Do people have any suggestions for how to write .nb explorations in such a way as to make it reasonably simple to export them to a .wls file later? I already push much of my core stuff into a package, but it doesn't make sense to push everything into a package as a lot of it is one-off.

On the other hand I often need to rerun my stuff with minor variants that make me wish everything were packaged up so as to be easy to work with

And it really needs to be a .wls in the end because at the end of the day I run it on a cluster

@Szabolcs I can also confirm unzip on a Linux system works to unpack a paclet that was built via PackPaclet:

I just unpacked one of my .paclet files on an HPC cluster

I'm just linking in the directory where it unpacked to with PacletDirectoryAdd since I don't know where the $UserBaseDirectory is and I probably don't have much storage space to burn wherever it ends up being.

@Kuba Are you aware of a good duplicate target for questions that are basically due to the OP never having seen Select/Cases before?

I mean, there are lots of questions which could be (and were) answered with "Look up Select/Cases/DeleteCases"

Is there one that could be used as the canonical one? Otherwise these are too tempting to close as "Simple mistake / easy to look up", but in an effort to be more accommodating to newcomers I think we should close as duplicate instead.

@Szabolcs This search seems to give several candidates in the top several. There are others that show that already knowing of Select[] doesn't help the OP. Often these searches have localized issues relating to formulating the selection criteria. An insignificant difference to me can be significant to the OP and others in the community.

Kinda wild that the people judging that thing don't actually run the code. In one place they claim you can drop the "System`" from System`BackgroundAppearance but you can't because it's not naturally a "System`" symbol...

@b3m2a1 you can ask Wolfram that they give you an WEPC test license . They will not give you any support, but I have a whole lot of notes and experience. So I might be willing to help (if I have time). WEPC is promising. You have to be good in Linux though ...

Just try. No promise though. You may have to have a good argument ( maybe it would help to tell them that the WEPC needs some developer credibility and experience and so on in order to get more traction out there ...

Also I just tried to load IGraphM in the cloud

Can confirm LibraryFunctionLoad refuses to load the .so files

You can Import the contents but not open it with LFL

You don't need a server farm. A Linux root server is enough. Then you install KVM and run the WEPC through libvirtd. You do need to dig into haproxy though and fiddle with letsencrypt and so on, but eventually it just works.

@b3m2a1 Public cloud is for simple things. The WEPC is for heavy duty stuff ...

@RolfMertig I can imagine. It's a bit heavier than I'll probably ever have a use case for, though :| I don't even have a "Linux root server" and this is the first time I've heard those three words chained together in that combination

I do like the idea of trying to get them to let me play with an EPC, though

It just has this deep appeal somehow
