Hello everyone!
@RoryAlsop: Yayy!!! My favourite user is back! outdoors.stackexchange.com/users/651/davidr
David was gone for long!

I just saw this comment: @WedaPashi--you mention avoiding stimulants. If someone in the party had a flask of whiskey, would it be worth getting the bite victim drunk??
On this answer here

A: What are the first aid precautions to be taken in case of a snake bite?

WedaPashiThere is hardly anything very effective first aid as such, considering the fact that you are 5 hrs walk from any medical facility. I guess I can assume that you will be roaming in rain forests of Agumbe or anywhere in Southern Western Ghats since you referred to King Cobras. Considering the re...

@Liam cheers for the tag edit... never know what to put!!
08:22
@Aravona No problem. Not saying it's right. I was actually trying to make it consistant with the simlar question from @WedaPashi

Q: How to fix a leak in a fibreglass kayak?

WedaPashiI have got an old kayak from a friend of mine who no longer needs it. As he told me, there are 3 leaks in that Kayak, one of them is very visible being a coin-sized hole (:D). The others are pretty minor. I, as a total rookie in kayaking and other water sports, do understand that using such a Ka...

I think with plastic kayaks you need to get them done professionally. They're molded from a single piece of plastic in the factory so it's hard to fix, fibreglass is easier because it's all bonded
@Aravona

surfing pig
.....
@Liam oh my goodness surfing pig
Oink
@Liam fair enough... it isn't a single mould though as I said the hole is actually on one of the seams. I think nivag could have easily written his comment into an answer.
@Aravona I'm sure someone will provide a good answer for you. Kayaks are not really my thing!
@Liam no... but if I ever need mountaineering advice you are top of my list!!
08:48
@Aravona :)
@Liam work today is dragging... I'm too excited to be in the office....
@Aravona Day off tomorrow!
yea
I'm waiting in to get mt broadband hooked up
:(
I am tweeting things
@Liam ooh I hate waiting for broadband setups...
@aravona: Have a good weekend :)
@Liam: Whats the plan for weekend?
I am already on a weekend rush here. We have a leave tomorrow, its out Independence Day, Followed by a Sat-Sunday! I just might go biking. Toe is looking good.
@WedaPashi I will! we have raised just under 400 pounds for the charity!
2
@WedaPashi glad you're healing well! :D
09:04
@aravona: Oh, thats great!
@WedaPashi very pleased :)
@WedaPashi I'm hopefully going climbing on sun. Just to a local quarry, which will be nice. Sat I'm having a few friend round in the eve and might take "Das Hund" up the local hills.
@Liam sounds a great weekend!
09:28
@Aravona, Duct tape is the greatest substance known by man
or women
@Liam: Sounds great! I wish I had a dog that would accompany during small trips in the local hills :( My Pet, she is just a lazy arse. All it want is Vanilla Ice-Cream, though we don't let her have it on a regular basis. #TheLazyIceCreamHoggingDog

@Liam but I don't see it as a permanent fix for a kayak more a temporary? Plus that shit is Fugly. I'm already arguing with the manufacturer that their 'Fix'will cause my kayak to be at a lesser value in terms of the level of aesthetics I paid for.
@Aravona How old is it?
@Liam ... one month... they shipped it faulty. but they are being a pain as it's a seasonal kayak they don't stock it again until.next year so cannot get me a full replacement
@WedaPashi your duct tape fix... is that for out and about temporary fixea to keep you going, or a lasting permanent solution?
09:35
@Aravona Send it back and buy a new one from somewhere else? I'd at least threaten them with it. If it's under warranty you should have them over a barrel
@Aravona: I bet you have more wisdom in Kayaking than me, and I do Kayak with this make-shift fix up idea with the Fibreglass kayak that I have, but yes, I am not a pro, so I don't go in much trouble-making waters. So far, this fix is working out well for me. Epoxy Putty solution sounds much better though i have not tried it.
@aravona: As @liam rightly said, If I were you, I would have definitely sent it back if I don't really need it right away. On a side note, if you try fixing up it on your own, the vendor may or may not fix it/replace it for you without charging anything.
@Liam the issue is my other halfs kayak is perfectly fine and cannot be returned now due to use / over a month old. We wanted identical kayaks ... the repair they will do will be incredbly visible but I've just been informed they have fulled discontinued our kayal range anyway...
@WedaPashi they have offered me a new kayak but its completely different to mine and my other halfs... they have offered a very visable and ugly repair on it... I just want a new one of mine but cannot get one because they've now discontinued it... but they won't send us two new ones in exchange.
we want the same kayaks.
@aravona: Aww, this thing about having the same kayaks wonders me a bit, No offence. Love is Blind! :D
@WedaPashi ... because it is no fun for me to have a lighter faster and less effort kayak than my other half? we would not have any fair races on the water.
it isn't about love, it's about competitiveness and the fact two different weight kayaks would damage our car long term because we have a pressure tension based roof rack.
@aravona: Oh, I thought its always about aesthetic parts of it!
@aravona: Gotcha. Fair enough.
09:51
@WedaPashi ... his is bright blue and mine is bright green... its just about them being the same make and model
@WedaPashi you can see the old ones here: goliveoutdoors.com/buckland-canal
My other half is going to see what he can do when he talks to the company director later. This is stressing me out as we have a kayak week planned for early September AND a kayak weekend the weekend after this one :(
@aravona: Damn the IT security :( They've blocked the site.
@aravona: If its a hard and fast requirement, then I'll say try the one with Epoxy compound / Chewing gum and Duct Tape solution. I bet it shall work
@WedaPashi Problem is if you put epoxy on it, they may not accept it back? If it's a seam, couldn't you epoxy and gaffer tape it, but inside the kayak, where you can't see it?
I don't know if this would be permanent or not?
10:07
@Liam it isn't so much about fixing this particular hole as good techniques to fix a hole outside warranty.
@Liam @WedaPashi I thimk the tape would be great if i was on a kayak holiday and needed a quick fix.
@Aravona the problem you'll find is that the warranty will say (replace like for like). They don't have to give you the exact same kayak if they don't make it any more. You may have to compromise on something?
@Liam yeah but the offered one was massively different... longer, lighter, different colour, no fishing adapter, much less storage.
@Liam I wouldn't call it on par with the one I purchased.
The main thing for me is Ive rear storage and two internal dry stack stores with a fishing pole adapter ... the new offered kayak has rear storage only from what the description says
10:27
@Liam: Exactly thats what I said about applying out own methods to fix it, may give vendor the liberty that he/she doesn't accept it back.
@Aravona That's crap. They should offer you one of equivalent value. Do they make one like what you want?
@WedaPashi I never said I was going to fix the hole myself. My question was how to repair a hole in a plastic kayak, talking generally!
@Liam they did and I brought it lol... thwre was a similar cheaper pure fishing one which wasn't so bad either.
@aravona:I totally understand that.
My other half is now waiting to talk to the company director
It's stupid how upset I'm letting myself get
@Aravona Yeah, it's not worth it
10:43
@Liam Damn being a natural worrier. SOD IT... I'm going to just forget about it until my camping trip is over!!
@aravona: Yeah, thats the way you should go about it. Forget about it until you have things to look for for forthcoming camping trip :)
@WedaPashi short term I'm just looking forwarf to lunch lol
Oh @RoryAlsop, I heard some of your radio show last night
Just the last 15 mins on my drive home
I don't think I heard you
11:09
@Liam: I think, @RoryAlsop had said, "Not playing, but we were invited as guests onto James Naughtie's referendum debate ... heh heh heh"
@Liam We all got to chat a bit. We got introduced really well "... we have ... a Metal Tech band ... in black leather, I'm glad to say ... " and then got some chat at about 8 minutes 20, and a few more bits throughout
Along with an excellent picture
@RoryAlsop: Which one is you?
I'd guess 2nd from Left? or may be 1st from right. eh?
Or may be 2nd from Left? :D
Definitely not the 1st from left!
2nd from left
@RoryAlsop: Yeah, the very first guess was bang on target! :D
leftmost is Erik Tricity, our front man - obviously. He has the rock pout - I just look happy. I need to work on that look
11:19
@RoryAlsop great picture!
Olaf is on the right - a stand in for our bass player (who was at home looking after his new baby :-)
Aww!
I've a friend whose the drummer for a uk punk band
@RoryAlsop Awesome!
@RoryAlsop sooooo, what is your opinion on Scottish independence?
12:04
@Liam :-)
In our band we have 3 views - a no, a yes, and an 'as argumentative as possible'
@RoryAlsop have you heard of UK vomit?
Despite the failings in our current government I can see no way an independent Scotland would be better, and many ways it would be worse
@RoryAlsop Sounds like a typical scottish household!
;)
The problem is that a huge proportion of the population wants independence because "Freedom!"
they don't stop to think about what it actually means
@RoryAlsop don't take this the wrong way, but looking at it from the outside (as a Welshman) it seems a pointless vanity project. Practically I don't see it achieving anything.
If the vote was yes
12:10
yup
I'm in agreement with you

@WedaPashi - your comment regarding 'party' on that snakebite question. Party here does not mean they were at a party, it just means the group of people :-)
braveheart flashbacks
.....
@Liam He's not even Scottish :-)
@RoryAlsop my friend who has lived in England for like 18 years got asked if she would move back to scotland and vote yes...
12:20
@RoryAlsop shut UP! You'll be telling me next that William Wallace didn't have sex with the queen under the kings nose....We all know who really won that war and it was Gibson!
@Liam ... that replacement kayak they offered me isn't even the same brand as my current one...
I love Kim Jong Ung
If you ignore the killing loads of innocent civilians he's awsome
2
He blew up a general with rockets
Firing squad..pah...I've paid for these rockets I'm going to fricken use them
that's style
13:10
I've just noticed we get 3000 visitors a day, that's quite a lot
We should all vote for this

Q: Ask a climber v The Great Outdoors

DJClayworthProposal: Ask a climber Site: The Great Outdoors The Great Outdoors already has 91 climbing questions on it, and it seems anything on topic at "Ask A Climber" would be on-topic there. Is there any reason this isn't the case?

@Liam that's brilliant
Looking through area51 our closest Beta seems to be sports
917
Sportssports.stackexchange.com

Beta Q&A site for participants in team and individual sport activities.

Currently in public beta.

But were beating that by some margin in all the stats
I've also noticed that scuba diving is on topic for sports
Anyone like Alt-j?
Their new song includes the lyric "I want to turn you inside out a lick you like a crisp packet"....amazeballs

Q: Which mobile phones are rugged enough for rock climbing?

ldgormanI keep breaking phones whilst out at the crag and so i would like a phone that is both light, and rugged, that also takes good pictures. Can anyone recommend some good ones?

Seems like it will become outdated pretty fast
??
14:24
I think that would be irrelevant for future use.... unless you suggest a Nokia
@WedaPashi my other half and I usually take a spirit based alcoholic drink with us on long hikes / camping :)
@Aravona Yeah it's going to become irrelevant pretty fast
14:40
