Sorry if this is off topic. But I am having trouble installing mathematica on my mac. It does not appear in the applications folder upon completing the installation. And there is not option available during the installation to choose the location it installs to.

@user400188 did you do Standard Download or Direct File Download?
00:54
The standard.
The direct file download isn't available for macOS at the moment it seems (only documentation files are).

@user400188 I guess that's just a downloader for the real install, maybe look for that
Ah, I found the problem... I think.
I installed the documentation, which took up 8.3GB of space, making me think it was the full program.
I have it now, problem solved.
Thanks for the help @ChrisK, it led me to the right answer.

@JimB @CarlLange I didn't find anything newer but there is no need to notify SE Team, I think I agree with points made in this thread: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/38742/…

@VitaliyKaurov I do hope @J.M has a chance to come back and participate in this and I share the concern of other people asking about J.M's wellbeing, however, that should be balanced by the right to privacy of the user.

@Kuba Thanks! That thread makes sense. And that matches the response I just got from the Stack Overflow & Stack Exchange support team: "We don't have any process for when a user passed away or anything we can actually do due to security and privacy reasons."
