@kirma nice!

:)
I was just about to complain about quiet Saturday. :)

@kirma Not to mention it's the Saturday between Christmas and New Year's. I love the "shadow" stars.

@MichaelE2 I find my method (rasterized RegionPlot as a texture) quite inelegant, though. I wonder if this kind of thing can be achieved in a more direct fashion? I didn't try that hard, I'm actually on a vacation abroad...

@kirma Silvia or Simon Woods could probably do it in a one-liner. :)
@kirma Maybe MeshShading on a ParametricPlot...

@MichaelE2 My primary fear of those was that sharp boundaries would turn into interpolated mess, unless absurdly high PlotPoints numbers would be used.

5:54 PM
@kirma It probably would be a mess if you plotted the whole sphere from N to S poles. But you could stop and fill in with plain sphere segments. It might not be so easy. You might be able to stop the yellow/star shading away from the poles and just have red/plain shading near the poles. Then fill with red sphere segments.

@MichaelE2 Region functionality should solve everything, but I've learned it's not really such a silver bullet especially in 3D...
Well, "everything". At least in the case of discrete regions.

Yet another funny bug:
a = 1;
b = -1;
yi = Pi/6;
xmax = 20.;
ydi = 0;
SGEqBterm = {Y''[x] == a Sin[Y[x]] Cos[Y[x]] + b Cos[Y[x]],
   Y'[0] == ydi, Y[0] == yi};

sol = First@
  NDSolve[{SGEqBterm,
    WhenEvent[Y[x] == yi, period = x; "RemoveEvent",
     "DetectionMethod" -> "DerivativeSign"]}, Y, {x, -2 xmax, 2 xmax}]

sol = First@
  NDSolve[{SGEqBterm,
    WhenEvent[Y[x] == yi, period = x; "RemoveEvent",
     "DetectionMethod" -> "DerivativeSign",
     "IntegrateEvent" -> True]}, Y, {x, -2 xmax, 2 xmax}]
I don't know if they're worth posting to the site. (I let WRI know already.) If it works in V10.0.2, I would be interested. I have V10.0.1.

Q: Why am I unable to scroll some questions?

unlikelyI'm experiencing a strange behavior. I'm unable to scroll some questions. For example: How to use Map inside MapThread? I'm using Windows 8.1 with IE. Am'I the only one?

@Mr.Wizard You posted a comment on one of my deleted answers asking why I had deleted the answer. The reason is that my webspace moved and I no longer have access to the material pointed to in the answer, which was rather critical to the answer. I think I deleted several of my old answers around the same time.

10:33 PM
@MarkMcClure I see. That's too bad but thanks for explaining it for me.
Hello @Pickett

@Mr.Wizard Hi!

HELLO

@ChenStatsYu SUP

Just want to say Merry Christmas to everyone!
How are you?

@halirutan one thing about the original LinkSnooper I don't like. (Not that I ever used it so far for anything serious!) The kernel --> FE or FE --> kernel communication direction is indicated only by the arrow, which I find unclear. Perhaps in your version you could have (an option for?) the arrow to be always the same direction, but the endpoints to be reversed?
@ChenStatsYu I'm good; can't speak for everyone else. Merry Christmas to you as well!

@OleksandrR. My Christmas isnt much Christmas, but it's a lot of Mathematicamas

@ChenStatsYu my Christmas consists mainly in drinking a lot. I think I can live with that

11:58 PM
@OleksandrR. Good for you! I am working on my PhD thesis, half writing up half coding. and I can live with that too :P
