The main thing I disagreed with was moderator's binding vote. But stopping delete/undelete war seems like a reasonable explanation to me.

Yes, when appropriate. Typical use cases for mod delete votes (by no means exhausting):
(1) a non-answer that the review queue failed to delete (they can't delete positively scored answers).
(2) put an end to delete-undelete war
(3) junk questions unlikely to be improved (e.g., trolling)
I consider the approach "here are moderator powers, now go and don't use them" to be a bigger problem than an occasional mistake by a moderator.
