Q: 2013 National Bike Challenge

amcnabbThe 2013 National Bike Challenge (http://nationalbikechallenge.org) is starting up. I just learned about it today, but it seems like a great cause. It's sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists and Kimberly-Clark (as part of an effort to get employees to commute by bike). And selfishly, I'm...

@freiheit Since you're a moderator, should I switch the owner of the team to be you?
@amcnabb Not important to me, but you can if you want. I'm "Eric Eisenhart".
@freiheit If it's not important, I guess I won't bother, but let me know if you change your mind.

@aarthi Should @amcnabb use a different logo and/or name for a bicycles.SE community National Bike Challenge Team?
18:28
@amcnabb You might want to come up with a different logo... Even if it's just slapping some words over the top or running the logo through some kind of filter... Keep it clear that it's not any kind of official Bicycles.SE thing...
@freiheit Yeah, that's coming too close for comfort. It's not an official team, and using the logo verbatim makes him look too "official" which he is not :/
@aarthi: Is there an easy way of making it official? Otherwise I'll just delete it. There's no point of the team even existing if it's not at all official.
It seems like it should be easy to put it under the control of a Stack Exchange employee and call it good.
Or better yet, since the community elects moderators, it really seems like they should have the authority to represent it in an official capacity.
19:15
@amcnabb Hi acmcnabb -- you'd have to propose it in Meta.Bicycles.SE first. I'm not sure if we'd be for it, but it's worth a shot, see how the community feels.
@Aarthi: I'll delete it for now then, and wait until we get more comments or votes on the existing meta post.

@amcnabb Please undelete the team. :) We should have a team, even if it's not officially sponsored by Stack Exchange.
@freiheit Those are great logos. :)
It's too bad there isn't a foundation for the community, apart from the Stack Exchange company, to own the trademarks.
But it seems like part of the point of the team should be to promote the site, and without official recognition, it's just treading on thin ice.
@amcnabb They're all just simple distortions of the logo... Maybe @Aarthi and the team would be ok with something like the tiled one (3rd) that obviously reminds somebody familiar with the community of the real logo, but doesn't look too much like it
@amcnabb You can have the team page link to the site... I think a better point is to have fun and ride bikes. :)
@freiheit Fine, I'll create a team and make it clear that it's unofficial for now, but if we get enough support, I would still like to make it official. It would be nice to both "have fun and ride bikes" and also strengthen the community. :)
