This has to be a dupe... is there a canonical dupe target for things like this? How to find the solution of $|3x - 2| + 2|6x - 4| \geq 20$?‭ - fabrice ondama‭ 2021-11-24 00:25:48Z

How to handle this post where the author asks for a mistake although there is none ? I think the answers are pointless since it has been clarified already in the comments that nothing is wrong with the answer. But what about the question ? Should it be closed ? If yes, for which reason ?

Q: Can Deterministic Finite Automata used to prove NP vs P?

Tan Sing KuangI have tried developed a algorithm for NP problem using Deterministic Finite Automata (DFA). No matter how I simplify the number of states in the DFA, it remains exponential. I think that when the number of states is exponential, that means the NP problem requires at least exponential number of s...

Has this been reopened ? Because I get the message that I have already close-voted.

@Peter You can check the timeline. Yes, you had voted to close it, and it was subsequently reopened.

@Teresa All your D's are gone. Mostly be users here earlier than I, but all are now gone!

@MartinR You marked this question as a duplicate, and it has four reopen votes. Any reason following the edits to believe that it's not a dupe? If so, then there is only one vote left to reopen.

@MartinR math.stackexchange.com/questions/4312967/… It's open for deletion, with four reopen votes, one delete vote.

@TeresaLisbon The original question is a clear duplicate IMO. I also suggested merging the answer into the older thread in a moderator flag. – The author accepted the answer, then edited the question with their attempt to elaborate on the hint given in the answer, and asks for more feedback. Very confusing ...
@amWhy That is the same one that @TeresaLisbon mentioned in the preceding message.

Yes, I see now. But I informed you that it is open for deletion. Is that okay? Or not?

@MartinR Ok : Do you think it's worth deleting the question? I know for sure that the answer is a duplicate, so that is probably not worth keeping around. If you vote to delete , so will I and we can get rid of the question : right now, I'm just concerned with the shifting of goalposts that the OP might cry foul.
I mean, it's almost become a solution-verification question now. I will vote to delete. In fact, the question has more issues than just being a shifting goalpost. There's fill-in-the-gap requests, there's the duplicate hanging around, so I'm probably hitting the button. I can undo it later anyway if someone has an argument.

4:21 PM
I'll back off @MartinR from attending to any posts you feature here: I'll let you and @TeresaLisbon, decide it's fate.

I haven't made up my mind yet :) There is a good answer which (IMO) should be merged into the older thread. That is no longer possible if the question is deleted. OTOH, if it is reopened then closing it again is more difficult ...

@MartinR In that case, I'll write a quick community-wiki answer ,and then you can delete the duplicate. The answer isn't a duplicate, but there is a comment in the original question post by greelious that basically covers it, and I can fill in the gaps (although it's been ages since I attended to such questions, but I can do it!)

4:41 PM
@MartinR I think I'll just reopen it, given you are not pleased I cast the first delete vote.

@amWhy Almost done with the community wiki answer. I have already cast a delete vote on the question : it shouldn't stay, I'm quite sure of it.
Once the answer is done, we can get rid of the question, I think Martin will oblige.

Please post your answer, and it does not have to be CW now, @TeresaLisbon. Hey, I tried to help Martin help out here, but he didn't seem to want that help. So he can continue debating what he wants to do. But oops he can't vote to close as a dupe, again.

Answer abandoned : if it's closed as a dupe again, maybe I'll pick it up.

@MartinR Not having decided was essentially the choice you made, so you no longer have the luxury of time to "make up your mind yet" :)
All the more respect I have for moderators, who often have to make timely decisions based on what they know at that moment, without the luxury of "sleeping on it".

@Peter Needs one more delete vote.
@Peter This has been closed; I already downvoted the question; if necessarly, we can deal with it in a few days, to delete.

@amWhy Still two donvotes needed

@Peter Thanks for making it negative. When I encountered it, it was +1. After voting, it was at zero. @Teresa, @ArcticChar

@amWhy I simply did not have the time to think about it, and yes, that is the luxury that we “normal users” have. I fully agree with your remark about moderators.

7:13 PM
@MartinR I hear you!
