Q: Open problems in Lie symmetry theory

wurdWhat are some famous open problems and conjectures in Lie symmetry theory? Is there some kind of list of these problems available or possibly a historical survey of the development of theory of symmetry groups?

VLQ answer pulled out of a hat like magic (noticed while editing my answer there for a dupe).

I just transplanted my answer from this duplicate question to this reference question. Therefore, the duplicate question can now be deleted.
Actually, I just attempted to vote to delete the duplicate question, and received a message that the question can not be deleted, because it has been linked to by other questions that are also categorized as duplicates. So, if the duplicate question is to be deleted, it will probably require moderator attention.
@user2661923 There are more than 50 linked questions, and there is no easy way of tracking down which of these are closed as duplicates. Moreover, the point of closing a question as a duplicate is to signal "This question meets the standards of the site and is otherwise a fine question, but it has already been answered elsewhere." Generally speaking, it is not necessary to delete a question simply because it is a duplicate.

@XanderHenderson Thanks for the tip. Then, going forward, when a question that I have answered is marked as a duplicate, is it still worthwhile for me to transplant my answer to the "linked reference" question?
@user2661923 I mean, it is hard to give a hard-and-fast rule. If the question was of low quality to begin with, yes, you should probably delete your answer. But someones a perfectly fine question will be a duplicate, but the answer to one cannot be immediately copy-pasted to the other (if, for example, the notational choices differ).

Per the suggestion of hardmath, who indicated that MathSE has many questions on [continued fractions or Pell Equations], I have initiated a *Continued Fractions* answer to the
[List of Generalizations of Common Questions](https://math.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/1868/list-of-generalisations-of-common-questions). If anyone feels that it would be better to use the *Number Theory* umbrella, or fold the reference into an already existing *Number Theory* umbrella, within the article, go ahead and do so.
@user2661923 If the dupe has dupe answers too then you should vote to delete it. if we don't do that then the site becomes so swamped with low-quality fgitw answers to common questions that it becomes impossible to locate high-quality answers by searching (so the site devolves into an ephemeral stream of low-quality answers vs. an easily searchable library of high-quaity answers).
@BillDubuque That was my thinking, once I transplanted the answer. However, in this specific situation, after I deleted my answer from the question categorized as a duplicate, this system prevented me from voting to delete, since other questions that had been categorized as duplicates were linked to this (duplicate) question. That's why I resigned myself to sending a notice in the cured chatroom.
@user2661923 Yes, I realize that. My comment was meant to be a remark on the matter in general.
