A: Whether, when, and why to have a new reopen and undelete request thread

anortonI advocate the creation of a new thread, if such a thread should be created at all$^\dagger$. My reasons are as follows: Precedent with similar "questions" The "request for reopen/undeletion" thread is similar in nature to the annual Tag Management threads. We create a new one every year (an...

anorton writes there: My actual preference is that the requests for reopen/undelete votes would take place in a chatroom dedicated to that purpose. This is more suited to the temporary nature of such requests (do we really need to save a request from over two years ago?), because answers can't ever really be deleted.
19315675: I see this question is already closed as a duplicate of the other one. I do not like the direction too much. (A general question closed as a duplicate of proof verifications question.) But it is probably better to let it be. (Reopening and closing in the other direction would be too much of a hassle. And we probably have other duplicates of the same question, which would be worth finding, if we wanted to do something with these two questions.)

One problem with the suggestion to use chat is that discussion of such request is easier to follow under the post than in chat. (Some reopen requests have generated some discussion.)
In the past mods have used this thread to count their votes - so that they only cast the binding vote if there are 5 users proposing reopening. See, for example, here.
But this is probably no much of a problem - if they wish to do so, moderators would easily find a different way to coordinate this.

As the other therad is closed at the momemnt, please, think twice before casting the final vote to close that one, too. — quid 1 hour ago
I might be mistaken, but I thought that software checks this and does not allow two questions to be closed as duplicates of each other.

anorton has divided his post into two answers
I wonder whether mods are able to move comments from one answer to another. I guess they are only able to edit or delete comments.
But probably only one comment was rendered irrelevant by this edit, so I removed it from the old answer and reposted it anew.
