@SimplyBeautifulArt There is a rule that the number of delete votes increases roughly linearly with the score of the question and top-voted answer, starting at 3.

@amWhy I've given an answer. I don't actually think the question is that bad to deserve closure, since it's most likely out of curiosity.
@amWhy @Did @Jack: I'm quite sure that this answer is wrong, for the reason I give in my comments. Could you help to check? I'm unsure because of the user's reputation, but then again this user has a history of posting wrong answers without ever acknowledging his mistakes.

I've also given an answer.

@user21820 <− Turns out it is correct when interpreted as Henning specified in a comment.

@amWhy @Did: The asker switched his choice of accepted answer. =)

@SimplyBeautifulArt Users should be penalized for upvoting posts that are eventually closed or deleted.
Then the rubbish voting will be reduced.

It can be minimal; just −1 points for every upvote you gave to a closed post, and −2 points for deleted posts.

@SimplyBeautifulArt This question seems to be due to a poor question phrasing that confused the asker, as this comment reveals.
However, this user doesn't seem to be very interested in mathematics, as this other question reveals.
This HNQ lacking context should be closed.

@SimplyBeautifulArt @SimplyBeautifulArt, @user21820, @Did, up for Triple PSQ deletion.
@user21820 I specifically identified the problem answer, in my comment above, an answer which is now deleted. I don't remember saying anything suggesting the question itself to be problematic.
@SimplyBeautifulArt yes, indeed. Is now gone.

@user21820 And what's the importance that the accepted answer being changed? That the formerly accepted answer has been deleted is exactly what I thought ought to happen. Other than that, just let me be clear that I am not keen on anyone linking to one's own question or answers or suggestions that other users do so, unless the user has a legitimate concern about the quality of the question asked. and/or the answer given.

@Simp How goes it on your day off?

@amWhy Nice?

@SimplyBeautifulArt Sounds pretty ambivalent! :P

Idk :P
@amWhy Thanks lol

Dreadful mess there. The OP managed to ask successively, through modifications of their question, about three different limits (see my comment on main on the page). One could draw the curtain by deleting?

@Did Now deleted: revisions/timeline.

Did
@MartinSleziak Thanks.
Knowing the character, I foresee some drama here. Let us hope I am wrong...

Perhaps we should invite lulu

9:45 PM
@Did You plan on writing it? Or shall I?

@SimplyBeautifulArt Writing what, if I may ask ?

@amWhy A meta post. Did and I are debating on how we should vote on answers that seem useful, but do not actually answer the OP's specific question.

Oh, okay... I simply saw your comment as a response to Did's last comment here.

Ah lol
xD That would be confusing

Did
@SimplyBeautifulArt "but do not answer the OP's question" suffices, "actually" and "specific" are superfetatory here. :-)

@Did yes yes...

And the question is... tadaaa... math.stackexchange.com/q/2416852

Q: How should we vote on apparently useful answers which do not hit the OP's question?

Simply Beautiful ArtDid and I were debating this topic in the comments of an answer, and we've somewhat decided to make a meta post out of this. How should we vote on apparently useful answers which do not hit the OP's question? As I see it, the answer is, at least in my opinion, useful. It could potentially solve...

@MartinSleziak Since you are the functioning memory of this site... do you know any help page, or meta page, or other, that would discuss the problem of whether one should downvote mathematically correct answers which do not address a question on main.

@amWhy @Did I've upvoted the meta post with some examples of what I'm talking about. Gonna be back after a quick shower.

11:05 PM
Hmmm, @SimplyBeautifulArt I take it you meant to say "I've updated the meta post with some examples of what I'm talking about"?

xD Oops
Yes, I've upvoted myself, and not with the normal clickety upvote button, but with more context! Isn't that strange?
