We have the usual suspect on another spree of asking in comprehensible questions C1, C2, C3. Their modus operandi is to toss around concepts, undoubtedly picked up from constructive comments to their earlier questions explaining why the idea cannot work. They do not bother to actually learn the meaning of those concepts.
All, tread carefully lest we indulge in attacking a single user. In-between they managed to make a single answerable question. I kinda regret answering that, because it seems to have provided fodder for more. To the askers credit, the comment under the answer actually makes sense. If only they directed that energy into learning rather than obsessing... Reminds me of Iyengar :-(

Those of you who arrived later. This meta post by a then moderator is about that user. We may need a policy discussion, but do we really have the energy for that?

@XanderHenderson , the one by mathworker is certainly above 512 characters, (allowed in comments) but the second answer is not

@amWhy I did, and am working on an answer.
@Arjun I am not sure that I see the relevance. Answers are meant to answer the question. Non-answers should be deleted.

@XanderHenderson Do my comments to the OP make sense to you, @Xander?

Yes.
That particular user is pretty toxic.
I have no intention of engaging with them in that meta thread. I'm going to leave my answer, then "peace out."

@XanderHenderson I agree!
@XanderHenderson Good idea, that! You're a moderator-in-the-making! :-)

@amWhy Answered.

@XanderHenderson And already upvoted. Well said.

It is interesting to me that 7 people can recommend that an answer be deleted, but the answerer can unilaterally undelete that answer. :\
I'll also note that the other non-answer posted there has survived review.

@XanderHenderson It seems the other "non-answer" was edited 2 hours ago. I voted to delete it in review, though.

@XanderHenderson @user21820, @rschwieb, @JyrkiLahtonen, @quid, et. al., please read Xander's answer,, to which I linked. It is an answer to a question/complaint by a user who wrote a self-acknowledged comment in an answer field on main, and then posted to meta, complaining about its deletion..

I agree that posting that meta rant was not prudent. But I also agree that the problem is extremely difficult, so I see the point of posting that table of data. If I only run such a sim for may be one million rounds (sometimes less suffices), I would tend to add it to the question body, but I have also posted such data as an answer myself.
Exhibit 1, 2. True, those were accompanied by at least some heuristics. When all I could do with the data was to support somebody else, I do just that. I guess I should try and formulate my personal policy as an answer to that meta thread. If only there were a clear "my policy" :-)
Admittedly this is yet another instance, where my instiincts suggest lenience to a more advanced question. If this were an easy one, I would not find an answer like that at all useful.

4:49 PM
@JyrkiLahtonen I guess the toughest question is where to draw the line. I hear what you are saying. and it makes some sense. But what exactly counts as "a more advanced question", vs. an "easy one", and what about "not easy, but not terribly advanced questions"?
I would have liked that meta question to delve into the fine points of "where to draw the line", but it was difficult to converse with the OP, who seemed to me to be unyielding and unopen to discussion. Perhaps I appeared to them just like they appeared to me.

Agree @amWhy. It is very difficult to describe, where my personal line would be. It is more like, "I know it when I see it", which does not necssarily work here much better than it ever did in the US courts.

@JyrkiLahtonen I understand completely. Thanks for commenting here, and feel free to consider a post to the meta question, too, if you're up to it! :-)

My opinion, in case anyone is interested in hearing, is that a non-answer should only be posted if it makes a substantial contribution in the sense that its contents cannot easily be obtained by other people. I don't think running a computer simulation counts as substantial. Moreover, it didn't even come with code, or anything else. mathworker21's post at least has some mathematics, on first glance. One can easily post a comment that links to a pastebin if to share computer-generated data.

And let's not even talk about the author's admission that the program was not designed to ensure the correct answer.

@user21820 Of course we are interested, at least I am, hence my ping to you!

Yea I know you were interested. But sometimes I maybe talk too much. =P

@user21820 You, Nah!! Thanks for your opinion!.

6:13 PM
@user21820 You talk far less than myself, @amWhy, or many of the other denizens of Math SE chat or meta. I, for one, welcome your opinions. It is always interesting when the sleeping dragon wakes. :)
Also, I leave my house for three hours, and SE explodes!

@XanderHenderson Are you saying I talk too much!! :-)

@amWhy I mean, my perception is that you talk less than I do, so pots, kettles; stones and glass houses; something something something.

@XanderHenderson hey, isn't that the truth!
@XanderHenderson I'm joking. :P I don't ever think you say anything not worthy saying.

@amWhy :)

@XanderHenderson Except you say too much when you disagree with me!! :P :-)

D1, D2, D3.
D4, D5, D6.
D7, D8, D9.
C1, C2, C3.
@XanderHenderson SE continually explodes. Like Li ion batteries.

@amWhy Well, obviously. I'm RIGHT, by gum! I must force you into accepting that!
:P

@XanderHenderson :P

@user21820 I've finally gotten around to looking at these. Took action where I could and felt it was warranted. Thanks.
