Morning all! :D
Just to let you know the climb was amazing (despite the inflamed hip flexor I gained!) .. and we have so far raised £475.78 for the Animal Health Trust - we also saw some badass mountain rescue fundraisers up at the summit who had been stood in the rain for house.

I'm on a rest week for my hip now... but seriously was a brilliant weekend :D
Cool well done. Weather was horrendous at the weekend too. I was up that way (not snowdon). I forgot my waterproof so didn't go high
08:08
@Liam I took my waterproofs but didn't use my coat until the way down - my north face fleece kept off the rain amazingly well (and I was super hot) my trousers were already soaked so no point in me putting my waterproof ones on over the top - but by the time we were half way down I was bone dry! Last time I climbed Snowdon it was much dryer weather, I'm actually thrilled I got to experience some gale winds and rain up there - was fab!
08:20
@Aravona Yeah, I like a bit of bad weather! makes you feel like you've achived something.

Except the time I walked up Glyder Fawr in the pouring rain, bumped into some guys coming down "Alright, how was it?" "Fucking awful I wouldn't bother if I was you".. :(
Got to the top, they were right it was fucking awful. Tramped back down in the pouring rain to a wet camp. Ate some super noodles packed up my tent and drove home.
:)
Hey guys :)
@WedaPashi hi!
I've a bite on my jaw line... super itchy
@Liam we packed up early on Sat and drove home as there were forcasted heavy rains and gale force winds on the Sunday morning - just made sense to pack up early.
But you're right, sometimes the worse the weather the more fun you have... when we hiked up the mountains near Tanygrisiau (Moelwyn mountains) we had rain... then as we got higher we had snow - we stood in the abandoned mining village getting snowed on and we loved it! When we got above the clouds it was beautiful sunshine!
08:41
@Aravona Yeah, that's the good kind of bad weather
:)
@WedaPashi Hey Weda
btw @WedaPashi @Liam Dynadin will probably crop up in new posts - that's my otherhalf
09:03
@aravona: Oh, thats great. Good to have him here
@WedaPashi yeah he wanted a presence on here as we advertise TGO on our blog :)
@Aravona Cool, have I seen him on here before?
@Liam, @aravona, @RussellSteen @Roryalsop @EverythingRightPlace: I have reported the following as spam:
@WedaPashi same and it's already gone
09:11
@aravona: Yeah, I just voted and it vanished!
@Liam that article is so true - someone was going up Snowdon in hot pants and a tank top - NOT climbing matieral... My other half and I had a camping stove, tinned food, waterproofs, hats, gloves, scarfs (or in my case a ski mask) all for a one day trek - just in case.
@WedaPashi spam ususally shows a website is doing well so I'm not fussed about those kinda ones - but I'm slowly on my way to the next flagging badge 13/80
Hehe
@aravona: I am 149 :D
So as soon as Someone gets chatty there on posts, and I'll get to 150 :)
@Aravona Yeah I read that the other day. It's getting bad, 4 people killed this year simply by being unprepared
People think that because there is a nice wide path and signs that it's safe. It's not. The weather can close in easily. The BMC is arguing that the signs should be removed.
@Aravona I saw someone climbing the step on Crib coch in flip flops once :O
09:28
@Liam ... that's stupid - I did a 4km walk in Italy in flipflops... had to wear my converse for the rest of the holiday (luckily it was a casual one, but lots of walking happened) My own fault and I did no complain even though I had pain - but Lesson Learnt!
@Liam Snowdon is still a mountain, it needs to be taken seriously.
@Aravona Did you enjoy your climb anyway? :)
@Liam loved it :) always wonderful to be in Wales
Morning folks!
@RoryAlsop: Hey Rory!
Morning!
Have been out of touch - spent the weekend at the Gatehouse of Fleet (in the middle of nowhere)
:-)
09:42
@RoryAlsop: Thats great!
it was very stormy, but the kids were out surfing and we stayed at a campsite
was great fun
all to celebrate my eldest child's birthday
can't beat a bit of trekking around
@WedaPashi and @Aravona - that indicates the site is getting to the right level. Spammers getting gubbed by the community, rather than mods
excellent

@RoryAlsop glad you had a good weekend! :)
@Liam: Its a good answer! Cheers to that. But I should still wait for other to answer there :) Hope you don't mind. +1 from me!
@WedaPashi of course not, not problem weda
I'm not sure what to make of this question?

Q: Camping on a desserted island in Sweden's skärgård near Gothenburg

Bjarke Freund-HansenThe Swedish skärgård located just west of Gothenburg is a beautiful place. I have been traveling there a couple of times, taking the bus-ferries around between the islands. There are quite a lot of desserted islands, with some grass and rocks, and sometimes a few animals. I was thinking of the p...

Too broad?
It's a bit vague to say the least
Forget that, he's clarified
09:58
@Liam: Yep He has now.
@RoryAlsop @Liam @Aravona: Cheers to England team BTW. Good cricket. Poor cricket from Indians :( I expected better of course. Lets see how they do in ODIs now.
@WedaPashi I didn't see any of the last test.
@aravona: Neither did I. It ended in nearly half the time :D
@WedaPashi Yeah I think everyone missed that one. Looked like a team low on confidence in the end.
@WedaPashi Missing Tendulkar?
He's a tough man to replace TBF
@liam: Thats true. We do miss Tendulkar and Dravid. But yeah, English bowling attack has become absolutely brilliant and bang on target!
@Liam @RoryAlsop @Aravona: Spent time watching The Expendables 3. Loved the movie
another Area51 question that could do with our support

Q: How is On The Water different from The Great Outdoors?

DJClayworthProposal: On the Water The Great Outdoors already has 16 questions related to sailing and 12 to boats in general. I'm sure they would welcome more contributions.

10:16
@Liam voted ... but sometimes wonder if people check other sites before proposing.
Hi @Liam, nice to see you are discussing my question. :) If you have suggestions on how I can improve it, please let me know. Also, I had a hard time finding appropriate tags. There was no sweeden or island or desolate-place tags. Perhaps some of these tags might be relevant to create?
@BjarkeFreund-Hansen Hi @BjarkeFreund-Hansen. Yeah. I thought the original was a little vague but it's much better now.
I'm not sure desolate is quite the word your after? @BjarkeFreund-Hansen
@BjarkeFreund-Hansen Desolate imply's it's not very nice! You prob want deserted?
@Liam Maybe not, but deserted sounds like a place people once inhabited but left for some reason. I am not a native English speaker, so I might be wrong. I actually changed the wording in the question to uninhabited, as I think that is more precise.
@BjarkeFreund-Hansen yeah, that makes sense. Desolate is normally used in the context of something unpleasant. Like the "area had been bombed leaving it desolate". It's a little subtle.
@BjarkeFreund-Hansen Your english is better than my sweedish :)
@BjarkeFreund-Hansen I've added a few new tags for you
@Liam @BjarkeFreund-Hansen: And, I have edited the tags
10:30
@BjarkeFreund-Hansen Those islands do look very inviting!
@BjarkeFreund-Hansen they do look amazing islands :)
11:15
@Liam: Thank you. And yes, it is a really beautiful place. :)

A: What foods are unsafe to cook over an open fire?

Leo WinkerTinned beans, or any tinned food that is sealed. Nothing to do with food poisoning, it's because the tins can explode as the pressure builds up.

my experience with cooking straight from a tin isn't to do with pressure - what idiot wouldn't open the tin first? - but more that you cannot circulate the food so it just burns on the bottom. Not really a good way to cook imo, but doubt the tin will explode?!
@Aravona: I too doubt that. Good catch
11:56
@WedaPashi :)
12:47
anyone ever been to Budapest?
Looking for a holiday
@Liam nope. Sorry
13:31
@Liam: Budapest reminds me of The Expendables :D
14:09
I have another question in mind, but I'll keep that for later :-)

4 hours later…
17:56
@WedaPashi Didn't see it
Ah well now I see, I flagged it 2 weeks ago :)
