Hi there!

1 hour later…
08:08
flagged an answer on a question as it's more of a comment and is a poorly structured sentence
08:34
@Ara: Did the same
08:54
@Weda having a good day?
09:06
@ara: So far so good. :-) what abt u?
09:31
@Weda day off for most people today so just enjoying sitting around
Gaming a little... weather here is so horrible.

2 hours later…
11:21
@ara: Horrible?

2 hours later…
13:23
@Weda very wet lol
14:03
@ara: Gotcha
14:24
Hey @soph-e
Hi @Rory : The Great mod!
@weda hi!
How are you? :)
@soph-e: I am good. What abt u?
@soph: How was the weekend?
am pretty good. VMs are down right now so I should try to find some work to do :/
weekend was alright, the weather was amazing but I didn't get out as much as I wanted to
@soph: Ohk.
how about you, did anything cool this weekend? Didn't work too much? ;)
14:40
@soph: Oh, I was in office from Friday morning to Saturday Eve. Hardly took a nap. So was in no shape to go anywhere.. Wen home and crashlanded on bed :D
Though, I woke up Sunday morning and went to do street photography for a couple of hours :-)
ohh nice, did you get any good photos?
15:07
@soph: Yes I did. Will share them soon if you want :-)
oh I'd love to see some nice photos :D
@soph: I'll upload them on the blog very soon,. Be around this chat, I'll share the link in a day or two :-)
ha, sounds good!
15:33
@soph: What you do? Where are you from? I forget if I've asked you :)
@weda I'm from Montreal, I'm currently doing some kind of internship/summer job type thing doing database reports before starting university next week
I just got told that the development environnment is undergoing maintenance, which explains the VMs being down, and that I may have lost work from the past 2 months ;)
@soph: Oh, its sad to hear about the loss of work of a couple of months :-(
@soph: And, good luck with the new university and studies :-)

Q: Carrying a portable stove

WedaPashiDuring a long expedition, how to safely pack, place and carry a portable gas filled stove?

@Weda what kind of gas stove? this is still a bit ambiguous
And I voted to close the swimming one as I think it would be better on Sports.SE than on here
Noticed someone made a similar comment on the biking one
15:49
@Weda put that in the question then lol!
I have one of those but also one of these: millets.co.uk/equipment/102145-campingaz-camp-bistro-stove.html
That is also 'portable'
We use both camping
@ara: Ohk
For the one you linked to - we just stick it in it's cloth bag and put it in our backpacks, there really isn't any specific way to store something so small - ours fits in your pocket
Are you worried about storing the gas canister?
@ara: yes I am
If so we chuck that in the bottom of the bag wrapped in a hat
You might want to specify then it is the gas canister you are worried about not the actual stove?
15:55
@ara: But the link you shared, those look amazingly handy
@ara: I am actually worried about both
@Weda we use it at basecamp :) very useful
Might still be good to clarify the question a bit then, storing the gas and the stove? Just to clarify for people - you might get a better answer then
Planning for a trek around Saser Kangri IV: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saser_Kangri
It isn't really a gas 'filled' stove - thats why I thought you meant one like my large basecamp stove. It's a stove attachement to a gas canister? :)
@weda oh wow that is one tall mountain
@Weda Looks great :)
I'm off to a geocaching event next weekend :) really looking forward to it - so long as I can stay awake! ... Midnight event lol
16:00
@Ara @soph: I ain't climbing it. I just have plans to get to the Camp II. We have already plan for the same sunnit in 2k16
@aara: LOL :D I oftern trek in night and its so much fun :-)
@Weda The summit? Wow O.o
Lol this is a bunch of people getting together and finding the oldest geocache in Europe :D
ooh a trek around, that sounds a lot more mellow ;)
@Weda you are so lucky to live near something like that though!
@ara: Yeah, but I just have slightly more than an year to get in better shape. And this Toe injury has kept me away for roughly a month :X
I still need to get my arse in gear and go up Scarfel Pyke and Ben Nevis!
16:02
@Ara: Yeah, I do feel lucky..
@Weda better to rest now than risk a later injury - hence why Dyna and I are both on rest weeks at the moment.... Tomorrow though starts my new diet and exercise regime to help fix my hip injury for good :/
Remember: The mountains will always be there, the trick is to make sure you are too. -- Hervey Voge
Love the quote
:D brilliant
Ben Nevis and Scarfel might be next year though - for me though not for charity this time, though I'm interested in doing more charity things
@ara: where is @Liam ? Feels like missing something in the room :D
@soph: It does sound a bit mellow, yes. But its fun!
@Weda Lol Its a bank holiday - he is probably off work today :)
I want to also hike / climb some of the mountains in Norway - my dads been and so has my Danish friend... looked amazing!
16:05
@soph: Before we can actually bid for a summit attempt there, I'd definitely wanna take a look at the things and arrangements there. Its rather a deserted region.
@weda mellower than a 25ft summit, not necessarily mellow per so ;)
@Weda new kayak arrived Friday and tested them on Saturday
how high is the camp II?
@Ara: I did read your msg here. How did it go?
@Weda well - Dyna is posting the details on goliveoutdoors a bit later today :)
25k ft is loads... Snowdon was only 3k+ ... lol
16:06
@soph: 18,200 feet
Now I feel unfit ;)
oh wow that's very tall indeed :P
@soph: lesser then 25k :-)
hahaha that's true
@Weda have you heard of the Welsh 3000s challenge?
16:08
There is a overhanging glacier between Camp II and Camp III
@ara: no, I have not. Whats abt it?
@Weda Quote: 'In order to complete the Welsh 3000s Challenge you are required to have been at the top of all 15 of the mountains over 3000 ft in Wales within the space of 24 hours, without using any form of transport.'
@ara: Oh My God! And people actually do it? :O
#HatsOff!
@soph: so you planning anything in coming times?
@soph: Anything was referring to something adventurous.
@Ara: Seems like @Rory too is having a busy day!
@Weda yeah the Fell Runner record for the welsh 3000s stands at 4 hours 20something minutes... so someone ran up the 15 peaks in that time, all of them over 3000ft! amazing!
@Weda yeah probably off too - I'm only home on my PC due to the weather / injury. If Dyna and I were at 100% we'd be out in the rain on a hike
I hope it snows this winter so we can hike in the snow as well :)
@weda no, I don't have any outdoor plans in the works right now, I need to see what the university course load looks like first ;)
I tried to get into the school's sailing club but they won't let me in the club before the semester start, and the season is ending anyway (they're only doing competitions right now, no more regularly scheduled practices)
@soph-e where are you from? :)
16:14
Montreal, Canada
Oh nice! got a friend in Canada - really want to visit one day :)
You should. Which coast? Canada varies wildly depending on whereabouts you are ;)
When my fiance and I cannot get out much to do something big we geocache - gets us out and about and it's enjoyable
@soph: I love these two countries: Canada and England.
anyway, I have to grab some lunch, I'll be back later!
16:17
@soph-e wherever my 'brother' lives hah, which I think if I remember correctly is Alberta
cya mate ^_^
@WedaPashi I am going to eventually plan Coast to Coast
@ara: hows the plan and route for that?
@Weda there's a few, it's pretty easy to plan though, plenty of websites about it
you're just walking from one side of the UK to the other from the irish sea to the north sea, or vise versa
@ara: i had heard or read somewhere that Northern Ireland is closed for trekking> Is it so>
@Weda wouldn't know
I don't tend to keep tabs on Northern Ireland
@WedaPashi hello! Been out all day. Kids were in school, but Claire and I had the day off so went to see the Kelpies in Falkirk and the Wallace Monument in Stirling
16:27
@Rory no bank holiday for you?
Yep - day off
but not the kids?
@Aravona Kids don't need bank holidays :-)
they were at school
@Rory haha true ;)
I used to get bank holidays off at school
@Aravona they'll probably get the day off for this blimming vote. Grrr
16:28
@Rory Oh?
@Rory: LOL at Kids don't need bank holidays :-)
they always have the polling stations at the local schools
which means we have to sort out childcare etc
Ohhh @Rory that's a pain
One of the Kelpies
shining in the sun
@Rory oh wow!
16:32
@Rory: Nice place :-)
and that's the down Kelpie
originally they were going to move up and down with the lock gates, but apparently the engineering challenges would have been too expensive to overcome
beautiful if you are travelling the Forth-Clyde canal though
@Rory wow
Lovely though!
More and more I think it is about time I visit scotland...
@Aravona Saw a family of 4 kayaking through, although they didn't wait for the lock gates, just portaged round :-)
16:37
@Rory oh sweet!
Also took the Stack Exchange unicorn up to the Wallace Monument:
@Rory Stack Exchange has a unicorn?!
She is staying with me for a week, getting to visit castles, the Festival and even coming to a Metaltech gig this Saturday in Nottingham, before I post it off to the next moderator in the trail. It's doing a round the world trip :-)
@Aravona of course :-)
@Rory brilliant!
@Aravona we're all adding in tickets, stickers, photos etc into the log book
fun little thing
16:40
@rory brilliant!
@Aravona Must look a bit strange - me in my leather jacket, all 'biker'-y, with this little unicorn toy... anyway
@Rory :D haha
That's perfect
@Aravona excellent...but was really hoping for a picture of a froglet at the bottom :-)
...need more GoPro, that would do it
16:55
@Rory that's exactly what we said when he hopped in, hah
@ara @rory @soph: Its time to leave. Catch you later! :-)
