going to drip feed them over the next couple of days so as not to swamp everyone
It's amazing what you think of in the hills! :)
@Liam: Try Endomondo app. Thats even better
@WedaPashi Yeah, I use that. My girlfriend likes the nike one
@WedaPashi hi! (delayed)
@JohnB: Not a problem!
@liam: Ohk
11:40
@Liam I've friends who use the iphone app that comes with the step counter? Not sure who makes it though... when he was pitching a tent though it thought banging a tent peg in was a step lol
11:51
@JohnB Hey, hows things?
@liam: I hate my cellphone. MyTracks stopped working after I updated the software :-(
12:08
@Liam: Hehehe.. its an edit race over there :D Thanks for the edits mate!
@WedaPashi Yeah, I'll leave it for a bit till your finished!
You have a slight habit of adding unnecessary words! :D
@Liam: Yeah, I do :-P :-D Thats because I get over-whelmed when I type, anything other than a program :D
@Liam: I am done, you can go ahead and improve it grammatically now :-)
My pet. She is a bit notorious. But I am glad to have her :-)
12:30
@WedaPashi :D
12:41
@Weda awwww
New diet... very hungry :/
13:01
any of you guys going to the Kendall mountain festival?
@Liam no... sounds interesting
@Aravona See link above
@Liam yeah just loads dodge on a phone. Saw the info better on my pc.
Looks good... I would go but probably can't
We've just booked the whole weekend off. Go and have a mooch. Prob do a bit of climbing/walking at the same time
Already done one 230+ mile journey this year for a weekend... and now we might be going to scotland
Would love to go though!

Q: Subversion merge requires "Old style" even though all seems up to date?

LiamI recently moved from an old subversion server/repository to the latest version 1.8.9. The new repository was made from scratch on a new server and the old data was imported from scratch (we checked out the code from the old repository, exported it locally to remove all SVN bindings and checked i...

Sooooooooo much passive agression...!
13:41
@Liam ... this is why I've never posted on SO ... I will just look for answers.
@Aravona Drives me mad lately. So many w**kers on it
@Liam yup ... most people as well don't use google before asking on there... a quick search would remove 90% of SOs duplicates.
Sometimes I wonder if people ask on there just for the sake of asking a question!
@Aravona People use their stats on CVs and stuff now. So there is an ever increasing pool of people chasing the same questions. It's too crowded (mostly with crap) and too few questions that haven't already been answered. I've had enough now. I never check it anymore except when I need to. The quality of your average answerer is going down too
Anyhoo
I have loads of good question stored up :DD
13:57
@Liam: Totally agree
@Liam yeah thats why I supported the commit for a SE which will cut down crap on SO
Also @Liam Jon gave a good answer... though it means I burnt 1085 kcal minimum for my snowdon climb... shame I put on and didn't lose weight!
I wish I had more questions but people have mostly asked them...
Still hopefully some new blood will come in and ask some questions before @Liam and @Weda hog them all ;)

@Ara: Hahaha :D
Lol a newer user posted as I said that... and @Liam that's cool, special ink in that thing? - would a sharpie not do?
@Aravona No Never put marker pen on your rope. It can make the rope unsafe
@Aravona the solvents can break down the rope fibres
@Liam ahhh I see :)
That makes sense then.
14:14
@Aravona I will refrain from answering to give you an opportunity
also I have loads of work to do!
@Liam: Hahaah.. I just posted an answer and my tab was not refreshed, so I didn't see your answer.. :D
@Ara: Sorry about that now :D
@WedaPashi I would not stitch dental floss into your rope. That sounds like a really bad idea. If you break the sheath fibres you can signifcantly reduce the effectivness of your rope
@liam: I somewhat agree. But I have seen that process done by a veteran Sherpa when I had been to Nepal once.
All He said was: "If you haven't done it, do not just try and kill your rope. Learn it on a rope which is no longer usable for climbing. Once you learn, its safe!"
@WedaPashi hmm intersting. I'd made mention this. I'm not sure it's common practice
@WedaPashi a very interesting point though
btw, He did use that rope for climbing Shishapangma.
@liam: Being a less gifted climber, I have never found myself in a situation where I hard to mark it that significance. Wherever I needed to mark my rope, and that too with some permissible error, I used nylon bands. They don't move much up and down. May be plus-minus 2 feet here and there..
14:25
@WedaPashi It's useful for rappelling or even for spooling it
I missed a bit there... my phone is dying so soon I shall miss a lot

15:00
things are good, and yourself?
@soph-e Good thanks. What brings you to our little chat room?
@soph-e Or you just browsing though
just browsing through
I'm trying to muster the motivation to get work done
;)
@liam, Even I wondered, but @soph was there to have word the other day when u were trekking this weekend :-)
@soph-e Tell me about it
@liam to tell you @soph-e has climbed higher than I ever did. (He?)(She?) had been to 25K ft. :D
15:05
@WedaPashi I don't understand?
@liam: @soph has climbed a mountain which is 25K feet high. I have never climbed that higher. I am glad to have (him/her) here :-)
woo not 25k, 18k feet
weda was the one looking at summiting a 25k feet mountain next year(?)
Yes I am. Hopefully I will :-) even if I have to crawl to the summit :P
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wallunarahu this is my one and only mountaineering experience so far, but I'm looking forward to doing more when time permits
@soph-e Nice. Never been that high. they only go up to 3.5K in the UK
@soph-e français?
15:09
Yeah, I've been trying to see which challenging mountains there are on the east coast, they're all so far away, or tiny!
oui je suis francophone ;)
@soph-e non
@soph-e :D that's it. I've used up all my french
:D
hahaha!
that's pretty great :P
@soph-e Sono parlo a picola italiano
That's probably horribly wrong
haha, tambien hablas un poco espanol?
@soph-e Si poco espanol
15:11
:O Lets stick to english :D
que bueno :) me gustaria mejorar mi espanol, pero es dificil
haha
@weda what languages do you know? :p
@soph: English only for that matter. And a few local languages that are used in India.
@soph-e muy buena
yeah I heard india had many, many dialects
That's it. I'm done and I had to get google to spell check most of that!
15:13
I am planning to plan to learn German and then Spanish :D
room topic changed to The Great Outdoors: que bueno :) me gustaria mejorar mi espanol, pero es dificil [banana-measurements] [because-freedom] [desolate] [enthusiasm-of-weda] [queen-of-tgo] [shirtening]
hahaha i'm not sure if ''que bueno'' is correct, google translate seems to disapprove of it
I love how the chat shortens the URLs, that functionality should be implemented everywhere :o
No entiendo nada de español :D
@Weda in Greek I believe it means 'engagement' but in English it was meant to be a name derived from 'Avalon'
Part of Athurian legend.
@Ara: Whats 'Avalon' ? :D
'Weda' is Mad. 'Pashi' is derived from 'Prasad' :-)
15:19
@Weda part of Athurian Legend, Avalon is an Island, where Arthur gained Excalibur
@WedaPashi It was king arthurs castle, I believe @Aravona?
@Aravona I stand corrected
Oh, thats cool
@Aravona All based on a welsh legend you know. That's where the red dragon comes from
Varies on which story you read but I have read a lot of books on Athurian Legend. The oldest book I've read also completely contradicts the Guinevere and Lancelot having a love affair.
*The oldest known use of the dragon to represent Wales is from the Historia Brittonum,[2] written around 830; the text describes a struggle between two serpents deep underground, which prevents King Vortigern from building a stronghold. This story was later adapted into a prophecy made by the wizard Myrddin (or Merlin) of a long fight between a red dragon and a white dragon. According to the prophecy, the white dragon, representing the Saxons, would at first dominate but eventually the red dragon, symbolising the Britons, would be victorious and recapture Lloegr. According to the legend, th
The flag of Wales (Welsh: Baner Cymru or Y Ddraig Goch, meaning "The Red Dragon") consists of a red dragon passant on a green and white field. As with many heraldic charges, the exact representation of the dragon is not standardised and many renderings exist. The flag incorporates the Red Dragon of Cadwaladr, King of Gwynedd, along with the Tudor colours of green and white. It was used by Henry VII at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485 after which it was carried in state to St Paul's Cathedral. The red dragon was then included as a supporter of the Tudor royal arms to signify their Welsh descent...
15:21
@Liam I know :)
@Aravona Yeah it's all contridictory
@Liam: Oh, I never knew. Thanks for the info. Might help me making friends when I am Wales.
Avalons Welsh heritage as a word comes from Apple, according to Wiki.
@Aravona did you know the dragons were supposed to of fought on snowdon?
I just might travel next month, to Kent.
Month end to be more precise.
15:24
@Liam the older story is Lancelot saved Guinevere even though Arthur said he would banish him for doing so, his mind having been posioned by a darker knight of his table... in doing so Arthur allowed a war which cost him his life... Lancelot arrived far to late to save him, but carried Excalibur back to the lady of the lake as his last request. Had lancelot not saved Guinevere, she would have burnt at the stake.
@Liam no I didn't!
@Weda Kent in England?
@Aravona Depends on which legend. In one the dragons were actually snakes...
:/
@ara: Yeah
@Liam Dragons are better... and on the note of Arthur... Dynadin is a knight of the round table. And exactly why my other half chose that name.
@Aravona ah! makes sense. I did wonder
Liam's my name....
My parents gave it to me
My grandad was irish you see...
@Weda ... two hours from me roughly then!
15:28
@ara: Thats great. 2 hours by road? Yet, I may or may not find any time to take a day off
Lol I chose Aravona for online... but some frineds call me it too
@Weda yeah... I'm Buckinghamshire.
@Aravona My really old friend call my sonic. But not many people call me that anymore
@Ara: Ohk
