Willeke: I found this for $5500 NZ or about 3000 euro.

the rider is 87

New bike perhaps? Less likely to break the frame by overextending the seatpost....

@Criggie A tad on the high side but I have seen them offered for that price here as well. And as they are rare the seller can ask.
At 87 he is a bit older than Pé Komen who rides a Quest and posts a blog about it.
As long as you can get in and out age is no restriction.

true - and electric assist means age is no blocker to speed, either :)

Electric assists makes a lot of sense for hills in VM.
A regular e-bike with Rohloff will be not that much cheaper. That's quite a bargain.
What I don't understand. Why spend a lot of money to get a Bafang motor in instead of a straight swap of a Bosch?
09:15
I do not know why but Bafang motors are the usual thing in most VM.
price? Bosch is an expensive brand, bafang less-so

@gschenk yeah, if I’d ever get a VM I’d probably get one with electric assist

@Criggie a Bafang is perhaps 200€$£ cheaper. Rebuilding from a Bosch to a Bafang must be a lot of work. Bosch motors are highly integrated and Bafang doesn't seem to have something that works as a drop in solution.
